    Circular Pitch: This is s the sum of the tooth thickness and tooth space of a spur gear. In other words that a the stance between the pitch points of two adjacent gear teeth measured on the pitch circle.
    Pitch Point: This is is the point where the gear teeth make contact with each other as they rotate:
    Pressure Line: This line, which also called the line of action, is a straight line that is tangential to the base circle of both gears and passes through the pitch point. This line is normal to the tooth surface.
    Pressure Angle: This is the angle between the pressure line and the line tangential to the pitch circle at the pitch point.
    Backlash: This is the difference between the tooth thickness of one gear and the tooth space of the mating gear. Ideally the backlash is made zero meaning no backlash but in reality a backlash is given so as to o prevent jamming of the teeth due to thermal expansion and tooth design errors.
