Shows that the quality of Johnny's voice only gets better. Always a class act. Thanks for the excellent perfomance. It is great to view Johnny singing as always fantastically
As always, Johnny Mathis is guarantee of excellence. It's wonderful, that combination of a beautiful poem in Johnny's voice. Thank you, 19rebel57, for this treasure.
I love this song and CD- Johnny is so singular in his ability to tell a story through his phrasing and delicate handling of the music and lyrics. thanks again for sharing this one:)
I love this song, I love the words in it, I love the soft accompaniement, I love this voice and I LOVE Johnny Mathis. Thank you for this melliflurous sharing Maria. From Norway: Berit
Johnny was the 'something new in my life' years ago, and he always will be. No-one will ever match his voice, looks or personality. Thanks 19rebel57 for posting this video.
Maria, I'm sure I've commented on this before but watching it today, I guess I just felt like commenting again. This IS Johnny Mathis' warmth coming through so beautifully in this song. I'm sure everyone who ever met him, felt this warmth. Thanks for this one. Thanks for all of them. Angela
"Dreams, like everyone I have a few in my life . . . Who knew this one would come true in my life . . ." I thank the Universe for bringing you in my life.
I just saw Johnny Mathis last night in San Antonio...............the had the same guitarist and pianist with him. (Maybe the same drummer.) They all did an amazing job. Johnny still has a strong, clear job even though he is almost eighty.
Thank you so much for the video, this was a new song for me and I was very excited that I had an opportunity to listen to this lovely song by my very favorite artist. He was a bit before my time but his music is timeless...........................
@@MrJoeFlorida well I am a very huge fan of Johnny Mathis as I began to see him in concert by the age of 25. Enjoying his type of music in the '70s and '80s was very uncommon for a 25 year old young girl to go see Johnny Mathis Live and not the Grateful Dead or led Zeppelin. However his voice captivated me and I had to see him live in order to believe that he really had this amazing gift to sing 😍. So I got tickets for radio City and I took one of my friends with me and he was amazing. I can still remember how I felt that night as he sang🎀 I felt as he was almost singing just to me💖❤️💖 I just want to ask you one question, do you have any musical talent? Being that your father went so far as performing on stage with Johnny Mathis I would assume that you got some musical talent as well? Well either way the most important thing is that your dad did get to play the trumpet for Johnny Mathis🌹 and that to me is one big accomplishment. Again thank you for your great story 🌹☘️🌹A beloved fan of Johnny Mathis
I disagree...Johnny's voice caresses while evoking very deep passion & emotion, and he pronounces the song lyrics very clearly throughout...and it should be noted that Johnny probably 'toned the song down' being that he was singing it on a 'DAYTIME' show; while Stephen Bishop has a very lovely voice, there were times when his pronounciation wasn't too clear or smooth, and when he hit the high notes it was somewhat of a 'shrill' sound. However, overall, I liked his version also.
very poignant song wonder if there was something new in his life, sung with so much feeling , he almost cried I liked the way that he thanked Gil at the end.
Conversely, your individual opinion is subjective, to which you are entitled, as everyone has one. However, suffice it to say that this melody is NOT jazz by any stretch of the imagination. Interesting that you continue to listen to this very beautiful intense version. ENJOY!
In response to Aggravatalence- You are a clown! Your preference for SB's version makes it a "fact" that it's better? How asinine!!! I appreciate Stephen Bishop's writing, and I find his music thoughtful and feeling, and it is reflected in his singing. But he should feel honored to even be mentioned in the same article as Johnny Mathis. And your assertion that the original is always best is ridiculous. To Stephen Bishop's defense, however, he has nothing to be ashamed of as Johnny Mathis has improved on countless originals as he clearly does here. And this thing you go on referring to Mr. Mathis' versions as "jazzy!" WTF?!
Simply Immaculate, every word, gesture, expression. If ever there was perfection this is it.
What a delight, all the songs you play bring us your fans an immense pleasure in listening to them. thank you very much

My Dad used to tour with Johnny in the 70's and 80's. He played lead trumpet. He thought Johnny was a great singer.

Has anybody heard the version of this by Robert Habermann? It is really good, just voice and piano,a tough ask but he pulls it off.
Well, well...
