Yeah a lot of Nightwish fans are also Epica fans and vise versa .. For a heavy song you gotta check out Kingdom of Heaven (live version)… It kicks ass 🤟🏻
I would say more Epicans are also fans of NW, but not so many NW fans are fans of Epica simply because it's too heavy for them, according to their own words. There is a large number of NW fans who are not really metalheads.
Not suprising at all really, not only is Epica female fronted, but NW's "Oceanborn" is what made Simone switch to classical vocal training.. (she had already started on the more "pop-ish" route, but was awestruck by Tarja's voice). But Kyle is right, it's mostly Epica fans who are also big NW fans.. numbers the other way around are smaller. Epica is after all way harder than NW (who only have a couple songs really that are close to Epica's heaviness)
Epica is 🔥🔥🔥 They have dozens of songs in this level or higher. In terms of ‘heaviness’ it’s quite average in their standards but they’re very diverse from touching ballads to epic progressive masterpieces and all in between. Some examples for the above - Epica - Design Your Universe live (full orchestra and choir on stage) Epica - Unleashed live (full orchestra and choir on stage) Epica - Universal Death Squad Epica - Rivers Epica - The Holographic Principle
"Epicans" is the word you are looking for ;) And yes as others have said you should do the Retrospect show, that's a one time show with real live orchestra and choir, containing most of their best stuff from the first 10 years. Otherwise yeah, they use backing tracks.
Watch anything from retrospect, a show with an orchestra on stage. Unleashed, design your universe or mosted viewed “sancta terra” featuring Floor from Nightwish. From the new album anything is great, Kingdom of Heaven III is a masterpiece (lyric video). And after Epica the next suggestion should probably be Ayreon (start with the day that the world breaks down)!
Ya the person that just said "Essence of Silence next" was me knowing you would love the Heavy!! Also did you notice that 7 string you pointed out was a Les Paul? I've not seen another anywhere!! Pretty cool 😎 Keep doing down this rabbit hole....you won't be disappointed!!

Epica does use backing tracks but if you want to see Epica with a REAL orchestra on stage, check out the Retrospect show. If you want harder, check out MaYaN, it’s Epica‘s drummer and guitarist / growler second band. That’s even heavier and they got 5 singers. Plus they are the nicest people.
The backtrack is only to keep the costs down. You can see Epica with a full orchestra in all 10th aniversary retrospect live music videos. You won't regret listening...
🤔 Epica is Dutch as is Floor Jansen from Nightwish. The singer guitar player is Mark Jansen no relation of Floor but they were both in After Forever. The Female singer in Simone Simons a friend of Floor. Harder songs consign to oblivion live from the Zenith and Kingdom of heaven live in Mexico city...

They are from Netherlands and they were formed in 2002 by the ex- cofounder of After Forever (and first Floor Jansen band) Mark Jansen (not related) who is the Rythmic guitarrist and growling vocalist. The members are: Simone Simons (the main vocalist), Coen Janssen (keyboard), Isaac Delahaye (lead guitar) , Arien van Weseenbeek (drums) and Rob van der Loo (bass). They record with an orchestra and a choir for their albums, and they have 8 studio albums, the most recent is called Omega from this year. They are considered as a Progressive Symphonic metal band with death and black metal influences as you can see.
You can check out some tracks of the retrospect concert. Even the orchestral and choir stuff is live on that one. You can try Design Your Universe or if you want something more heavy I can recommend Semblance Of Liberty (dont know if there's a hq live video)
Yeah, they have the same heaviness now anyway since Annette anyway having actual metal trained singers changed their sound to be heavier earlier albums not as heavy close but a small difference more harsh vocal as well. Mark, Floor, and Simone all are friends and have worked together on other projects as well. Ayreon is a Metal Opera Group that uses big metal singers to make epic storytelling metal. List of artists that worked with Arjen Lucassen Hansi Kursch from Blind Guardian, Tobias Sammet from Avantasia, Floor Jansen from Star One, After Forever, Nightwish yeah floor is isnae she never stops ever. Hey Carlos, Epica is as you say, like Nightwish - the next song will be the best till the next. Floor (NW) and Mark used to be in the same band called After Forever (you should check that band too - with a very young Floor) - Anyway, guess who's the lucky bastard that will see Nightwish, Epica, Blind Guardian (check them out too) Symphony X, Sabaton, w.m. next year (if covid permit) at Hellfest in France!?
@@CarlosWadeMusic I think you Will love Abyss of Time! And you must check more stuff of Nightwish with Tarja, there are quite a few very heavy songs of that era 😉
Carlos: "I wonder if this is their heaviest song." Me, an Epican: 'hysteric laughter' Well, no, man, it's not. You might want to have a listen to "Consign to Oblivion" for example, live at Zenith, Paris, at best. Edit: I just saw, you already did that xD My bad, but that doesn't stop me from havin g a look at that, too.
Epica has deemed their fans as "Epican's." ;). Epica is a symphonic metal band from the Netherlands composed of: Isaac-(main guitar), Rob-(bass), Coen- (Keyboards), Arien- (drums), Mark- (Grunts, guitar and founder of the band) and Simone (vocals). Apart from Nightwish, Epica carries a lot of death and doom metal influences through their trajectory but like Nightwish they compose scores that permeate through their records along side vocal choirs that are part of their signature sound since their inception. I feel that both are very different aside from those similarities. Also, they can't bring a full orchestra and choir on the road on every tour, so there are backing tracks to support these elements on live performances.
Any song would do, next could be something from the Retrospect anniversary concert. New songs are good as-well, no live recordings yet, beautiful video clips.

Simone often refers to 'us' as their 'Epicans'. I think their heaviest song is 'Kingdom of Heaven'. It's (in my opinion) one of their all-time master pieces. Check out this version: ua-cam.com/video/PF56D9mrlck/v-deo.html It's a fan video, but I like it better than the official ones. (which are not live) I hope Epica release the video of the version they did on their 'Omega alive' stream at some point. Their latest album 'Omega' is great too.
In reply to your rant about people not standing - only those in the balcony are seated - all in front of the band are standing. Is that alright with you ?
I mean it’s cool with me. I’m just saying, I don’t know how you can sit after a performance like that. The energy was insane through a computer screen so I could only imagine the energy in the room. But I appreciate you checking in with me 🤣 lol jk.

Carlos (you as a guitar man), I'm still hoping you can find the time to react to this TOP LINEUP OF MANY MUSICAL INTRUMENTS/SINGERS: The Source is the 9th studio album from *AYREON* , a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen (Ahr-Yun) Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. *_”The Day That The World Breaks Down”_* is a song that features all 11 (quite well known) main guest singers (you’ll be surprised) and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instruments are used and by which standards.
Btw. This creative original clip is 13 min. long and I think you won’t regret it !!

AND >>>>>>>>
If you want to see an insane crowd which is interacting with the band. Watch the German band *BLIND GUARDIAN* live at Wacken 2016 with *_”The Bard’s Song & Valhalla”_* : ua-cam.com/video/i-IcX_bccFc/v-deo.html
And Epica camee from the Netherland floor and Simone came from.the Netherland s
So.the singer from NIGHTWISH FLOOR JANSEN AND THE AINGER FROM EPICA SIMONE SIMONS ARE BEST FRENDS
The growling dude (Mark Jansen) has another band, MaYaN. A heavier version of Epica.
