Isin't it insane that one day you open UA-cam and find arguably the best City Pop DJ set with top quality sound and thousands of dollars worth only of vinyl on the channel with 2k subs? All seasoned with historical references, peek of humor, charisma and camera/editing work? God, we live in a strange time. Good job man. If you up for more we all welcome
I've been waiting for something like this for years and all of sudden it pops up in my recommended on a random Thursday afternoon. I feel you for sure.
Thank you very much for such an appreciation! Actually, it's important to realize that I just started recording my DJ sets. I haven't quite stabilized my style, my approach to shooting, my work schedule. Right now there are time-consuming moves of all my equipment from one place to another, which makes me unable to record new stuff. Plus, in order for the channel to keep growing, you have to publish videos regularly. But I can't physically produce such complex videos as this one every week. And I don't have that many good ideas. So I have to come up with something simple and easy to realize. And why did I manage to make such a high quality video from the very beginning? - Because my profession is video editing director. I work in film production. I know what a good picture, good editing and drama are. And if I'm still weak in DJing, then I have, as they say in our country, "eaten the dog" in making videos. In fact, I don't know yet if I'm really interested in seeing the channel develop. I wanted to record a video about city-pop that was as close as possible to the concept of "the best on UA-cam", so I did it. It exists in a vacuum and that's enough for me at the moment.
Same here man. I discovered City Pop about 2 years ago. Have around 60 albums in my collection now. None of my friends are into it. Maybe it's because I've been to Japan. I can't help it. This music makes me feel good.
This could've just been a normal playlist video but instead of copying the songs and splicing them together you played each one individually, instead of just the music you included excellent camera work with a beautiful backdrop of all the music we're listening to, and on top of that there's little snippets of commentary about your thoughts on the tracks, as well as a bar to show how long until the next song. Beautifully executed, thank you for this wonderful video!!!
Maximum respect for that bow to Miki Matsubara at the end of "Stay With Me". Such a lovely lady with an absolutely enchanting voice... Gone too soon. RIP 🙏
That's so cool when at 1:08:30 tatsuro Yamashita is singing "Honey, I love you" and you're pointing at Mariya Takeuchi's drawing, because she's his wife
Really impressed with this. Got it as a random pick in my suggestion feed and I was expecting yet another lazy reupload of the same five songs with bad transitions and uniftting looping retro anime gifs, but the amount of love, skill, attention to detail and work that went into this excelled past all my expectations.
Finally, something new and familiar. I've been listening to citypop for such a long time that I've grown with the familiar songs but am glad to have discovered some new sensational ones
So glad I could relive my favorite songs and hear so many new ones, and have this experience with so many other fans, scrolling to see what they wrote. It all means so much to me! I'm glad we're here to appreciate how special this music is!
when i discovered citypop i was starting my computer engineering major, at the time i'd spend nights listening to citypop while studying and making assignments. Now, i'm working on my final assignment while listening to the set and couldn't help but shed a tear when Plastic Love started playing. Got overwhelmed with memories of all i went through, guess time sure does fly.
This is a genuinely important addition to the UA-cam city pop scene. It helps that it includes some thoughtful creative additions like the recording of the Yamanote line. The last thing we need is another uncurated list of low quality rips. These all sound incredible, and ultimately nobody is going to be able to tell the difference except on the most egregiously overpriced soundsystems. For most of these tracks, this is the best quality I've heard available on UA-cam. Too many audiophiles are focused on upgrading their physical equipment and forget about the most important equipment; your ears and your brain. Sometimes the best way to improve your listening experience isn't a gold plated cable or getting your hands on rare master recordings, it's shutting up and listening to the music.
You should also understand that UA-cam gives sound with bitrate of 128 kbit/sec, and on spectroanalysers you can immediately see the cutoff at 16 kHz. Listening to music on UA-cam cannot be called audiophile in any way. I took it upon myself to simply produce a decent sound using what I have.
This video is a true gift for all city pop fans. The quality and effort put in here really makes it impossible to simply listen to this video in the background, but really enjoy every second of it, rediscovering all the songs we've heard so many times, in a new way. Simply incredible. My favorite singers are Mariya Takeuchi and Taeko Ohnuki, their discographies are incredible and few people know the richness of their albums. While Mariya is basically the representation of city pop, Taeko seeks a more experimental side in her music. I love to hear more from both!
"Aspiring"?????? My man you have done something that extremely few people have done, in a way that shows the utmost respect for the artists and their creations, and shared it with us! I'm just sitting here listening in total awe and feeling so full of gratitude for this gift you've given the world 🙏🏻thank you :)
You seem like a best friend, a wonderful and respectful person. You're a great DJ. You pay your respects to each deceased artist. You give trivia. You show us original songs.
Thanks for this to Bird Parker and company, who were at the forefront of not just a technical but also a metaphysical breakthrough in the music of the 20th century
I have, in my own way, tried to preserve city pop. I’ve downloaded hundreds of songs over the years, I have many live recordings of artists like Tatsuro Yamashita that I doubt I could ever find again if I didn’t hav them saved. I have vinyl albums like moonglow, after 5 clash, and Ride On Time. But this is something different all-together. This is a love letter to the genre, and to the dream that we all share when we hear this music of the past, and it inspires us as we look to the future. I salute you sir, this is a masterpiece.
For me, This is the Quintessential city pop playlist. Good cinematography, some commentary, and songs familiar and new to many, it's perfect in nearly every way, and I'll never get bored of these songs.
Yo I’m Japanese, grew up with city pop sounds and being big fan. I feel your true love and respect about this kind of music n culture, especially transition with sound of train announcements amazed me, perfect set list 👍🏽 keep it up
I might have found the most underrated UA-cam channel ever. The amount of effort put in the video editing, the selection, the storytelling, and the vibe is just INSANELY MAGICAL.
Around 8:30, announcement in the train saying the train is heading to Ikebukuro station. That’s where Tatsuro Yamashita was born and grew up!!!! Just Amazing🔥
i found out about city pop and jazz fusion back in april and have turned the genre upside down, finding countless classics and hidden gems, and this video feels like a love letter to that journey. *I* made it.
I'm so glad this was recommend for me. I got like 75% of the catalog in my playlist but this video also allowed me to see more city pop artists I most likely wouldn't have found on my own. I love City Pop😁💜

Your effort does not go unnoticed. Dedication like this is a pleasure to watch. Absolutely love the presentation and music selection. You also have a very cool look.
Been listening to this compilation last 2 weeks every day!! Best one on YT for sure!! Love this guy and his taste for music and mixing! Never get tired of listening to this amazing mix. Thank you WIR
the effort put into making this playlist is unreal every song is played individually, on an physical player, where most channel just download the songs online and simply edit them in one video live mixing actual recording and not just a still image personal commentary gives it an intimate touch if this doesn't deserve at least your sub, I don't know what will
I love how as the video gets closer to the end, the light gets dimmer, it makes me feel like I've been through a journey just to get to the end. I love the sound that you produced, it feels like ambient songs and just takes me back to those unexisting time 😌😌
Yo! I am only 10 min's into this video, and the recording of the Yamonte Line got me feeling some type a way!!!! Man, it brings me back to nostalgia for Tokyo summer nights. Wonderful production and beautiful setlist! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!
This elevates the live vinyl setlist video experience. Not only the incredible music and setlist choices, but the stage set, the visuals, the fun facts and stories....INREDIBLE work. All of these make you truly live this experience.
Oh I absolutely enjoyed this so much. I am a life long Japanese learner and city pop has a very special place in my heart. This video is so well-thought and has so much heart, it's beautiful. Junko Ohashi is one of my favourite singers and possibly sweet love is my favourite song from city pop. I teared up a bit when you mentioned her passing and payed respects, I felt really sad when she passed away. Also For You by Tatsuro Yamashita is one of my all time favourite albums, it's so so goood. By the way you might enjoy a song named Teibo by Atsuko Nina
There are soo many great City Pop tracks that i think you would really enjoy. Cheer Girl - EPO Teibo - Atsuko Nina Tobashite Taxi Man - Yurie Kokubu Chiheisen No Kanata - Hiromi Iwasaki Rainy 246 - Keno Kurozumi There are soo many more! I definitely am a fan of Kengo - a lot of his music is just GOOD, i would recommend checking him out.
So I only heard of this genre this morning, I heard Midnight pretenders and fell in love so I did some digging and ended up here, you just opened a door to a whole new world, thank you thank you thank you
1) I love the walk down memory lane. When my father was stationed in Japan in the US Air Force (1987), he used to leave the radio on to a station that played pretty much nothing bu these bands/artists. Listening to music at 5 to 6 years old stays with you decades later. 2) unlike other videos that have these playlists, you've gone through the effort in b-roll video clips of turntables and even bobbing your head listening to the tunes, as well as cards on screen showing artist and title. Good production quality. You've definitely earned a "like" ;) Thank you for the entertainment and memories! I've only just started trying to collect vinyls and cassettes from the era.
I like how this cat just puts a track on, adjusts the levels a bit, and jams to each track; this music is balanced well enough that you don't have to fidget with all the dials for it to be hot fire, but we appreciate the fine tuning
I'm not even finished listening to this and had to give love and props to the whole production and dedication. Glad to see more than just a reupload of the same tracks and bad transitions. ❤
I usually don’t write comments, but I couldn’t resist here. Thank you so much for your efforts, the video turned out great! The atmosphere, the choice of tracks, the change of images, the quality of editing and sound are at the highest level. Being a big fan of Japanese city pop, I got a lot of positive emotions while watching this video. Thanks again for your efforts! :>
If you finished this playlist, you have just graduated with an honorary certificate in City Pop Studies from WIR Academy. Omedetou! Congratulations!
I have listen and watched this soooo many times! I love my analog story but this is beyond that. No dj from analog has every put so much soul into their set as you have. I love it. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Much love from Ecuador.
@@pashafedorov4365 You shouldn't talk about MAJ like that, my friend. This channel also inspired me to get into vinyl DJing. And you should realize that their channel is built on a completely different concept. They record a lot of sets, regularly, an hour long, with different DJs and very different genres. Big respect to them for that! But I work alone, and I rarely release videos.
I work on 2 screens of PC, usually i used both to work, open UA-cam (musics) in one tab and just forget about it. But THIS ? I played this on full screen for exclusively one screen, and used other one for work. This relieved my stressed mind while working, reading captions while being educated about the J-Pop history, and seeing the joy while you dancing on the vibes of the music, just wow.... Doing full 2 screens back and forth is really tiring, so this really helped me relax while work. And you proved that you are a good video guy, and what is more cool is you are a Russian which is very rare ! I opened the VK link, also getting very surprised that your subscriber is only 360 people there... Keep up the good work, we love you from Indonesia ! +1 Subscriber
Thank you for your detailed comment and for your attention! In fact, not only in Russia, but in the entire post-Soviet space, there are many talented people in various fields, including UA-cam bloggers. It is not a rare thing. It's normal when the rest of the world doesn't know you or your country.....
we don't deserve you. thank you for this video! I love city pop and vinyl and your video is literally everything I could ask for. I can recommend Another Summer from Omega Tribe and S. Kiyotaka, I love this album!
Insane production value and great track picks! Awesome job my man, brings me back to the days when Van Paugam was running his City Pop radio streams here on UA-cam before it got taken down.
The interesting facts about the vinyls and music, the sheer collection of fantastic records and merch, your energy, and the skill of putting it all together like this are all so inspiring and enjoyable to watch. Having you DJ at the corner of my desktop at the office is a cherry on top of the day, and I enjoy the great music all the more for it.
This has to be one of the best videos related to City Pop! First of all, the overall quality is insane. The video and audio quality are perfect! The entire compilation is just top tier, with great choices. The knowledge you have behind the tracks too, you don't just listen to them, you did your research and you really live them. The mixing is done really well and watching this video just calms my mind. The video has been edited so well, with all these cuts and angles, edits and texts. It's amazing! Thank you so much for this compilation, you did an incredible job here! Can't wait for further videos. I love it ♥
Hey man, i'm from Brazil and I saw your entire performance and I really liked the songs, I confess that I know little about this genre, and it was good to meet other singers. It's cool to see your excitement, I can see that you really like it, congratulations!
More views for this DJ masterpiece. The way you did the transitions adds so much to these songs nostalgia factor. Seeing you enjoy the music really is infectious. Honestly looking for how to save this video in case it is removed. Anyone got any idea... There is so much software for this.
I just want to say thank you for taking the time to produce this. It will keep me happy for many hours. Its a crime you don't have more subs, but for those of us that have heard it your effort is very much appreciated.

Its literally 1 am here, and i cry my eyes out of joy bro...i love you! Thank you very very much for this.
If you up for more we all welcome
i was shocked when i saw the sub count too
I've been waiting for something like this for years and all of sudden it pops up in my recommended on a random Thursday afternoon.
As long as this video gets the recognition it deserves we dont need anything else bro 👍@@wirusmusic
@@wirusmusic well mate, you certainly accomplished that. This is the best city pop video on UA-cam. Thanks for bringing me joy.
I have two phases in life....
BCP - Before City Pop
ACP - After City Pop
I relate to this comment so much

Same here man. I discovered City Pop about 2 years ago. Have around 60 albums in my collection now. None of my friends are into it. Maybe it's because I've been to Japan. I can't help it. This music makes me feel good.
I grew up with a lot of City Pop and never realized it until the songs started appearing on my recommend on UA-cam and on Spotify shuffle.
OMG I'm stealing this! Love it!
City pop lovers are all dear friends across generations, eras, and ethnicity.
I am here your dear friend
hiii so real
heeeeyy friend! I'm from J1407B as what humans call, so also from different race loves City Pop :)
Earthbound lover too my friiend, earthbound lovers too
Agree 😀👍🏻
The moment that solidified this as the 'Best City Pop Mix' is the second you incorporated the Yamanote Line train sounds. Legendary move 🤯🤯🤯
That addition was solid af
So good! I just came back from Tokyo and often frequented Ikebukuro station, so this was a great nugget!
I got shivers
Choosing Momoko Kikuchi's "Overture"as the first piece was a great choice.
Agreed. Love that album and such a great way to start!
It sounds like something from a JRPG. I love it!
@@sagadabeansStraight out of dragon quest lol

@@w花b Is it actually? I was thinking it had a very JRPG/Nintendo sound to it.
😲
This video isn't just about a genre of music, it's also about love, passion, and self-improvement. The best video we're going to see this year.
Anyone with common sense would see that. Thanks for the cringy UA-cam comment for validation
What lol
Yeah yeah all that but most importantly, it's about ads every 10 minutes and the struggle of musicians in the world of AI and capitalism.
Fuckin' A!
I feel like I'm sitting in a free lecture about city pop music! Top quality video!
Could see the passion and excellence in the performance of these songs right from the beginning. What a great recommendation!
The song selection is so legendary, including the overture from momoko and for you for tatsuro as ending
50:32 the way how you pay respect to Miki-san is heartwarming
This whole video is my vibe now
"Aspiring"?????? My man you have done something that extremely few people have done, in a way that shows the utmost respect for the artists and their creations, and shared it with us! I'm just sitting here listening in total awe and feeling so full of gratitude for this gift you've given the world 🙏🏻thank you :)
You seem like a best friend, a wonderful and respectful person. You're a great DJ. You pay your respects to each deceased artist. You give trivia. You show us original songs.
City pop and Jazz Fusion have to be some of the best music genres to ever exist
me and you buddy
Thanks for this to Bird Parker and company, who were at the forefront of not just a technical but also a metaphysical breakthrough in the music of the 20th century
Agreed!
I'd add AOR, West Coast Yacht Rock

Man, UA-cam actually recommended something good. This set went CRAZY, mad respect to you for giving such love to this genre.

Thank you for the assessment! I made one good video, but whether there will be more similar videos released - I don't know yet
@@wirusmusic I've check your previous one and yes, they are too. Keep up the good work man, we NEED more of these 👊

It's so good to see this kind of video on UA-cam in this era
Reading all these comments makes me so happy, as there are so much people who loves the same music T_____T
Around 8:30, announcement in the train saying the train is heading to Ikebukuro station. That’s where Tatsuro Yamashita was born and grew up!!!!
Just Amazing🔥
And Tatsuro’s song after the train announcement ❤
Wow! It was an accident 🙈
i found out about city pop and jazz fusion back in april and have turned the genre upside down, finding countless classics and hidden gems, and this video feels like a love letter to that journey. *I* made it.
Stay with me always makes me cry, I dont know why...
It's so sad and beautiful 🥲

Wonderful playlist! The inclusion of the Yamanote line train announcement is a fantastic subtle touch, as is the AE86 👌👌👌
I'm so glad this was recommend for me. I got like 75% of the catalog in my playlist but this video also allowed me to see more city pop artists I most likely wouldn't have found on my own. I love City Pop😁💜
just music and the playlist with easy JPG images are good enough, but the detail and passion you guys put in this video are outstanding 😍

I've binged on playlists before, but this artistry has elevated my expectations for music compilations going forward.
after listening to the whole compilation you just revived my desire to collect citypop vinyls, theres a lot in here i have to hunt for tysm!
the effort put into making this playlist is unreal
every song is played individually, on an physical player, where most channel just download the songs online and simply edit them in one video
live mixing
actual recording and not just a still image
personal commentary gives it an intimate touch
if this doesn't deserve at least your sub, I don't know what will
this is literally heaven for me. all the song in this video is on my playlist that i play everyday
songs are organized perfectly, sequenced like a movie. congratulations on this achievement!
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!
regards from Brazil! I'm listening to this incredible DJ Set while working, thank you so much for this amazing experience!
City Pop changed my life
This elevates the live vinyl setlist video experience.
By the way you might enjoy a song named Teibo by Atsuko Nina
a week has passed since I discovered this beautiful set, I can't spend a day without listening to it!
I love your video
Tour song selection touched my heart.

There are soo many more! I definitely am a fan of Kengo - a lot of his music is just GOOD, i would recommend checking him out.
So I only heard of this genre this morning, I heard Midnight pretenders and fell in love so I did some digging and ended up here, you just opened a door to a whole new world, thank you thank you thank you
Yay!
I really hope it was my video that was the defining moment in your search ;)
I can't get over how phenomenal this was - the music, the production value, the sound quality, the PERFORMANCE! What a gem.
I like how this cat just puts a track on, adjusts the levels a bit, and jams to each track; this music is balanced well enough that you don't have to fidget with all the dials for it to be hot fire, but we appreciate the fine tuning
Finally someone is paying attention to this!
Thank you!
These days I rarely subscribe to new channels that I didn't even know theres an animation now. You made me realize that, cheers !
If you finished this playlist, you have just graduated with an honorary certificate in City Pop Studies from WIR Academy.
Omedetou!
Congratulations!
😂👍🏻 Thank you, sir 🎉
When you mixed in the sounds of a Japanese train at 8:00, I knew it all represented your passion, love, and dedication.
I have listen and watched this soooo many times! I love my analog story but this is beyond that. No dj from analog has every put so much soul into their set as you have. I love it. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Much love from Ecuador.
+++ MAJ just sucks in compare with this gem

Thank you for your detailed comment and for your attention!
In fact, not only in Russia, but in the entire post-Soviet space, there are many talented people in various fields, including UA-cam bloggers. It is not a rare thing.
It's normal when the rest of the world doesn't know you or your country.....
Man, I'm coming back to this video every week since he uploaded it
This is the best video of citypop playlist. Saved the video so that I can watch over and over. Appreciate all graphics and vinyl covers.
OMG it is insane, you are the best!
What amazes me the most is not the music or the mix itself, although they're great, but the value of those vinyls today.
Best City Pop video ever. The added touches of respect to the artists and text commentary make it indispensable.
we don't deserve you. thank you for this video!
I can only conclude that this is the best collection I've found yet. Now, I can be alive for a very long time.😄😆😀
This has to be one of the best videos related to City Pop!
You really killed it! I never thought of doing transitions using a K7 player like you did, that's genius!
More views for this DJ masterpiece. The way you did the transitions adds so much to these songs nostalgia factor. Seeing you enjoy the music really is infectious.
Honestly looking for how to save this video in case it is removed. Anyone got any idea... There is so much software for this.
You can find it on VK: vk.com/video-95990308_456239130
This has been my go-to City Pop playlist since I discovered it.
Dude your setup is incredible and in all honesty it’s nice to see someone else with so much passion for city pop thank you bro
this video deserves the best tribute of city pop of all times. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work, this is an historical contribution!
I just want to say thank you for taking the time to produce this. It will keep me happy for many hours. Its a crime you don't have more subs, but for those of us that have heard it your effort is very much appreciated.
One of the best videos I’ve seen on UA-cam. Great job!
