Absolutely love that you just got straight to the point instead of spending about twenty minutes yapping on about nothing relevant like a lot of people do. This is how a demo video should be made.
Thanks Brendan. I agree, no need for a back story.
@@jackpribek I would've loved to hear how glass/brass was invented. Kidding, no BS straight to the point. Keep it up.
Right to the point with good details on the products used and an amazing demostration, 10/10
Thank you!
Agreed. Thank you
Thanks for the straightforward side by sides of the braaaass slide, the steeeeel, glaaaaass, and moooonshine sliiiides! 😎
Thank you Todd.
Probably the best guitar-related demo I have ever seen 😂 I am so tired of all the videos where they talk for 20 minutes before they do the demo. Thanks man
Thank you Senzo.
To me the brass one sounded more resonant and 'sustain-y'. Thanks for the video!
Thank you!
Thank you for making this video! Much apreciated, i think this will help alot of people in their decision.
You played the different slides very consistently and i was able to hear the different charasteristics.
And this is how demo videos should be done. Thanks!
Thanks Ron
Here's my analysis on each of the slides's tones. The brass slide sounds smooth in the upper neck and has a nice ring in the bottom end. The steel slide sounds full, round, and warm. The glass slide sounds clean and treble-y, perfect for lead playing. And the ceramic slide sounds kind of gritty throughout the entire range of the neck.
I currently have a Fender Glass Slide 3 slide (Medium ring size, heavy wall thickness) and I have a Dunlop steel slide coming from Sweetwater very soon. I personally can't wait to try them all to see which ones I like.
Excellent
Straightforward and helpful. Lovely demo
Thank you
Thank you for creating a clear, to the point video, with great sound and consistency of what you played 💪 so rare on UA-cam
Thank you Arman!
Great video, thank you
Brilliant mate!!! Love it!
Thank you!
Great video. I like the smooth glass but I have dropped so many over the years that brass has become my choice.
Excellent demonstration
Thank you.
Nice demonstration. I used to favour a brass slide, until it got stolen at a gig. Never replaced it. I tend to use glass now, but only because it’s what I happen to have.
Thanks for checking it out. Since I made this clip I’ve been using the ceramic one. I’m not sure which one I would use, if by some weird happenstance, I had to play a gig.
Great demo and comparison as an acoustic and electric player I have decided on a brass steel slide since it would be the most versatile and the best for both play throughs
That moonshine slide got some soul in it !!
Thank you.
I've got to admit, I don't think there's a dime's worth of difference in the sound of any of them. But I've never had a ceramic one, it sounded pretty good here
Wow cause I heard a clear difference in all of em
Great demo Jimmy and nice playing I've tried them all over the years but have settled on glass especially for my acoustic playing,I personally find it smoother against the metal of the strings and less unwanted noise and a bit looser for vibrato but its like anything its just personal choice anyway thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching Trevor! You are right, it’s surely a personal choice.
Love the brass one the best for sure. Just ordered me a Fender chrome slide. I think I’ll be ordering the brass one as well. Thanks. Oh yeah great playing as well. Liked and subscribed. 👍
Thank you VectorX.
Thanks for demonstrating this on a Stratocaster and not flooding it with every size, just material. I just got my first slide today and was mostly thinking size and price because it's new territory for me. This convinced me that I want my next slide to be ceramic.
Thanks for checking it out John and have fun sliding.
@@jackpribek : It looks and sounds easier than it is!
Thanks for the comparison!
Brass - 0:16
Steel - 0:50
Glass - 1:25
Ceramic - 2:08
Thanks Jack👍👍 I use the chrome plated but after your video I think I should have 1 of each or at least a brass too. I liked the little extra friction .
Brass is cool. Especially if I find myself doing an acoustic delta derivative type thing, I will reach for the brass.
@@jackpribek I could see the extra friction working better on an acoustic and and the polished chrome being good for the electric. I wasn't really considering the ceramic but after I watched your video I watched someone use it on a national and it seems to have its place too. Thanks again Jack👍
@@folkenbluzer I find myself using the ceramic one most of the time recently. But, that’s here in the controlled environment of my little studio.
I like them all for various reasons, some feel better with other guitars of mine than others, I have quite an assortment myself..you pretty dang salty on that slide neighbor! Really enjoying your channel sir.
Thanks Aaron. I think that the feel is a big factor...probably even more so at a stage volume.
Back in 1990 I got a brass slide then when I bought this cassette tape lesson called Performance Notes of selected Led Zep tracks the guy said Page used a glass slide
great playin' man..
Thanks Buddy.
Brass sounds the best to my ears. I’m picking one up. Thanks bud
Your slide hat makes them all sound ever so much more slidey.
Yes yes...it's a tone hat.
Wow different tones with different slides nice teach! 😊
Very nice playing! Which one do you think is easiest to play?
I have found myself using the ceramic “Moonshine” slide most often. It seems like it does feel better.
Thanks for this mate. I got a short guitar slide, silly mistake, should have got a longer one! In your opinion in case I can't tell the best tone, the best slide for high gain and distortion?
My experience with high gain (and especially at stage volume) is that steel and brass are harder to control because they produce more sustain. So, I would use glass or ceramic.
It's hard to choose because I like them all xD Do you think it's "easer" to learn with some of them or it's just about sound preference? Thanks a lot for the demo Jack :)
Thank you. If you have thicker strings that are high off of the fretboard, a heavier slide, like the brass, would make it easier to learn with I think. If you use lighter strings-low action, then a lighter slide of glass or ceramic will help you find the needed touch.
@@jackpribek thanks a ton! Will possibly go glass then. Hugs from Spain :D
Always liked that bite of a steel slide but I much prefer the feel of a glass slide so that’s my go to (especially considering audience members couldn’t give two hoots 😂). I need to try out a ceramic at some point. Excellent demo.
Thank you Thaddeus.
@@jackpribek yes sir. You ever try pinky finger? I did a little and was a hot mess.
@@thaddeusfields4360 I did try it. The thinking was, if I use the pinky, I could fret with the other three fingers; even do some chord stuff. I found though that I didn’t have as much control over the slide and, for me, the trade off wasn’t worth it.
@@thaddeusfields4360 I haven’t played much slide lately but, I’ve been dipping my toes back in to the water. Here’s a thing I did recently: ua-cam.com/video/0B7avfX4_Vg/v-deo.html
No question, for that guitar sound I'll pick brass any day. Warmth and sustain is perfect.
Yeah it’s pretty sweet!
I make ceramics and used to play guitar a lot. I never learned the slide but was thinking of making a few. Is there any special specs that makes a slide better quality than another?
It just has to fit on the finger. There are different preferences: mainly the thickness of the wall.
Glass just has that more trebly glassy tone if you will lol if I was gigging i'd only use the brass or steel. Wouldn't take the chance of my slide breaking on me if I happened to fumble it
thnks mister for the video ! i got myself a brass, one told me that ceramic was a bit difficult to use, do you know why ? Thank you for the straighforward demo !
I don’t find ceramic difficult. Rock on.
@@jackpribek okay cool ! thanks, happy fretting ;D
I just ordered brass 224 dunlop
Excellent! Thanks for watching.
Great video, straight to the point,What size is good for the pinkie finger?I'm new to slides and in the verge of order one,my fingers has a normal size i believe, not too big and not that small.I'm between brass or steel.22x25x65mm for example it's ok?Medium is for the ring finger? Thanks and sorry for all the questions
Thanks for watching. You may need to try a couple to find what’s comfortable. It doesn’t necessarily have to fit snug.
@@jackpribek Thanks for the reply,Cool i can't wait to start my slide journey,I'll let you know what is the perfect slide for my finger.Take care and keep up the good work.Angelo from Athens Greece...
Hy Jack, how are u?I hope all good with you.I order the Dunlop 273 seamless glass. It fits to my finger like a glove i;m very happy with my 273,I play the guitar(classical, electric, acoustic) for a couple a years but it was up untill now to pick up a slide and have fun with it,never too late!My favorite slide players are Blind Willie Johnson,Lowell George(huge fan of Little Feat),Duane,Elmore James,Ry Cooder. If you have any reccomendations, you know local players something like that please let my know.Take care...
@@user-ok5jf1sn4g you named some great ones there. I listened a lot to Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter as well…one player that doesn’t get mentioned enough is Muddy Waters. Everyone talks about his singing but his slide playing displays raw emotion and furious power.
@@jackpribek When it comes to Rory it's getting personal, his music helped me through a very difficult situation, tomorrow it;s his his birthday by the way!!!J.Winter never clicked with me but i respect his music.Muddy is a Giant and you are wright no one talks about his guitar style, simple and straight to the point.Miles Davis was a big fan of him, there's so many great players out there their legacy is treasure.Always a pleasure talking to you.Music is our sanctuary.
Great video buddy, i found the brass and steel the most brigther and strong ones, the glass sounds like too soft for my taste. Just a matter of taste.
Thank you 🙏
OUTSTANDING VIDEO !!!
Thank you.
Nice video. What are you tuned to?
Thank you. Tuned to G.
Right on man. Thank you
My opinion.
1-Brass
2-Ceramic
3-glass
4-steel.
Well from my ears. I certainly noticed steel was higher pitch. Brass more low and sustain. Glass more short and medium. Ceramic has more mellow medium sound with some highs.
Well I need a change since steel sounds the worst out of all of them.
Very interesting!! I have a glass one but don’t ever use it lol 😂
Thanks for checking it out Kev!
@@jackpribek Always my brother!! 👊🏻😎
@@kevlynnmusic1401 you’re the best!
@@jackpribek 🤗🤗👊🏻😎
To my ear, the metal slides deliver much more zing. I like zing.
Will the glass break?
If dropped on a hard surface, yes.
Is your guitar in standard tuning in this video?
Yes
I’m using a glass one; now I know why I don’t sound like Jack White yet.
rocky mountain ceramic slides. Try one yall wont ever look back.
I preferrer the steel
Glass slides tend to break but sound better 😭 help
Started listening on cake 🍰. The other hippie day. youTube suggested this. 👍
Thanks for checking it out Thomas!
Bot, is locked. I got the message gypsy (grew up you lol)
Hawaiian music into that sound
Yes!
I bet $700 win. Ran second. Made $20 bets + got to $500. I bet $700 win again I ran second. (Jockeys kill me lol)
It's like drinking water
tuning for a newbie wannabe please?
This is standard tuning.
@@jackpribek oh well, thanks 🙂
@@lovecraftmusic8717 A great starting place would be E tuning (E,B,E,G#,B,E low to high).
@@DustoHak-bq3vz will try, thanks
