Trimming the roots is very helpful, keeps them from using as much water and they don't get tangled up. Just leave at least 1/3 of the root system. I learned this from an Aerogarden group I am in.
@Garden4Goodies Do you still use the rise garden? I was looking at it but I came across some bad reviews from people who have had it more than a few months. Various components going out with no help from the company etc. What do you think?
I don’t know what Rise advises, but you should be doing weekly maintenance to keep your roots from getting out of control like that. I trim about 1/3 of roots in most of my systems every week. You are going to ruin your equipment allowing them to go crazy like that.
