Try to talk yourself out of self depricating humor, seriously. Even if lighthearted, your brain starts to believe it and turn it into a cycle as time goes by and have you develop actual anxiety unless you actively do things to counteract that. So if you're saying you're ugly, you better be playing around with colours and styles you like and complimenting yourself and accepting compliments from others. Try replacing self depricating humor with sarcastic compliments or what feels like exaggerated claims of yourself.
You are beautiful💖 And remember, Koreans don't fit the beauty standards of other countries either. A Korean could move to the US and develop a complex about being too skinny and not curvy enough. Korean idols aren't the absolute world gold standard of beauty, they're just one version of it. There are many, many, different versions of beautiful. We're all beautiful in our own way.
Same, leaving Korea I felt so insecure about everything. Beforehand I felt decent but I noticed everything was like a competition in Korea. Like for a game, they would pick who was more beautiful looking out of you and your peers and guess who never won? xD Me. I quickly learned I wasn't the standard of beauty there because ppl would directly say so and while out with friends ppl (guys) never approached me but my friends instead. Only the Ahjumma's called me pretty. xD It's interesting how things like this differ with each country, when I went to Japan the same year it was the complete opposite. I felt really well received there and the same friend group who traveled with me even noticed. They also became insecure in Japan for the same reason and there were many clear instances where I was being treated better. That to me is really interesting how standards differ in each country. I swear being abroad messes with you mentally because you don't know where you stand looks-wise.
@Sevinch Tuychiyeva I think having a strong sense of self-worth, good group of friends, and understanding how you feel about yourself is more important. I know that's usually not the reality of things because your environment shapes your mentality after a while..but working on yourself mentally before you go helps. You know what to expect and have coping strategies. People commenting on your looks happens about 2 out of 10 times, so it's not an overwhelming experience. I think once there, you'd do fine. :) My feelings are hurt from going but I'd still go again. lol!

@@rokko_fable I really love hearing about other's experiences abroad. I lived in Korea for 3 years and Japan for 1 year and then again to visit briefly. I actually felt that it was easier to befriend Koreans but at the same time, the friendships that I experienced in Japan felt more genuine. I can agree with the dating scene in Korea - forget it. lol! It makes me happy to know that foreigners are not held to the same standard. You explained it well! I agree the message of changing yourself even if it's not directed at you exactly is hurtful. I have muscular thighs too. A lot of my friends have skinny legs so even though I haven't been to Korea, I felt ugly compared to my friends.
Just wanted to tell you that you shouldn’t feel ugly, because there’s more to beauty than being skinny. I personally think that no matter what body type you are, you’re beautiful. Xxx
Lookism is why i want to leave korea even though i'm korean... When I was in middle school, I could see a lot of boys who openly told girls they were ugly or sexual things From elementary school to college, men always played "the ideal type World Cup game". What's "the ideal type World cup game"? It's a game that the boys list the girls in the same class in order and pick the prettiest girl. I have always been through this every year when the grade went up So I don't want many foreigners to fantasize about Korean men through K-pop or K-dramas....
As a Korean, I can't really relate to this guy lol. Do you act like that at a time when feminism is at its peak in Korea? I bet foreigners will be really surprised to see Korean men taking care of Korean women.
Sadly the UK and other western cultures im assuming aren’t ideal either, maybe not quite to the same extreme. I was definetly treated poorly compared to some other girls because I wasn’t seen as pretty (a boy told me to jump off a cliff after he found out I liked him😂). Theres been similar things were online people were rated hot or not that trended a few years back. Tho I would say this only happens at ages 11-16 in the uk.
Well, they can't expect you to look like an asian... you have your own vibe, so don't change it because of racist comments. An original girl is always better.
@@christiauna1 that's also true...but if they are outright making fun of her that can discourage her from having a good time there. Happened to me before, I went somewhere outside of America and I couldn't enjoy myself as much as I wanted to because the tour guides and such were racist and refused to cooperate with me and even said I should go back to Africa... I just don't want anyone to have their vacation ruined for such reasons...
As a Korean, I agree that we have such a high beauty standards, but I also think the real problem is that the people that care ‘a lot’ about their looks tend to judge people who don’t care much about their appearance or the ones who don’t fit into the ‘beauty standards’. This has something to do with Korean culture regarding to the communication(which is not Always bad), because compared to other countries, I think Korean people have less hesitation about giving comments or criticism on others’ appearance. But it feels so dirty when people assume your abilities and even personalities JUST by how you look like and they don’t even bother to hide it, treating you like a sh*t. I’m not even kidding, like I know that I look completely normal bc I’ve lived in many other countries experiencing varieties of beauty standards all over the world, cultures and I’ve never had so much criticism and judgements on my appearance and fashion than in Korea. I think it’s more like a problem of a ‘respect’. It’s getting better and better as the generation is changing, but Koran people still(especially the old ones) lack it. People can have their own standards, and their beauty standards could be strict and high. This could be a cultural difference, and I see no big problems in it. You do you. But no one should EVER force their own standards or judge without knowing others. I hope humanity grows soon in this country. (BTW I personally think you’re beautiful bye!!)
Because you are korean and because i am really curious , i am asking this. And I would like an answer ,please.I like BTS a lot. And I think all of them are exceptional looking, really.I am an indian. And we have all types of skin types and shapes.Even we have people in North east India with standard South East asian look. Though India is a diverse country,my personal view is in India, someone like Jungkook will be called great looking. He has big eyes and sharp features and a great jawbone. He would be a jawdroppingly good looking man in India. But in korean media channels, even BTS members themselves always say he has a good body but never outright admire his looks as compared to V or Jin. Is it because Jungkook's facial features doesn't meet korean beauty standard. Also because, watching from videos he never seems to acknowledge he is good looking. Is it because of that?
This is so true. I went to Korea (I’m Korean) for a vaca like I do every summer, and the time I went there, my mindset just changed so much. I don’t know why, wherever I went, I would see these plastic surgery board/ads outside, it made me feel self conscious about seeing beautiful people and comparing them to myself. I think it was scary. Korean beauty standards are so unrealistic and just not it. I actually remember trying to starve myself, thinking I was so fat. I lost weight but noticed downsides in my nutrition, etc. Looking back at it, seeing these perfect people with these unrealistic features made me envy them. Days later after I came back to the U.S., I noticed how toxic how the standards in Korea are. People can be constantly judged by their looks and body shapes. I really am not judging those who got cosmetic surgery, but I felt the Korean standards are creating masks. People constantly hide their faces because they don’t think they fit the standards or they think the don’t seem beautiful. Looking back, it was crazy. People seem to see your physical features more than your personality. Sounds cliche but it’s true.
Well, first thank you for sharing your experience, I’m thinking about moving to korea next year to do a business management’s bachelor and I’ve been wondering what it was like to be out of korean beauty’s standards. I mean as you said even though no one tell you you’re “ugly” your subconscient will make you understand it step by step so you have to be mentally strong and not to fall in this trap, doing diet, extra work-out etc.. Anyway, let me tell you that you’re soooo pretty and I’m so happy that you’re doing great now ;))
It's my first time here & my first reaction was wow she's pretty! I did not expect you to say I felt ugly you're very very beautiful & your body is pretty too you never noticed your shoulders or legs cause they were already beautiful I have tiny shoulders & I want to change that & that's how I looked for a way to but you don't have to that you're already perfect & elegant in your own shape
i’ve never been to korea but it’s on my bucket list. hearing about how you felt is understandable but self love is the best love. i’m glad you’re doing better and i’m totally going to subscribe to the other channel. you’re not alone and don’t forget you’re gorgeous, god made you the way you, unique, and there won’t ever be someone like you so dont feel like you’re ugly bc you’re not 🥺🤍
I literally cried watching this. You're such a kind soul with a very interesting mindset. I've been watching your videos from the very start and I feel so bad for having no idea about how you really felt. You are so beautiful & I'm so glad you can see it again. As a white person, I've been dealing with these insecurities for so long in my own country and this video made me think that I shouldn't. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Wish you the best!

I am Korean. In Korea, it is becoming more and more free from appearance. Many people are pointing out the problems of Lookism. I can feel that society is becoming more and more positive. And there are many Koreans who live without makeup, short cuts, and training clothes. Not everyone is obsessed with their appearance.

Thank you for posting this video. I needed to hear this because I find myself in that ditch of depression because I just simply think I am ugly compared to all the girls on K-Drama! I think you are stunning! There is so much more to a person than how they look. There is nothing more refreshing than someone who is authentic. Besides the fact that you have stunning eyes, and a beautiful smile. Your voice is gentle and soothing - it's comforting to listen to... and because you are open and vulnerable with your weaknesses and struggles - it is so easy to connect with you.... To me, that is the treasure God has placed in you! The ability to make others feel loved and accepted :) x
Your voice is so lovely, you really calm me down. Also you are BEAUTIFUL know that there's no one that feels completely happy with their bodies and there's also no one that fits completely on the beauty standards of any country.
You’re so beautiful tho wtffff, honestly tho I think the standards themselves are fine it’s just how much people are expected to conform to it that’s the biggest problem if that makes sense
well I was born and raised in Iran, a country which has the same standards as Korea. Our city Tehran, was named as the capital of plastic surgeries( you can look it up) and as a young lady, I SUFFERED a lot growing up, before I got my nose done. I mean, I was okay with my nose, I told myself that its fine and I'm okay with it, but growing up, bullying started. I wasn't OKAY with people judging me by how my nose looks and being called ugly ALL THE TIME! So I got it done and now i dont regret it, but this kind of culture, kills souls. I felt that
If you watch how the current korean beauty standard came to be. You will know it's all plastic surgery and white skin. And dark and tan skin is considered more ugly and if your face and body fits the standard than you wil be view as exotic or sexy. And she's living their and probably want to start a life their
@@vd7937 those skin colour standards mainly only apply to koreans / asians. If you’re african american they OBVIOUSLY don’t expect you to have pale white skin. @wow wow The more you know. But what i was talking about is the history of how the Korean beauty standards came to be, they aren't really 'korean' natural features. Hi I'm just watching your video right now, I'm an Asian ( Philippines) I experienced the same thing as you had. You know at first I was really conscious about myself starting then, but later on I moved on. Yes it's really uneasy and i feel uncomfortable of people around, I always go alone, living alone and no one to talk to. Until such time I realized, that every people is different in every aspects and I'm different too. We are unique, if we can't accept ourselves as what people shows around, then who will. We need self love and acceptance to grow. Stay positive, nevermind of those nega people around. Be yourself because we are beautiful in our own way. As you said every country, every people have different standard. It's our life, do anything to be happy, life is too short to be sad.
beauty standards change every season... and always remember that everyone is beautiful in their own way ! just imagine that everyone will look the same? Boring right?
You look so beautiful dear😍😍...our society makes us accept only a certain perspective as beautiful but when you actually drop that...you find that everybody and everything has beauty in it.
I think you exude confidence and you know you're pretty. Having said that, there will always be someone more beautiful, more this more that, but shouldn't affect your life unless you let it. We can admire beauty in others without wanting to be them. Of course with celebrities and mass media beautiful men and women are ever present.
you're beautiful though, it sucks that living in one place for so long can skew the way you see yourself but im happy you're out of that environment and that you shared this experience with us 😘💕

Sorry for the experience but I'm sure now u know ur even more worthy and now u appreciate urslef and ur body more. Just wanted to say what I felt by heart. Good luck! :)
You are actually really beautiful. Honestly, I think it comes down to individual preferences as well. I’m sure many people found you attractive and were too shy to approach:)
Who knows the real standard!!I am just wondering we are so different, who knows that this shape is the ideal shape, simply you can't compare apples with flowers... Also want to say your voice is so comforting and your way of talking is very relieving..
Thankfully you got through all of that hardship. I'm glad you BECAME wise to the different beauty standards, but I only loved myself at around 30yrs old and now know that I made the right decision for myself, and I'm so happy that I chose to Age gracefully. I understand how things, especially someone's opinion can affect me. I had someone tell me what they liked, Which was of course Botox and fillers, not what I want or ever wanted. Its so rude, I never THOUGHT that I'd EVER hear of Australians saying, "oh wow you need Botox", yet if I go out with my "friend's" the First thing that comes up, is when is everyone going for Botox as we want that discount!🤬 They're no longer my friends lol. I wonder why. I'm so happy that you love yourself, as your absolutely gorgeous and don't LET anyone tell you any different. 💖
I'm not korean I'm not live in Korea but since I got in March into K-Pop I lost my confidence, but actually I need live in house in mountains with out internet to not see all these beautiful people and compare myself, it's only idea what I have, it's impossible so I just suffer.
No need to fit in these beauty standards... whoever is reading this ....I just wanna tell you that you r beautiful...you r enough 💫✨ we are not born ugly...we are just born in a judgemental society 💜
Everyone is beautiful in their own way. No one has any right to comment or insult others on their looks. Be happy however you look. If we start loving ourselves no one will say anything to us. And even if they say. We don't give a damnn😂
Why does it matter if your ugly in Korea or not? Everyone is going to have a type...only thing that matters is loving and embracing yourself. Just like in America there’s toxic beauty standards.
hey ! just wanted to say you are so beautiful. there's nothing wrong with your nose or your jaw . and your face is so cute. so don't let the media and the excssive marketed ideas get in your head . remember plastic surguries is a business and like any other business they will try to develop it even if it hurts other people ( emotionally) .also remember you're a human being and it's only normal to gain weight and lose weight from time to time , it's okay to wanna be healthy and better but don't push yourself too much it's not worth it. what is more important is to be confortable in your own skin and feel good about yourself .don't starve yourself and explore different and new recipies . eating healthy doesn't mean starving or depriving yourself. love u beautiful xo
I've lived there also and I understood your experience. One thing I want to point out, many foreigners choose to blend with Korean by wearing Korean fashion or putting on Korean make-up, and Somehow it is also unconsciously to try Korean makeup because Sogang, Sincheon, and Ewha area are full of makeup stores. Anyway, if we don't fit any beauty standard, we can claim our beauty with our own standard. Hwasa from Mamamoo bravely talked about that in a concert.
Hi I am Samriddhi from India in india no one think about your look they always think about a good hearted person so in India don't care about your looks you are a good hearted person so you still look beautiful
Its been a long time since i been to south korea. 2009 i just graduated high school and going to south korea was my graduation gift. I went with a good friend and stayed with her and her family. First day out we got stopped by a "businees man" scouting people and he gave us his card... oh course we know better and walked into a local store near by. We stayed in korea for 3 months or so. But my experience was "looks" were high in korea. At this time "ulzzangs" were in. I always thought i was pretty decent but nothing more. I am asian american, i do big eyes, pale skin, double eyelid the standard of what koreans want. I got alot of compliments. I have noticed in korea if you look good you get special treatments like free stuff, special offers etc. Anyone watch 2PM reality tv show back than? The episode where nich khun got free food? Yeah like that...😅 i got mad eye stares from high school girls, also got a lot of "oh wow" stares from young guys. I am not gloating i am just telling my experience but even though koreans are shy they arnt shy when it comes to beauty standards. But being in korea it did make me feel like i always had to look nice, always had to wear makeup. There were days when i would literally wear sunglasses and mask but i would get more stares. I never had a bad experience in korea it was all good. But yes i felt you girl always feeling like you had to look like someone or look good. Suicide rates are high in korea because of it. Anyone wanting to go to korea i say DO IT at least once. Its SO fun! People are nice especially to foreigners 😁 food is to die for. You can literally walk everywhere and night time is beautiful especially by han river. Can even maybe catch a celebrity lol. But go for the experience not how you should look. Korea is a must go.
What you are as a soul, your talents, your deeds, your way of living matters the most.....any beauty standard you follow must not be forced thing on you.... Just bcoz it's trendy/demanded/or somebody else wants us to look that way we mustn't change ourselves for this fact.... Everyone must love themselves and embrace the flaws they have coz that is what makes us unique and that's the real beauty.... Be confident and happy.... Be healthy and keep smiling✨
I appreciate how you're telling your experience honestly 😊.and your thinking wow....👏and yeah it's true every country has it's beauty. I loved everything what you said .

These boys mentality 🤦♀️
@Malliga Auegez Pandian I wasn't addressing you but cool I'm also a girl do you like BTS?
@Go - haPpy -Life who tf are you 🙄
I'm dark skin african I'm kinda scared to go there, can't imagine the stereotypical thoughts they have about me 😣
Yea... I say don't go or go with a friend who is also Korean but speaks both English and Korean. They are definitely going to be racist.
Well, they can't expect you to look like an asian... you have your own vibe, so don't change it because of racist comments. An original girl is always better.
Who cares about what they think just go
@@christiauna1 that's also true...but if they are outright making fun of her that can discourage her from having a good time there. Happened to me before, I went somewhere outside of America and I couldn't enjoy myself as much as I wanted to because the tour guides and such were racist and refused to cooperate with me and even said I should go back to Africa... I just don't want anyone to have their vacation ruined for such reasons...
The Korean guys are picky with looks they only interested in Russian women and Korean women and white women they only want those it's TRUE
I promise I am going to love myself most in 2021....
Let's do it together happy new year ☺ ☺ ☺...

@@hoothootgutgutpooftim2378 Jungkook is also very handsome in Korea. It's because of Jungkook's very humble personality.
Dont compare yourself with other because you have your own beauty and you deserve better....fighting bestie💓
@@dinasofyea92 tysm I really couldn't help myself comparing each of my flaw with the beauty standards

Anyway, let me tell you that you’re soooo pretty and I’m so happy that you’re doing great now ;))
You're moving to korea!? Thats amazing....but yeah if you avoid falling into the trap, you'll have an unforgettable time there :)
If I’m taken to Solbridge then yees !! I hope so !
I’ve been following your advices about korean apps and how to learn it !

Don't change yourself change your way of feeling about u.Love yourself pls...
i’ve never been to korea but it’s on my bucket list. hearing about how you felt is understandable but self love is the best love. i’m glad you’re doing better and i’m totally going to subscribe to the other channel. you’re not alone and don’t forget you’re gorgeous, god made you the way you, unique, and there won’t ever be someone like you so dont feel like you’re ugly bc you’re not 🥺🤍
Everyone is beautiful 🤲🏾😍😍
I literally cried watching this. You're such a kind soul with a very interesting mindset. I've been watching your videos from the very start and I feel so bad for having no idea about how you really felt. You are so beautiful & I'm so glad you can see it again. As a white person, I've been dealing with these insecurities for so long in my own country and this video made me think that I shouldn't. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Wish you the best!
This makes so much sense, I’m glad you said this, their standards shouldn’t apply us. Plus you’re stunning, definitely pretty. 🥰
This felt like a holiday conversation with family. CooL vlog
Korean beauty standard is really wierd..a pretty person is always a pretty person..nobody is gonna check if she has an ideal face blah blah..!!!it's a wrong theory bro
haha yeah......
@@kalilowe I mean they find plastic surgery face beautiful and perfect compared to natural face... I think cake face with plastic is trending... but girl don't get it to your heart your beautiful the way you are..
Girl! u are beautiful and unique 💖💖
@wow wow I'm not personally targeting anyone or only korean women I'm just saying people are to Judgemental to hurt other's.. also let me clear I have Zero Issues with there plastic surgery I only include this point cause I saw somewhere how they make other's to got through mental state they feel need to change themselves and have plastic surgery cause they start to feel themselves ugly ... otherwise it's there life , there choice everyone is beautiful in own ways no need to criticize or be harsh on someone just cause they're different them you... that's all and I only added plastic surgery point cause I heard they do that alot so my point is people much prefer plastic surgery faces their find them beautiful instead of natural face..
@wow wow don't take it personally I'm not targeting anyone or trying to be harsh I'm just trying to make my point clear otherwise they have Rights to do whatever they want with there bodies we have no rights to judge or Criticize them as long as they don't Criticize or harm other's with harsh treatment
I am Korean. In Korea, it is becoming more and more free from appearance. Many people are pointing out the problems of Lookism.
I can feel that society is becoming more and more positive.
And the average Korean and K-pop idol are separate. There is no need to evaluate you according to celebrities. They all have their own charms.
And there are many Koreans who live without makeup, short cuts, and training clothes. Not everyone is obsessed with their appearance.
Really happy to hear koreans are being positive regard this
Extreme lookism already existed in Korea even way before the kpop comes to western countries
@@YJ_is_YJ It exists till date
Wonder why k-pop rookies who are coming day by day are so good looking. Companies do many things behind walls. We would never know.
Whatever I still believe that they are racist cuz my sister is also facing hate over there duh!
I think appearanceism is the main reason for developing the k beauty industry. Of course, it is not always right to judge others by their appearance.
I actually didn't like my nose when i was young! I didn't accept it when i was a teen, but now i embrace it💜 i'm so proud of how GOD created me! I realized that my nose is a part of me, of my family herritage that reminds me with my grandma who passed away in march💔 accept yourself and love yourself😍
this topic is oneof the main things why i"d never stay in Korea for a long time or not like a tourist :c that's very sad tbh. beauty standards are an absolutely normal thing but it's horrible when they make people to fit them...
Koreans itself don't fit the beauty standards of other countries .here in U.S most of them being neglected when it comes tto beauty.
Exactly, because they all say “have narrow heads” but most of them have box heads
tbh, they don't born with their beauty standarts too.
That's why all of them undergo plastic surgery,
asians are not generally born with white skin, big eyes nor colored hair and eyes.
So nobody has to judge anyone. It would be like saying "why don't you have money?" lol
@@bayangintokii4774 I am Asian myself i am Indian and i don't heard people saying they are pretty. its kpop which made people think they all look like anime character. but here people still choose tan asian over pale.

💕💕💕 you are so pretty!!
I felt that
Oh yeah right I’m from Iran too... and my nose is really big it makes me uncomfortable...
You're so pretty 😭❤️😍
I’ve never been to korea and I hope to go soon but thanks for the heads up. You’re beautiful 😍
I don’t think you can compare yourself to korean beauty standards when you’re not korean. I mean it just doesn’t work like that.
The thing is any face that isn’t east asian is inherently different to their beauty standards so its not applicable. There are different standards for different races
This has nothing to do with ur comment but Felix's freckles saved my life too
@wow wow The more you know. But what i was talking about is the history of how the Korean beauty standards came to be, they aren't really 'korean' natural features. Pale skin was associated with wealth and tan skin with poverty. Some of them wil discriminate against people with a dark skin completion.
@@felixsfrecklessavedmylife9173 "*For every country", colorisme is a thing in african and caribbean countries/islands where it's predominantly black. So they (koreans) don't expect you to have pale skin, but kids still point out to there friends with darker skin completion about their skin color. And if you watch tv shows, a person with a white or pale skin will be associated more with the words angelic/beautiful/stunning etc. than a dark skin person. I live in a predominantly black island and when i was a child i got more compliments about my skintone when i was getting rid of my pimples by applying toothpaste (don't imitate) that lead my skin to get lighter.
I love your voice 🤩 it’s so soft
I think you exude confidence and you know you're pretty. Having said that, there will always be someone more beautiful, more this more that, but shouldn't affect your life unless you let it. We can admire beauty in others without wanting to be them. Of course with celebrities and mass media beautiful men and women are ever present.
You are beautiful because you are confident to share your feelings with us. Love your confidence.

And here am thinking your skin is so glowing

No need to fit in these beauty standards... whoever is reading this ....I just wanna tell you that you r beautiful...you r enough 💫✨ we are not born ugly...we are just born in a judgemental society 💜
Everyone is beautiful in their own way. No one has any right to comment or insult others on their looks. Be happy however you look. If we start loving ourselves no one will say anything to us. And even if they say. We don't give a damnn😂

Why does it matter if your ugly in Korea or not? Everyone is going to have a type...only thing that matters is loving and embracing yourself. Just like in America there’s toxic beauty standards.
idk the first thing i thought when i saw you was "omg she is beautiful" soooo you are beautiful haha and you also have a calming voice
hey ! just wanted to say you are so beautiful. there's nothing wrong with your nose or your jaw . and your face is so cute. so don't let the media and the excssive marketed ideas get in your head . remember plastic surguries is a business and like any other business they will try to develop it even if it hurts other people ( emotionally) .also remember you're a human being and it's only normal to gain weight and lose weight from time to time , it's okay to wanna be healthy and better but don't push yourself too much it's not worth it. what is more important is to be confortable in your own skin and feel good about yourself .don't starve yourself and explore different and new recipies . eating healthy doesn't mean starving or depriving yourself. love u beautiful xo
Hi I am Samriddhi from India in india no one think about your look they always think about a good hearted person
so in India don't care about your looks you are a good hearted person so you still look beautiful
You are not ugly.we all are beautiful in our own way.so be happy🤗🤗
