thanks for the explanation! very easy 😊 just put a deposit on what i thought was just a flat before i viewed it, very surprised to see maisonette stairs to the bedroom lol!
A maisonette literally means (from the French) a small house. That means it must have at least two storeys. A flat is on one floor, a maisonette is on two floors (rarely more). That is the defining difference between the two. Maisonettes do have their own entrance but a flat with its own entrance does not make a maisonette. It's still just a flat. The fact that both maisonettes and flats can have their own dedicated entrances means 'own-entrance' cannot be a defining characteristic of a maisonette. It's simple logic. I grew up in a council maisonette many decades ago - it had two floors and was in a block of other maisonettes, each also having two floors. Those maisonettes were situated both adjacent to and above each other. In the US, they call a maisonette a duplex (from the Latin for TWO-fold) and a flat is called an apartment. Shocking ignorance of facts and where language comes from. Need to do better if you are selling people their most important financial asset....
Love maisonettes because it's just feels like a small house and have a garden too for BBQ and relaxing either friends on the summer, They are more cosy than flats and cheaper than houses
My 95 year old grandad lives in a maisonette on the top floor even tho his maisonette is very fancy and you enter from the outside going up the stairs.

Maisonettes can have gardens. I have a ground floor maisonette and a large private back garden. A maisonette is the half way between a house and flat.
Thanks for that info!
He mentioned it. He said some might have gardens while others might not have just depends on the one you get

There are definitely pro's to having a maisonette over a traditional flat. All depends on personal needs and circumstances really!

How much would a 1 bed cost maisonette for rent pcm on average?
This would be very much dependant on the area, the condition of the maisonette and the current market
Why is there always a washer but not a dryer? Where is the dyer?
Many rented properties in the UK usually only come with a washing machine as standard.

Nice that the English language ( i like it) say Maison ans Mayson like Mason.
It's an interested play on words.

Thanks.
I'm sensing maisonettes are more spacious than a flat.
This is typically correct as maisonettes cover two floors in comparison to a one floor property like a flat!
Maisonette is actually a female version of a flat.
That's an interesting take on a maisonette!
