Ash makes so much sense. I think a lot of youngsters either don’t know any better or don’t give much credit to the previous era bc they think it’s an inferior era. They also choosing their goat with their heart and not based on pure empirical data. The athletes are basically the same athletically with the new Gen being a little more athletic, but the huge part of that is modern training, diet, and the biggest thing is mentality. Dudes back in the day had mad hops, but bc there wasn’t the internet that made certain dunks and moves go viral dudes could only learn from what they see. Imagine back in the day trying to learn the “shammgod” you have to try and see either first hand or on tape. But now these guys can google it and watch the breakdown of the move and then watch variations of it.
Jordan actually had input to the design of the shoes. Nike would have never took off without Jordan period. PERIOD.

This argument is so flawed, first of all how can you say Mj is the goat but you haven’t watched film of Mj and use any stats to justify why. Using outside factors to say someone is a goat is unnecessary just focus on what they did on the court. Championships are a team accomplishment so are we using them to rank a player individually. Accolades don’t matter when ranking players because they’re subjective and there narrative based and opinion based. I think Jordan is the goat over Lebron slightly but the argument is used is flawed.

So my message to Ash is I think the lines of what qualifies you as the GOAT are blurred. I think if people calculate based off of accolades and decoration the MJ is the GOAT to most, but the way they look at Bron might not be in that way. For example as a player, I look at Brons attributes and marvel at what he is able to do, whether that be mentally, physically, or whatever... players notice these things and can see what has been done regardless of the success to follow. Back in the 90's the competition just wasn't the same as it is now (GSW with KD for example 👀🤣🤦🏾♂). Players, teams, and the league is just better now top to bottom so it is simply going to be harder to win a 3 peat, I don't think that should be taken away from Bron because he didn't win. Like I said, if it's decoration then yes, it's not a contest, but I think the GOAT debate should be more than that.
Some/ I believe that if Bron played in Mike's era he would have had similar/ more success but not the other way around based on his stature and skillset, I could be wrong but that's still an opinion that I think a lot of people hold. I'm trying to keep a firm line between the 'what if's. What I am trying to say is that when people choose their GOAT they may be sizing them up as a basketball player rather than just accomplishments, kinda like the Shaq argument, he wasn't nearly as successful as some of the other great C's but we know no one could handle him (probably not the best example because Shaq didn't have the longevity but I'm sure you get what I mean, player for player over the course of a career).

I don’t like the lazy argument of saying 6 championships and 2 3 peats. That’s a lazy argument because if we are talking about individual players and individual greatness don’t bring up team success. Also if we are talking about team success shouldn’t that favor Lebron because he has always made everyone around him better. Lebron is the better all around player and can do more on a basketball court. Lebron has won championships with 3 different franchises which is very hard to do harder than staying with one team and winning imo.
