While i totally agree that the technical standard has digressed.. I'm shocked by how many negative comments there are on this performance. This is the problem with why opera seems unaccessible for most. The attitudes and know-it-alls make it appear that way. Yes things have changed and I wish the golden era of technique was still the baseline standard, but there is still beautiful singing happening and artists are trying their best while accommodating to a completely different lifestyle that wasn't even possible 100 years ago (traveling constantly, meeting the demands of the stage and the theater screen, being more versatile in acting, etc.). You have to weigh all of these tough factors into what a career takes before harping on the fact that someones vibrato may sound a little wobbly... We should all be a little more kind to the people who are taking the risk to expose themselves in order to communicate beautiful music and story telling.

Aaron Cooker You are absolutely right! There are many fine singers today, and I’m happy to pay good money to see them in the theater. Angela Meade is one of them. If you go to any opera clip on UA-cam, you’ll often find losers who live only for the past. And even worse, the Callas-worshippers who are suffering from cult psychosis. If Callas farted, they’d say it’s the most musical artistic fart they’ve ever heard!

@@wotan10950 I couldn't agree with you more, I got the opera bug at the age of 16 and I'm 25 now. I love some of the singers of the past but I also love the singers of today such as mead, dessay, damrau, netrebko and so on. I hate looking at klips on youtube and seeing all these nasty comments from people who seem to think that opera is ment to be kept in the past and I'm sorry but I'm not a big fan ofCallass either. Hailey Hoopes It’s always great see new opera fans. I hated opera till I went to college and accidentally saw a performance. I enjoy many of today’s singers very much. As you said, I don’t understand the Callas worship. I think she was awful, and the same people who genuflect would laugh and boo her off the stage if she made her debut now.

Hailey Hoopes I don’t think your enjoyment is strange at all. One of my most amazing memories is attending the Met to see La Boheme. At the end of the performance, I heard a soft bark near me. It turns out that a blind lady attended the performance with her Seeing Eye Dog, a German Shepherd. He sat silent under her seat during the entire show.

Too bad sound engineers don’t know how to mic and record performances nowadays. The singers from Lincoln Center NEVER sound the same on these recordings as they do in the theatre and it does them and the art from a HUGE disservice. Posting performances which misrepresent the artists vocal ability and actual sound in the hall makes me sad for great voices like Ms. Meade, who deserves a better quality recording of her work.

shameful.. she bottoms out in the lower register.. its like a splat! so many singers just ignoring the beauty of a complete vocal line!! way too much weight in the sound... its hindering her spin and her vibrato is uneven because of it. met worthy? i think not.. unfortunately, I haven't heard too many who are.

She is WOBBLING from PUSHING the VOICE to acquire a LARGER sound, the DOWNFALL of all singers.

MrSkylark1 Absolutely no wobble! But she's got a vibrato which not everybody likes. On some recordings it can sound almost rabbit like but not always. Her coloratura and upper extension is sometimes just fabulous!

Dragan Vidic that is called a wobble my friend. If her voice was not constricted she would have normal/good vibrato

There is wrong balance in her voice, making it too sharp too much through the nasal space/mask.. Rendering low notes inaudible, must say the only note that is endurable is the first note, which lies around the middle voice and the only note that sounds balanced.
Too much on the face, not enough support from the body. Terrible...

Horrible singing, lack of all fundamentals of a good voice, like squillo, appogio, chiaroscuro, chest voice, open throat and I can continue... Shame how these modern singers have destroyed the long tradition of amazing operatic voices. Try listen this aria with Callas, Tebaldi, Caballe, Souliotis, and so on
