thank you for your very motivating content. I’m 70 years old and have created my own stills and video content for my farm and ranch sales company for 20 years. Before drones I had to hire a helicopter and take the door off to shoot video. At that time I shot video with the nikon D90. The first GoPro’s were a real help as well. I am not retiring and going to use my equipment to document the people who grow our food. I currently use Lumix GH5’s and a Lumix G9II along with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro. I have always known JUST enough about FCPX to get my videos created. I plan to watch more of your content and I know it will be helpful. You are like listening to my youngest daughter (granddaughter?) and i appreciate your calm and thoughtful approach. Thank you. Jim in Oregon😊
I still use FCP because I bought it 8 or 9 years ago and have received every software update since for free. In the software world that’s the best $300 investment I’ve made. The Option+T keyboard shortcut to apply a cross fade between clips is a fantastic time saver.

I gave up on Premiere two years ago because of the same issues with instability and just how slow it’s gotten. I personally use DaVinci Resolve and absolutely love it, but Final Cut is a great editor too, and the magnetic timeline is its best feature. I’d really love to see Resolve have a magnetic timeline. However, since I do some advanced compositing and effects I need Resolve. I know a lot of people will do advanced compositing in After Effects and import their renders into Final Cut. What I think would really put Final Cut on a competitive advantage is if they had tabbed workflows and would marry Motion and FCP into one app. In Resolve there’s an edit page, a page dedicated to compositing called Fusion, and a page dedicated to rendering called the deliver page. It’s all-in-one application so there’s no need for round-tripping. I know Final Cut has come a long way over the years and would be my next editor of choice if it weren’t for Resolve.
Recently found your channel through the DJI camera reviews, but this was just perfect timing as I'd been reconsidering my Premiere Pro subscription after a year. It's quite unnerving to see that the subscription for a year is almost as much as a FCP license. So, I'll likely trial it soon, thanks for that friendly nudge! I also love your video style and aesthetic so the fact that you can make GoPro footage look as good as you do with the tools you recommended is very inspiring. - Angel
Ah thank you 😊 And yeah, it’s well worth giving the trial a go as you get something like 90 days which gives you a really decent amount of time to figure out if you like it or not. CineMatch and FilmConvert Nitrate are awesome. It would take me twice as long to correct and grade footage without them, especially the GoPro footage because I really don’t like that over-saturated crispy look, but grading the Flat footage freehand is a bit of a nightmare without those plugins, so they’re a massive lifesaver.
Great video. So many things to love about FCP, media management and search tools, roles, stability, simple uncluttered UI especially on a laptop which gets out of your way and just lets you create, and so on but yes the best feature has always been the magnetic timeline. Makes editing so fast (as long as you have your clip connections set up properly). I seriously couldn't go back to a track based NLE again, especially one that crashes all the time.

Once Premiere started crashing on every project I did, I bit the bullet and started learning FCP and now I am so angry at myself for not using it back when I bought it. Would have saved me so many long hours of renders that crash and lost projects.

Hi Tamara, I have tried to use Adobe Premier Pro for a while now and I just get frustrated with some of the simplest of tasks, like importing clips onto the timeline. I have a MacBook Air M1 and have just downloaded Final Cut, as I expect as it's made by Apple, it will integrated seamlessly with my Mac. Watching this vid has finally convinced me to switch! When I started filmming and editing I had a very weaky notebook that was impossible to manage Premiere pro or other professional video editor. I found one that runs in my notebook, Filmora. I'm still using it. This video editor was created for amatures and begginers, but every update they include very professional stuff. Today is Filmora 12 and it's perfect for me, I can do professional video editing on it. It's very user frendly interface and runs smootly in my Macbook air m1. It deliver to much for a cheaper price.
Right now I am also really considering switching to Final Cut. The only thing that keeps me with Prpro is the automatic transcript for subtitles and the silent parts that can be cut out automatically since the last update which is a HUGE improvement. Is there something similar for Final Cut?
Any thoughts on Apple Motion versus After Effects? I made the switch from Premiere to Final Cut a few years ago, just as a hobbyist, and when I couldn't figure something out I always found great, free tutorials over the years, but I haven't been as lucky with Motion. I've always found really good info and tutorials on AE, and not to say Motion info isn't out there, but I guess it just doesn't have the user-base to be covered as much as AE.
Love your style :) your dreads look freshhhh Btw look up some shortcuts for final cut. If you press or hold P u can then move stuff around. And hold tilda key when deleting clips to turn off magnetic feature then. So I think once u learn it, it is great. And you will save money in the long run. Adobe is getting expensive once you look back and see how long you have been paying for their licenses
Tamara VERY COOL VIDEO! I use DaVinci Resolve 18, I sure I will transition eventually FCP since I am using IOS. Where did you get your hat i like it, I think it would cover my hair. Thanks very much!
Hey guys!! Great video Tamara! I’m new here and have subscribed too 👌🏼 - I’m buying the MacBook Air M1 2020 (on offer in uk for £800 and not heard a bad thing said about it … today actually (woah doesn’t time fly on UA-cam) I heard that Apple owns FCP - I’ll be honest here. I am a hobbyist drone pilot - looking to create cinematic videos and aerial photography and fed up with editing on free apps on my iPhone 13 Pro or old iPad 10.5” - CapCut (it’s ok and serves a purpose for home viewing) … but I’m hoping to get a website made, offer my drone skills, plus learn the MacBook, and Final Cut Pro - obviously I have to purchase that too so it won’t all be at once … how easy is it to add music? Colour grading? I think I’ll be ok around the MacBook with having iPhones since the 5 came out … does FCP have music to get me started before having to download epidemic sounds? I have lots to pay out for - MacBook, editing software, website etc etc - it’s going to be a steep learning curve. Thank you for the video Tamara - you’re great!! 😊 (any tips from anyone would be so useful please, tia) I have to admit, this may as well be French to me at the moment, but I hope I’ll get there 😊
Sorry, I missed this somehow. Thanks for subscribing! 😊 In terms of free music, UA-cam has a free music library that you can check out, but other than that, I don't really know of any. Audio Jungle used to do free music years ago, but I don't know if they still do.
Honestly this was super helpful in my decision to get FCP! I just graduated and no longer have access to my university's Adobe subscription and was debating for so long about which program would be more worth the money :)
@@TamaraGabrielUK Premiere was my go-to editing software for 2 years! Since your video, I've been working with FCP and it's definitely a learning curve but I am liking it quite a lot!
I started playing around with Resolve yesterday but I’ll stick with FCPX for now. Resolve has some cool features but I don’t have time to dive in and learn it all right now, plus I’m loving FCPX.
+1 on Davinci Resolve even the free version is very decent. Great video though and good to see you found software that works for you, that's the most important part.
Hi Tamara! Thanks for this brilliant video and comparison. I'm brand new to video editing, and I was wondering if you'd recommend any resources for absolute beginners? I need to know all the language and how to get started. After watching a few videos about which software to use, looks like FCP is the way to go! Thanks so much. :)
I’m glad you found it helpful. In terms of resources, UA-cam is the best place to start, there are a lot of videos for beginners when you do a search for beginner basics for video editing. I’ve been starting to put a playlist of videos together too with more videos to follow ua-cam.com/play/PLqElJ1GF-MN_5pc5mjD5eEBzl6oOI9J7x.html
I'm just a hobbyist where video editing is concerned and use it mainly for editing drone/Osmo footage. I found Premiere probably the easiest to use (slider based controls), but also experienced crashing and other niggles, plus the cost of subscription is high for hobbyist use. I've always found FCP to be quite unintuitive myself, if honest, but that's maybe because I haven't taken time to learn it properly! My MacBook has an M1 chip, so I suppose FCP been optimised specifically for this. I started to use Resolve - initially the free version - then got a free licence to Studio, when I purchased the Speed Editor. They say it has a steep learning curve, but it's also quite easy to just get up and running, plus all the plugins you mention are available for that platform too. Not trying to promote Resolve here you understand - just sharing my personal experiences.
@@TamaraGabrielUK thanks so much. Actually im an artist wanna be youtuber. I just want to sketch and post it on youtube. I was supposed to buy camtasia because they say that is the most easiest. Can you record your screen using finalcut?
How are you dealing with the lack of internal storage on your MacBook? Are you using cloud or transferring data on an external drive? I’ve literally just ordered mine a few days ago, also with 1 TB of storage. After watching your video, I’m now a bit worried I’ve made a mistake 😢
It depends on the size of my project. When I shoot with my A7s III I tend to shoot in 10-Bit 4:22, 4K, Slog3, so the files can get very big. At that point I edit off my external SSD. Otherwise, if my project is smaller because I've used an action camera (even though I still shoot in 4K or 5.3K with a GoPro) then I have enough space.
Hi there! Nice video, thanks for your opinion about FC and Premiere. I'm just trying this FC Trial and I have a question - did you made that title subtitles, I mean 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 also in FC?
What really sucks is the I love playing games and will always need a desktop for one and I hate the idea of having to keep up with both a Macbook and a PC.
@@TamaraGabrielUK after sleeping on it, I'm just going to have to invest into a docking situation and get an HDMI switcher. I cant even edit dash cam footage on PP (mac or PC) so I'll have to make a switch to Final Cut. Loving your channel btw. Not a lot of channels that focus on talking head type content and I love the advice and rigs you are showing off. Expect to see me often in your comments! I'm rooting for your success.
I use Final Cut simply for two reasons. No subscription hell like with Adobe and usually Apple made products like that run best on the Mac silicone. When adobe made it $60/month and locked me into a year contract, I couldn't take it anymore.
You forgot the main reason. You don't need to pay monthly for it, you buy it once and own it forever. That's the only reason why I'd change to FCP cause I honestly really like premiere pro, I just feel the monthly payments are a ripoff.
I tried premiere a few weeks ago after years of using FCPX (I needed to use warp stabilizer), and after experiencing the weird gamma issue when exporting on M1, I came back running to FCPX in a heartbeat! FCPX is not perfect but Apple has really done well in terms of stability/performance/ease of use/and just plain outright simple and no weird shit lol
Try davinci resolve it in my opinion number one becuase most have to port to do there color grading(it’s the standard in color grating) plus no crashing reallly
Hi Tamara. I'm relatively new to editing and don't do it that often but have been using Premier and am pretty frustrated with it. Just wondering, if after a few months since this video you still rate FCP?
I hate Adobe, so this is interesting. But I will say that in all fairness, Premiere does have an autosave feature you can enable and set up in Preferences! Can’t remember if it’s on by default, but I would highly recommend using it if you ever need to work in it again. The mag timeline seems really interesting… Working with premiere’s timeline can be really annoying and feel archaic.
Yeah, I used the autosave feature with Premiere but it’s not as frequent as FCPX. FCPX is instant so you won’t lose any work at all, but with Premiere you could do a whole chunk before it saves and then it crashes and you’ve just lost all that stuff because the save was maybe 5 minutes ago.
I had that same export problem in Premiere last week. I had to exports at the absolute highest setting to get clear export. Every lower resolution made it look like the video was playing at dial up speeds.. garbage! I've been thinking about switching to FCP so it might just be time.
Planning to build my first PC and I'd also like to buy a Mac Mini/Studio. I'll take Davinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro any day (even tho I've NEVER used them before) over Premiere Pro because you just pay once, it's not subscription based like Premiere Pro. Also, I've heard many times that DR is more stable and less buggy on Mac than on PC so that's a nice bonus. Instead of fighting over PC vs Mac I'll just try both out and have the best of both worlds...
Nice tour. No one likes Adobe's subscription fee. My bro has has been using FCP for 13 years. I've been using Corel VideoStudio 17+ years and I dread moving to a new editing environment. My secret with VS is 5+ years between upgrades and keep expectations low.
I use the iMac Pro for editing, I never used premier pro or final cut. Might try that good video 👍, that issue with memory get a FireWire 2tb external flash drive SSD you can set the software to use that for processing no different in speed or performance but will cure the issue.
Good Morrin Lov congrats on your upgrade Lov have you given Davinci Resole a try I think you like it and it's free my brother inlaw has it on his Mac How's the little one's doing? are you finished shopping for Xmas enjoy your holidays
The "QuickTime Gamma Shift" issue, where exported video looks washed out in QuickTime Player, Safari, and Chrome is more of an Apple issue. Adobe uses the standard gamma of 2.4, the television broadcast standard for exported video. FireFox, ironically doesn't suffer from this issue as it doesn't use ColorSync, so video viewed in FireFox would look exactly like how it looks in your Premiere timeline. This long-standing problem can be tackled in three ways: 1. Do nothing: Use the exported video file as-is, knowing that it'll look fine on most TVs and computer displays. 2. Export gamma-corrected video for Mac viewing: Use Adobe's free QuickTime Gamma Compensation LUT on export to make the video look similar to the Premiere timeline in color-managed Mac applications. Which would have an impact on how it's viewed on non Macs. 3. Add contrast to the Premiere timeline: Use an adjustment layer to increase contrast in Premiere, making the exported video look better on computer displays, which use a brighter gamma value. The root of this issue lies in Apple's use of a non-standard gamma value of 1.96 for displaying Rec.709 video, causing the washed-out appearance. This problem won't be resolved until Apple addresses it. For now, video editors can grade for Rec.709, calibrate their displays, and try not to stress over the inconsistency. Yeah, but the constant crashing might be a bit of a deal breaker ^^
Yep, I saw a thread about all those solutions, but I didn’t want the inconsistency of videos looking overly saturated or contrasty in some scenarios and not others so FCPX was the best solution, haha. I don’t regret switching at all 😅
Thank you for the great info, I'm about to edit my first video, total newbie, I didn't even know what FCP or Premiere pro was a few days ago. When you said you learned FCP proper (due to the magnetic timeline), how did you go about doing that?? What are the options for proper learning of FCP?
I read some documentation but mainly just jumped in and started editing projects and picked stuff up along the way. I’ve put this video together though ua-cam.com/video/5Y02mX7KNBw/v-deo.html&feature=shareb and I’m currently working on a mini video series for beginners.
@@TamaraGabrielUK thank you. I would be willing to pay you for a little help, consulting, really liked your vibe. I’m starting an unusual UA-cam channel/business and definitely need advice.
A lot of pros underestimate the magnetic timeline. The traditional track based editing has it’s place and there are certain advantages but the speed I can edit on final cut pro because of the magnetic timeline just cannot be replicated by track based editing.
Yup! Final Cut is the best editing software for creative storytellers! It gets the complicated UI nonsense of other systems out of the way and streamlines the entire workflow and editing process. At the same time it’s also a much deeper and feature rich app than one would think at first glance. Premiere has better advertising and has had a ton of features added to it. But I have never enjoyed using it, especially because I’ve lost so many hours of work, it’s frustrating.
@@TamaraGabrielUK fair enough! I thought since you're definitely proficient in color grading you'd enjoy playing around with Color Management and/or ACES with your A7s3 Slog3 10bit footage 😊

OMG I thought the Gamma shift was just me, I was wondering what was going on when I was exporting or even editing. This is BS, OK, time to change to Final Cut?
@@TamaraGabrielUK yep, I asked a whole bunch of people on Reddit what was going on with my footage, they all blamed me. Thanks for confirming this gamut issue is an issue with Premiere. It's so annoying though, especially that you said it was a Mac specific issue. i'm pretty much done with Adobe, there are other Mac specific issues with Photoshop also.
I started editing in FCP then moved to Premiere Pro. But now I'm bouncing between Premiere and DaVinci. Do you do your color grade and graphics in FCPX, or do you use Motion?
As a heavy Adobe user I've always been curious (but have never actively looked into this), what's your workflow when creating/editing and importing graphics or images into fcp/resolve or when you have to tweak your audio a little more than your video editing SW is able to do?
TREMENDOUSLY helpful, thank you! I'm moving from stills (Adobe PS/LR) to motion and have been trying to decide whether to remain in the Adobe ecosystem or go FCP or Davinci Resolve. I believe FCP is the way to go. Much appreciated!
that dam gammma exporting thing still really bugs me .....great video .... i think I'll still stick with PR just because it's like second nature when editing on it..... but yeaaah FCP does look cool
I think I spotted a solution if you need to use your PC. DaVinci Resolve. I also think if you did a video on it like you had for FCP on a Mac it'll be something like this video 😊
@@TamaraGabrielUK Oh. And DVR is primarily for colour grading (all the other stuff was built around it)... Anyway you're probably paying for PP and it'd be waste of money not to use it 🙂
FCP does crash sometimes (in my experience) but it never loses any work- so its not a big deal at all. Also, it's MASSIVELY important to delete 'Generated Library Files' - Unused from the Library periodically to save space. A project can grow to 500GBs maybe more. Once deleting that and letting FCP render again you can get back down to like 30GBs.

@@TamaraGabrielUK I have to say that Filmora is also great for professionals, like youtube videos, wedding and etc.
Right now I am also really considering switching to Final Cut. The only thing that keeps me with Prpro is the automatic transcript for subtitles and the silent parts that can be cut out automatically since the last update which is a HUGE improvement. Is there something similar for Final Cut?
Thanks so much for your analysis. It was confident and gave me a lot of insight. I just got a Mac Studio and looking forward to trying it out.
You're very welcome!
Let's now hope that fcpx brings some nice updates
Thanks, I have used Premier and after watching your video I am going to try Final Cut, cheers for this good video
Love your style :) your dreads look freshhhh
Btw look up some shortcuts for final cut.
Thanks. I got it from Amazon.
Davinci Resolve is another great option. Works on both mac and pc start on your laptop finish on your desktop.
Just found your channel and loved your straight up review.
Thank you 😊
😊 (any tips from anyone would be so useful please, tia)
I have to admit, this may as well be French to me at the moment, but I hope I’ll get there 😊
Sorry, I missed this somehow.
Glad it helped, and congrats on graduating! 😊 How did you get on with Premiere during university?
@@TamaraGabrielUK Premiere was my go-to editing software for 2 years! Since your video, I've been working with FCP and it's definitely a learning curve but I am liking it quite a lot!
Ah cool. It takes some getting used to but yeah it’s great.
Wait till you try Resolve, gonna give up on both FCP and Premiere.
I started playing around with Resolve yesterday but I’ll stick with FCPX for now. Resolve has some cool features but I don’t have time to dive in and learn it all right now, plus I’m loving FCPX.
Yes, FCP is a joy to use!
+1 on Davinci Resolve even the free version is very decent. Great video though and good to see you found software that works for you, that's the most important part.
💯
Here here for Davinci
You deserve many more views young lady.
Thanks!
@@TamaraGabrielUK Thank you!
No problem
Would Premiere pro.. Aftereffects n Photoshop work smoothly on MACBOOK pro 14inch 16gb ram
I’ve still not taken the time to try Resolve myself yet, but it has a good rep. It’s something I’ll try out in the future 😊
such a useful video! so clean. just waiting on FCP installing as I have HAD IT with premiere.
so if my laptop is only 512g. storage should. we store all our footage on sd drives instead ??? you know the ones that have 2tb 5tb etc??
@@lillyinthefield2787 external HDD or SSD works fine also with video editing. Especially if you have something from M series chips
Im excited to buy finalcut because of you. Question do you use the trackpad while editing or a mouse?
Amazing! 😁 I use a trackpad, I prefer it to a mouse. I can edit a lot quicker with the trackpad. I also use a Loupdeck at times.
Hey! I got motion graphics from here geni.us/tEEoIY and imported them into FCPX.
Great video , real people , real reasons for your points . Thanks
Can u please inform me which latest versions of Fcpx support to mac os monterey 12.7.6
What really sucks is the I love playing games and will always need a desktop for one and I hate the idea of having to keep up with both a Macbook and a PC.
Yeah, that’s an issue. Fortunately for me, I prefer playing games on a console, so I won’t miss that so much.
That’s so kind, thank you 😊 Do you go by Tristan?
I use Final Cut simply for two reasons. No subscription hell like with Adobe and usually Apple made products like that run best on the Mac silicone.
When adobe made it $60/month and locked me into a year contract, I couldn't take it anymore.
is fonal cut pro > still the best option for editing as of right now >??? or have you switched i keep hearing capcut is the new king soon??
I still use FCPX. I think it’s a great program. CapCut is a good alternative if you want something free that still has a lot of options.
@TamaraGabrielUK thanks so much your a blessing to us newbies ❤️🩹❤️🩷🤎💜🧡🩵💛💙💚🤍🖤🩶
You forgot the main reason. You don't need to pay monthly for it, you buy it once and own it forever. That's the only reason why I'd change to FCP cause I honestly really like premiere pro, I just feel the monthly payments are a ripoff.
what you'd say when comparing FCP with Davinci ?
Can’t say, I’ve not used DVR yet.
I tried premiere a few weeks ago after years of using FCPX (I needed to use warp stabilizer), and after experiencing the weird gamma issue when exporting on M1, I came back running to FCPX in a heartbeat! FCPX is not perfect but Apple has really done well in terms of stability/performance/ease of use/and just plain outright simple and no weird shit lol
totally agree with you Tamara! FCPX is the way to go if you want to edit quickly but efficiently and just want to get your content out there
💯
Try davinci resolve it in my opinion number one becuase most have to port to do there color grading(it’s the standard in color grating) plus no crashing reallly
great editorial video. super helpful and succinct.
Thanks 😊
Hi Tamara. I'm relatively new to editing and don't do it that often but have been using Premier and am pretty frustrated with it. Just wondering, if after a few months since this video you still rate FCP?
Hey. Yeah, 100%. I love FCPX.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Very cool! Good to know!! Maybe I should switch 😬
What about Davinci, a brilliant program.
One I’ll try at some point 😊
MacBook and fcpx every time. I switched as well. I only switched because of the price.Btw love your videos keep them coming .
Thanks!
I literally bought FCP 5 days ago because PrP was taxing on my CPU and freezing was a major issue.
Welcome to the other side 😁
Just found your channel. Love your videos! keep up the amazing work!!!
Thanks so much! I appreciate it 😊
Thank you for this video. I’ve always used Mac’s and FCPX and I can highly recommend the new Mac studio. Incredibly powerful and affordable.
Can’t wait to get one!
Great content creating!! very informative!
I use the iMac Pro for editing, I never used premier pro or final cut. Might try that good video 👍, that issue with memory get a FireWire 2tb external flash drive SSD you can set the software to use that for processing no different in speed or performance but will cure the issue.
Thanks!
Good Morrin Lov congrats on your upgrade Lov have you given Davinci Resole a try I think you like it and it's free my brother inlaw has it on his Mac How's the little one's doing? are you finished shopping for Xmas enjoy your holidays
I’ll try it out at some point. Nearly got all the shopping done. How about you?

Already a FCP user but it was cool to see your reasons for switching. Nice vid
Thanks
Have you thought about da vinci resolve?
Yeah, I’ll try it at some point, when I have more time to spare. I’ve been meaning to for a long time.
That magnetic timeline drove me nuts too, but I got used to it (somewhat) lol. Love my Macbook pro and FCPX
Yeah it was a complete nightmare at first, but I love it now.
This long-standing problem can be tackled in three ways:
Yeah no problem. If you want to drop me an email we can arrange something 😊 hello@tamaragabriel.co.uk
A lot of pros underestimate the magnetic timeline. The traditional track based editing has it’s place and there are certain advantages but the speed I can edit on final cut pro because of the magnetic timeline just cannot be replicated by track based editing.
I agree.
Thank you for your video!! I been looking to switch!
You’re welcome!
I stopped using Premiere for the same gamma shift problem! Thanks for this video, FCPX is definitely my preferred platform!
It’s such a strange issue, isn’t it? And frustrating! But I’m the same, I love FCPX.
I have been watching your videos for a while. Cool videos. Thanks for the share!
Thanks! 😊
Thanks for the heads up on the fcp free trail, much appreciated.
No problem 😊
I’m starting to vlog on Mac Pro 16 using CapCut and it keeps crashing I think my be my storage but will try Final Cut pro
Probably the 1000 time with this question but, have you tried Davinci Resolve?
Not yet, I keep meaning to but with the 90-day free trial of Final Cut I thought I’d give that a go, then I was pulled in and loved it 😆
@@TamaraGabrielUK fair enough! I thought since you're definitely proficient in color grading you'd enjoy playing around with Color Management and/or ACES with your A7s3 Slog3 10bit footage 😊
Yeah, I’ll definitely give it a go when I’ve got some down time, as it seems to be popular for colour grading.
Mac are very good the only problem his the cost of upgrades and getting repairs ,, very expensive .. wish you well
Thanks
thank you. love your channel. thank you for the osmo action 5 videos ! Great video Tamara. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Tamara can you please tell the specs of your macbook pro? thanks :D
Sure, here you go:
Apple M1 Pro with 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine
32GB unified memory
140W USB-C Power Adapter
1TB SSD storage
Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI port, SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 port
16-inch Liquid Retina XDR display
*I'd go for 2TB SSD storage minimum though.
@Tamara Gabriel can this be used as my only editing laptop?.
Yeah, there’s no reason why not.
OMG I thought the Gamma shift was just me, I was wondering what was going on when I was exporting or even editing. This is BS, OK, time to change to Final Cut?
I have zero regrets moving to FCPX. It’s great.
Oh yeah? I’ve not had issues with Photoshop, just Premiere.
I started editing in FCP then moved to Premiere Pro. But now I'm bouncing between Premiere and DaVinci.
Do you do your color grade and graphics in FCPX, or do you use Motion?
I use CineMatch and FilmConvert Nitrate to colour grade my footage 😊
@@TamaraGabrielUK And your motion graphics?
I get my motion graphics from Motion Array geni.us/tEEoIY That’s an affiliate link but if you choose to use it it’ll give you $50 off 😊
As a heavy Adobe user I've always been curious (but have never actively looked into this), what's your workflow when creating/editing and importing graphics or images into fcp/resolve or when you have to tweak your audio a little more than your video editing SW is able to do?
i wanted to go to Premiere Pro but when I found out it was a monthly service. They can kick rocks

When you're on MAC: FCP optimized, one time payment, user friendly, rendering is so fast! 💯
Yeah, it’s great. I’m still enjoying using it.
TREMENDOUSLY helpful, thank you! I'm moving from stills (Adobe PS/LR) to motion and have been trying to decide whether to remain in the Adobe ecosystem or go FCP or Davinci Resolve. I believe FCP is the way to go. Much appreciated!
No problem. DaVinci has a good rep too, I’ve not yet tried it but I just love FCPX at the moment.
that dam gammma exporting thing still really bugs me .....great video .... i think I'll still stick with PR just because it's like second nature when editing on it..... but yeaaah FCP does look cool
And Final Cut costs one time $300 - and Premiere has an expensive subscription model.
Yep!
I think I spotted a solution if you need to use your PC. DaVinci Resolve. I also think if you did a video on it like you had for FCP on a Mac it'll be something like this video 😊
Unfortunately, I found DaVinci Resolve did the exact same thing with the gamma shift issue.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Oh. And DVR is primarily for colour grading (all the other stuff was built around it)... Anyway you're probably paying for PP and it'd be waste of money not to use it 🙂
thanks for the insight will give it another try
Any time!
Yeah, that’s a massive space saver.
FCPX rarely crashes over the 10 years I have been using it.
thanks! this video has helped me soooo much.
Amazing!
