i was a lonely kid who coped by watching the lotr appendices over and over again, so hearing sir richard taylor's voice just now was like running into a very old friend. thank you for that
The LOTR DVD set really did have the most incredible body of additional BTS content, multiple commentaries etc!! Added SO much to the all-around experience of the films, and as an artist it was incredibly inspiring to see the high level of artistry and commitment that went into creating all of the unique resources. I regularly go back and watch the appendices to the movies every couple of years, and still really enjoy them.
No matter what my one year old daughter is doing, whenever she hears the Friendship Onion music she stops what she’s doing and starts dancing. Thanks for making me and my daughter happy!
This is so fantastic to see! Well done, guys! I actually just booked Richard to come on my channel next month. I'll have to make sure to ask different questions. :)
Given the the turbulence of the times I'm glad makers are "getting the lead out" in different ways. I'm a fan of Adam Savage's Tested, so this got me triple excited cuz I fell in love with Dom and Billy the first time I heard the words "Dom is an idiot."😂

Absolutely! Richard described his story as "well worn", but actually, it's something I've never seen in any of the LOTR supporting material, or any media interviews...? Would LOVE to hear their journey from Tania's perspective too! They have such a remarkable personal & creative partnership - and I had no idea it started at such a young age! 😮

Boy, Richard is so awesome, I think he's a genius! I'm absolutely fascinated by his and Tanya's, and Weta's work in LOTR. Before even watching the "making of" movies. But when I did watch them, it brought so much more magic in the story, you know? It doesn't make sense whatsoever, but this is how I feel about their work. Stunning.
I absolutely agree! Seeing how much thoughtfulness, enthusiasm & creative skill went into the creation of the props, sets and SFX really elevated the films even further in my opinion! I'm not a huge fan of the goofier elements of Pete's film-making (Legolas shield-skateboarding & the whole of the Hobbit trilogy springs to mind 🙄) But I do adore the detailed cultures which the creative team developed for the LOTR trilogy, and the skill with which the physical manifestations of those cultures were realised. I hope all of the amazing permanent props they created have been saved as museum pieces, because they really are a remarkable part of NZ's history!
I loved Dom's impression of Sir Richard Taylor. You should start a segment where one of you does an impression of someone, and then the other person has to guess who it is!
What a special treat it is to watch you two each week! Plus the guests you bring on, getting to see the behind the scenes people again as well as the other actors is wonderful 💖 Thank you for doing your show and bringing us so much joy.
Yesssssss 😆 I absolutely agree, Sir Richard Taylor was one of my favorite parts of the LotR bts.. so so excited to listen to all of you, your insight, and the beautiful voices the three of you have. 🥰🥰🥰

I think we need more ‘behind the scenes’ members in this podcast, like Sir Richard, because they are underappreciated by the public, and their work is so amazing! Love the content guys.
I get it 100% when Richard said he knew he would be miserable if he didn't follow his passion. I have a normal "day job" but I *have* to sit down and write/work on my novels 2-3 hours every day. I'll probably never be published and most people think its a massive waste of time but I need to write for my mental health and that's all that matters. Kudos to Richard for actually turning it into a successful career, bet it took so much hard work to get where he is today.
If writing is what you love and you want to mak a career out of it, then I would say you should start believing that this is possible! If/when you've managed to write a novel, maybe you could start sending it to publishers to get your foot in the door
@@thomasroeder1 Oh I fully believe my stories are worth reading(my critique partners and beta readers do too!). Here's a simple question for Dom. On your IMDB it lists that you appear in The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies as part of the "Laketown Folk" Uncredited. Do you appear on screen in the movie at all?
You're so lucky!! I haven't yet been there, despite living in NZ (generally can't afford to travel alas). But I deeply enjoyed all the BTS and creatives' commentaries on the LOTR DVDs, and am so impressed by how Weta have developed into this juggernaut in the film industry, having started so small & in a small, far-away country 😄
I've watched the making of LOTR more than the movies at this point. Richard Taylor is one of the most inspirational persons I've ever seen/heard! So exciting to see him and hear about his life and work! Love the show guys
Love you bois, sometimes when I cant wait for new episodes I rewatch the old ones lol. Its fun doing it too, you guys keep getting more comfy and podcast is smoother by the day. Cheers
Excellent content as usual and it is very inspiring to hear Mr. Taylors story about how he discovered his skills to create imaginative spaces and creative stories. Same here, I live for my passion which is everything relating my fantasy world Edegard, and I hope, I am not alone with this passion.

I am living for Tuesdays now just so I can spend another hour with my favorite hobbits! Love you guys, please keep them coming! And incidentally, because of you two, I'm now playing LoL (but first became addicted to Teamfight Tactics on Riot). I forsee many deaths in my future.
I love Richard talking about the Triptych. It's so fascinating to hear about his inspiration and process. I'm a songwriter and I definitely find that some people don't think of creative jobs as an actual profession. People kind of wrinkle their noses at dinner parties when you're asked what you do for a living.
I can't imagine having Bosch as a bedroom wall decor!! 😆 Richard clearly has a very high tolerance for the macabre... You're right about the difficulties of creative professions, alas? 😢 Although people idolize the members of some fields such as acting or singing, I think even then they are mostly distracted by the glitz & glamour and rarely recognise the very real hard work that is entailed. I think part of the problem is that there's this deeply ingrained socioeconomic refusal to accurately recompense just how much time & skill really goes into artistic work of any kind...? I'm not even sure why this is a thing! It seems to be viewed as not "real" work, or something artists should be happy to do for love of creativity or desire for audience exposure? That then leads into the issue of creatives often having unstable job prospects and relatively poor pay, which makes a lot of parents & teachers discourage kids from pursuing such careers for fear they may not be able to economically survive. Creatives in many fields seem to be poorly unionized, & are often solo freelancers, so negotiating for better conditions and recompense remains difficult...
This podcast is brilliant. Binged every episode in a day and also watched "I don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore" (which was fantastic) after hearing about it on the podcast. So, a two for one deal if you will. Love it so much guys, please keep them coming.
Absolutely fascinating to hear about Richard & Tania's personal & professional journey - all the previous interviews I'd seen had just focused on their current work? Had no idea they'd been a team from such an early age! Or that potentially, barring the vagaries of fate, Richard could conceivably have ended up stuck as a construction worker or kids' TV creator... Would be awesome to hear the journey from Tania's perspective as well! Also, margarine sculpting?? 😂 OMG!
You guys can do a League of Legends charity game to get Sean Astin and Elijah Wood. It would be fun to see the hobbits working together! And if they have fun doing it maybe they will want to play more :)

😂 OMG!
Wonderful Video
You guys can do a League of Legends charity game to get Sean Astin and Elijah Wood. It would be fun to see the hobbits working together! And if they have fun doing it maybe they will want to play more :)
Love to weta! Excellent guest....thank heavens he played in mud. Where would our movies be?
