i like the bottom turn around the shortboarder paddling out. although looks minor, surprised the spice model can make that critical adjustment look easy. nicely done.
Well done Starboard! This is a welcome edition but now I am torn between a Spice 8'2" or a 8'7" pro to compliment my amazing Starboard 10x29 longboard! The longboard has blown me away with the performance on the wave and is remarkably stable for only 29 wide. With the stock thruster setup it bottom turns and cutbacks like a shortboard but with much more glide and ability to surf it from a variety of positions and even walk the nose!
Have had a spice for 4 weeks and previously had a 2021 pro, Spice wins hands down unless you are a pro level rider!!! Have been sup surfing about 5 years all different boards and sizes, had my best wave ever on my second surf on the Spice.
@@thirtytwosixteen Thanks for sharing Ian. What size are you on and what are your stats just for reference? I'm 185cm and 86kg, and 90% sure I should go 8'2" Spice
Your line of surfboards has me the most interested of any manufacturer. I'd like to explore SUPs in general but I'd also the availability to paddle prone into waves and paddle prone for exercise. The board that has me the most interested is the 9'0' x 26" / 95L. But with a width of 26", I don't know if I can paddle it comfortably. I need to find a way to try one out or speak to someone who has a similar interest in using it in the same way.
I'd need to try it to make sure. I have a lot of flat water racing experience in K1, K2, C1 and C2. Plus I'm always up for a challenge. I'd like to comfortably paddle prone, so not sure if it is doable at 26". At that width though you wouldn't be able to stop moving while standing up. But first I need to see if I can even get moving like you said, in surf at that. Choppy Washington and Oregon surf would be the challenge.
@@marianogarcia4156 The stability entirely depends on both your skill level and weight. A 130lb person has significantly more buoyancy than a 180lb person.
The Spice has a much smoother ride and flow compared to the Hyper Nut which is short and slashy. The Spice loves to go on rail. The bevelled rail makes it very easy to roll the board onto rail. The Spice with its longer and more narrower outline will be faster to set up for manoeuvres. The more pulled in tail gives more drive and hold off the bottom. While the Hyper Nut being so compact is all about slashy looser turns with more release. The Hyper Nut is very manoeuvrable from the short length and responds well to flatter turning. Hyper Nut stability vs same volume Spice will have similar float but they will feel different as the volume distribution is different. Hyper Nut has a much flatter rocker and wider compact area, while the Spice has much more progressive rocker and is both more narrow and thinner nose and tail. ~ Ollie O'Reilly
Stability - the Spice will feel more stable initially from the fuller nose outline, while the Pro has a more pulled in nose and tail. Manoeuvrability - the Pro will have less swing weight through turns again due to the narrower nose and has faster speeds. The Spice has very sensitive rai to rail turning from the bevel rail and is incredibly smooth. The narrower tail of the Pro will have more response and hold more in bigger surf. The Spice has that response from the tail when you step back on the kicker pad, yet has good control at the front fins for turning too, ideal for both intermediate and advanced style of riding. The Spice also feel like narrower boards than they are due to the bevelled/ pinched rail. In summary; the Pro is less stable, has less swing weight, and suited for more advanced riding. The Spice is more stable and forgiving, has incredible flow and smoothness, and is equipped for both advanced and intermediate styles. ~ Ollie O'Reilly

I'm in the same height/weight range and my "gut" says 8'2" as well.

Forget it I tried 26"W and it's not stable 28" or 29" It is much better

How would this board compare to a Hyper Nut?
