I am in the UK watching this while a storm rages outside, and it is the best thing. I love seeing the progress!
Same
Hopefully the sunshine here had you forgetting about the storm there for a bit!😅✌🏾
My sister built her house with straw bales. It is amazing how it keeps those 50+ mph winds out, and it is so quiet.
Exactly! We'll have the combination of hay bales and the thermal mass wall (the gabion wall)✌🏾
I thought for sure you were going to leave us hanging at the end! 😆 Very exciting video. Yay roof!
No way! I still want to keep a little mystery to each episode, but it's also fun to tease you guys!😅✌🏾
Awesome Catchment Zone on the rear of the building!!
It's definitely going to catch a lot of water! 😎✌🏾
When you put the plywood on your roof, you should stagger the joints on the roof, for a stronger roof deck, I'm not sure if you are putting a tin, sheet metal roof on your building.
I showed a little, but yes I'm staggering the plywood joints definitely! I'll show what we're doing with the roof soon!✌🏾
I shed a tear of accomplishment for you both as you put that board on the roof. Roof shout not far away now. 😊😊
Thank you, really appreciate the support. Big moves for sure!✌🏾
It’s going to look good. You all have made serious progress. Big Appreciation for your channel in Texas.
Thanks a lot! We are definitely getting excited to get inside.😊✌🏾
Brandon - fantastic work and thank BOTH of you for Sharing You Experiences!! Blessings!!
Much appreciated, glad you're enjoying the journey!🙏🏼✌🏾
You know it's getting serious when the noggins are going in! Lovely view from the top!
If it's not too late, I would leave as much overhang as possible, as it does a great job of protecting the walls from the elements.
Wishing you speedy progress and no complications!
Exactly! We're honestly not finished even! This is just part 1 of the build we're finishing!✌🏾
Aha, it was hey bales, though a special kind it seems. I had guessed tires thinking the Earth Ship inspiration lead to that, but the other guy's guess was pretty convincing to me too. He had just already made that guess. 😆
Looking good! I liked that speed up when cutting the wood. Having ADHD I felt like it was exactly my speed of taking all that work in as you did it.
Nice! I'll get more in depth next week on the hay! And thank you im always improving on the filming and editing too!😅✌🏾
I'm so excited for you both! What an amazing build😍
Thank you very much!✌🏾
This has been so amazing to watch!
What a beautiful build.
Thank you very much! Lots more to do!✌🏾
Your house is coming along nicely and super cool looking! Awesome work.
Thank you! Cheers!✌🏾
My insides are dancing the happy skippy dance. Wow, everything looks so good. You've both made so much progress. I can't believe you left us with a cliffhanger ending and I think you were even laughing about it. When the plywood went up, I was thinking yay shade, that would have come in handy during the summer. So much progress this winter. Looking forward to the next video.
Thank you so much! It's definitely getting super exciting! Now we'll at least be ready for next summer!✌🏾
Moving along so fast now, excited to see how the bales work as the final puzzle pieces to your walls. Great job guys 👍
Thanks! Definitely a lot of momentum right now and going forward!✌🏾
Must feel amazing having the roof up! Exciting times fam great work Brandon and Neka finnally some respite from the intense climate!. Quality rest = quality work. Keep it up fam were seeing the
light at the end of the tunnel and very excited for you! Wow such progress
For me the 1st sheet up was exilerating 😂 technically a roof over your heads once attached, love it. And your bails gna make things faster and easier than I was expecting. Exciting times, bravo. Looking forward to next week's update
Really appreciate it! Definitely exciting! ✌🏾
Totally same boat! Very motivating! Everything is picking up speed! Always appreciate your comments!✌🏾💚
great video thank you brother
Thank you very much!✌🏾
Amazing progress. Love the craftsmanship!!
Thank you! Between the rustic look and the more so conventional Roof, it's gonna have a really nice look to it! Super exciting!✌🏾
Yes my power station won't run my big freezer or circular saw -- you are grateful and it shows in your smile!
Very grateful for the power stations. They've definitely proven how useful they are!✌🏾
My best guess is because it is locally sourced or free/cheaper than straw bale
We'll get into it next episode! We're getting to some exciting stuff!😅✌🏾
The house is coming along nicely it's so close can't wait for the roof ✌️
Thank you and likewise! Home stretch!✌🏾
Nice not having a loud smelly generator disturbing your peaceful homestead 😎✌
We agree, that's for sure! 😎✌🏾
@@GrowTreeOrganics Are you going full solar house in the end, or are you also considering wind turbines and/or something else?
Well, my Honda 10i is very quiet, and you will hardly hear it.
@@Will_Forge wind has been considered and we'll do that eventually, but we get so much sun days here, we haven't had our batteries drain down really! More than enough solar and no moving parts. But we've got more concepts to go over as we build things up!✌🏾
@@GrowTreeOrganics Sounds like a solid choice!
"This must be just like living in paradise." -David Lee Roth
Nice!😅✌🏾
@@GrowTreeOrganics
that's what i was thinking, through the whole video!...Nice!
😅✌🏾
💙
💚🪨✌🏾
Looking Good,,, Nice view from the roof.. 👍
Thank you, I'm loving the view from up here too! 😅✌🏾
You folks are doing a fancy job. My only suggestion would be to build a couple sets of saw horses. Just to make your work easier and safer. You could also screw some plywood to one set and have a fairly stable platform to stand on. Just a thought. Keep up the good work. Peace ✌️
I've been on and off thinking about saw horses or making some, but you're right would be more helpful to have some! Appreciate that and your support!✌🏾
Gabion Wall-apini sounds like something Doctor Seuss would build for Willy Wonka lol. Looking good!
😂 I would imagine and can image that as well!😅✌🏾
I guess you can put up awnings in summer to keep the sun from turning the house into a furnace. It is critically important to ensure the outgassing of formaldehyde from the plywood can't get into the inside of the house. Formaldehyde exposure is the biggest single cause of cancer after tobacco.
Definitely appreciate that info, but We're not finished with the front either! This is just part 1 😅✌🏾
Funny! I was just watching this video while working - a Brandon birthday song - when I realized that your name is Brandon too. LOL!
I am curious how you will fill the gaps under the roof.
Regards.
Oh too funny! We'll be Doing insulation in those cavities!✌🏾
Cheers, do you plan for some triangular structures to take the cross loads? Could stiffen things up a lot... Otherwise a super nice project 😊
That's the plan! I'll show more in the next video!✌🏾
Looking good!
Thanks! Appreciate it!✌🏾
One of the best videos yet
Thank you very much!😅✌🏾
i would still be using a battery pack like yours but back then, they didn't have anything like it, they work great.
Yea I'm super impressed with those power stations. Definitely a good investment!✌🏾
@@GrowTreeOrganics may as well stick with a good thing, now might be a good time to get some wiring in your walls for electrical outlets, maybe you can upcycle some crappy old extension cords for free
@dirttdude you'll see why we won't be doing anything conventional like that soon!✌🏾
do you have a water tank and rain collection plans? even if its just grey water for the garden or washing up, a roof that size and a good set of gutters should collect a lot of water to store for the dry part of the year.
Yes plans for all the above!😅✌🏾
I am seriously thinking of building gabions because where I live WE GROW ROCKS
That's why we did them! We're in the same boat on that!😅✌🏾
@@GrowTreeOrganics There's a gravel pit just across the road and then the highway has a gravel pit 2 km up the road
@PR.Hobbit nice!✌🏾
My guess is that you've found local, unsprayed hay, rather than glyphosate-drenched wheat straw?
Three cheers for completing this fantastic step!!!!
Really appreciate it! Thank you!✌🏾
Thankyou 😊
Appreciate it! ✌🏾
I am curious if you plan to tie the roof to floor for hurricane protection.
Yea I'll be installing more hurricane ties and another hurricane tie option to hold down the roof! But we're also not finished, we still have another section to get to after this main portion!✌🏾
Rim board and braces are looking good!
Really appreciate it!✌🏾
The straw bales get stucco, as a stucco guy, it would be fun stuccoing something like that 😂
It definitely would be!😅✌🏾
My back hurts just watching you carry those plywood sheets...
Good thing I'm only doing this once!✌🏾😅
❤❤❤❤
💚💚✌🏾✌🏾😅
Will you need to be concerned about the bales molding in the long run?
I'll go over that in the next video!✌🏾
Sudan grass! Hmmm...perhaps to mix with mud & concrete instead of the cedar. Now I forget, were you using cedar shavings? Hmmm...I will stay tuned!
You definitely will have to stay tuned!😅✌🏾
@@JaniceMartin-fd8mr we definitely use cedar for my mud mix, it’s an awesome fiber that has proven to be superior to any other fiber(in my experiences) ✌🏾💜
Sudan grass because it grows like crazy in Yuma.
That's a plus!✌🏾
Breathable walls? That's the high jump, long jump, and hopscotch on this.
Multiple concepts incorporated into this and there's more in store!😅✌🏾
Does anyone look at this and think "those rocks look like great places for scorpions to nest"? 🦂
Only if you're looking at this as being finished. Just to mention, Everybody has bugs and spiders that come into their house. Has anyone went down into a basement before in a regular house?😅✌🏾
@GrowTreeOrganics hey just sayin' I think what you are doing is awesome. I live in Nicaragua and have had a couple run ins with those critters so am not a fan...
@MikeElPortonVerde no worries. I appreciate you looking out! And thanks for your support! We'll show later how we'll fill in the gaps in the baskets!✌🏾
Why? Why? Why Sudan grass? I need to know.
You'll have to wait!😅✌🏾
Now i have to wait a whole week you better give the answer 😂
You can bet on it!✌🏾😁
coper wire true bails helps rodens to keep out
There is work that will be done with the bales where we won’t have worry about rodents, as well as our cats do a good job ✌🏾💜
someone buy this man a bunch of clamps, make his life easier
Clamps for what?😅✌🏾
@@GrowTreeOrganics Holding boards to boards so you don't have to one-hand it on top of a ladder and drill with the other hand. Don't get me wrong you're clearly doing fine with what you got, but I find clamps make jobs easier for me
@preauxtip I see, totally understand that! I'll see if I can afford some soon! Appreciate the suggestion!✌🏾
How many acre is ur land?
10!✌🏾😁
Looking Great!
Thanks! Really appreciate your support! ✌🏾
