Y'all we are truely blessed to have a musician like Todd Snider out there keeping the values of the old school singer/sound writers. I worry that in the near future we are gonna lose those values and $ will reign supreme throughout the airwaves.
Todd Snider it the type of songwriter that after you hear his stuff you think, "Wow, he's awesome, but I totally could have written that... and I really wish I did." Then later, when you grab your guitar to try, it becomes rapidly apparent how good he is and how much you really suck. "...well Slash was just f*ckin wearin 'em." Brilliant.
A lot of people did the talking blues back in the day. Listen to the song Talking Union by Pete Seeger. Pete even said Woody was the one that taught everybody how to do it. Woody would be proud that Todd is carrying on the tradition! This video is awesome.
beautifully delivered storytelling, in the tradition of jerry jeff walker & those before & after him. great to know the kids are carrying on in the family tradition *wink*
I haven't been to a Todd Snider show in forever, but he never fails to give a great story or several during a performance. the Moondog tribute show he did in Memphis at Newby's was fantastic!
Keep going Todd! And refuse to go the Kennedy Center to get your award from the President! Or your "lifetime achievement" award. You are incredibly iconic so go for it! You're historic!!
harley9967 I didn't realize he was belittling Slash for being in a bar at 9AM. As far as I could tell, he didn't mention the time. He was giving what is known as an anecdote. Wouldn't you think it strange to see a guy dressed up like that in a bar?
'Sirius' jocks at 'outlaw country' need to air this guy - his version of margaritaville kicks ass - find it here - play it loud and you will agree - thanks for posting
@boulderjames This song is tribute to Bob Dylan's "Talkin' New York" (2nd track, Dylan's eponymous first album), where he talks about moving to NYC to when folk singers were the thing.
It's called Blues folks. It's a framework. You set up the frame that tons of artists have used before, you pick up the same colors of paint that are already there and you make your own picture. Before anyone has the nerve to call this "theft", go find a compilation called "The Blues Roots of Led Zeppelin" and give it a spin. THAT was theft. THIS is homage.
True. There's a framework. But then you need soul..integrity...heart...connection. Like...Democrats auction themselves to the highest bidder and ...THEN THERE came BERNIE.
@boulderjames The theme from The Beverly Hillbillies uses the same format too. It's Americana brother! Just like 12 bar blues...all the same but what differentiates it is the lyrics & the "noodling" within the framework.
Knew the Dylan song, looking up the knife lyric, however, I only found another Dylan song (Talkin' New York Blues), but that only references Woody's song "Pretty Boy Floyd". Can you point me to the Woody song that has the lyric about the fork and knive?
I love the story. I just think it's so cool that he sings from his experiences life and his stories are just so original and so funny. I think that's what music is about it tells a story about people's feelings emotions things that they experience in their life for them to express it power music love it
I love Todd. My friend Puff LG's me to this comedian well I called him an old-fashioned storyteller and I have to tell you I enjoy him thoroughly this is one of my favorite stories he tells women with no underwear and Slash take it easy
Todd knows Jerry Jeff Walker, so it's not a coincidence. Check out John Prine's 'Jesus, the missing years' for a similarity as well (Rome... Italy that is.... etc). But Todd's version is fantastic too, and certainly Todd's credentials as a songwriter are unassailable. I like all of those songs, and I like this one especially. And thanks for tipping me off to Ramblin Scramblin. I like that one too!
talking blues...its on old song form, probably older than the twelve-bar blues. it really sucks when people in the audience try to sing along, as it effs up the rhythm.

Wow... that's taken it all the way back home♡.

I am an old timer and a I appriciate the props to Z immerman and Woodrow Wilson Guthrie...Take it easy!
this guy is AWESOME!
Haha.. Slash is my idol and i love how my 3rd favorite musician made reference to him
"well slash was just f*ckin wearing 'em." lol...love that line.
He reminds me of Mitch Hedberg to music.
Wait.... Wow. I'm hearing it now.
Hahahaaha! Exactly!!!!
My friend that's my class of people we are know as hippies lol I guess
You’re not alone. He totally reminds me of Mitch Hedberg
That’s crazy, I sent a friend a video of him yesterday and told him the same thing. Mitch all the way. Love it
beautifully delivered storytelling, in the tradition of jerry jeff walker & those before & after him. great to know the kids are carrying on in the family tradition *wink*

I really like Todd Snider.
I really like Dr. Hook.
If Todd was 30 years younger, he would've been part of the Medicine Show.
Shel Silverstein ;)
Todd is a modern day Arlo
More appropriately, Arlo's dad - Woody Guthrie.
I wish I could get a CD with this story on it! It pretty much rocks.
This guy is truly a genius...
Dylan stole from and built on Guthrie, and now Todd is doing the same. Total folk tradition and beautiful.
One of few genres that encourages building off the past to preserve it with a modern twist for the next gen .
Impersonation is the greatest form of flattery
Take it easy man ....lol...gotta love Todd
Keep going Todd! And refuse to go the Kennedy Center to get your award from the President! Or your "lifetime achievement" award. You are incredibly iconic so go for it! You're historic!!
like when the sex pistols told the rock and roll hall of fame to get stuffed. punk/folk
Brilliant.

I kinda don't think harley understands the point of the song. Perhaps Todd Snider is not for him.

Great story. Take it easy man.
How about the Epi J-200... what do you think of it?

Todd ITS TROG! I'M RIGHT HERE!
Ifeel I've short changed my self by not ever knowing this guys stuff he is ok
His live album “near truths and hotel rooms” is where a lot of his best work is featured. Give it a listen you’ll not be disappointed
I hope Slash was seen this. Not like I know him, but i think he would laugh.
@boulderjames The theme from The Beverly Hillbillies uses the same format too. It's Americana brother! Just like 12 bar blues...all the same but what differentiates it is the lyrics & the "noodling" within the framework.
LOVE Bev Hillbillies. Funny show Man.
Hey hey, my my
Knew the Dylan song, looking up the knife lyric, however, I only found another Dylan song (Talkin' New York Blues), but that only references Woody's song "Pretty Boy Floyd". Can you point me to the Woody song that has the lyric about the fork and knive?
"They're called Guns and Roses, I know one of them."
This is good shit
Todd is so Funny!
I so love how he throws the Woody Guthrie reference in at the end..... This machine kills facists!
I love the story. I just think it's so cool that he sings from his experiences life and his stories are just so original and so funny. Hi todd
take it easy man
So, I totally did
@@brianbolding8661 Still am.
@1keickhoff that pretty much sums up my feelings on todd snider.
Jesus, it's called Talkin' Blues, there's only about 400,000,000 songs in the same format in the history of folk music.
Todd knows Jerry Jeff Walker, so it's not a coincidence. Check out John Prine's 'Jesus, the missing years' for a similarity as well (Rome... Italy that is.... etc). Best
@waltkdub Very True, Talkin' World War 3 Blues!
hey - now thats some funny shit -
talking blues...its on old song form, probably older than the twelve-bar blues. it really sucks when people in the audience try to sing along, as it effs up the rhythm.
and it would get awkward..
77 the words down but if I hadn't made up of words that they I wouldn't have gotten to do about half the shit I've got to do in my life
This generation's WOODY GUTHRIE!! Hi Woody! Glad you reincarnated!!
Corb lund get a shout out or no for the rip off?
this song predates corbs by about a decade. and talking blues is a much repeated song form. look it up.
I really like Todd Snider.
I really like Dr. Hook.
If Todd was 30 years younger, he would've been part of the Medicine Show.
