Ohtani leaving because he doesnt want to play with trout cuz he's injured all the time is one of the dumbest statements i've heard. One of the big reasons Ohtani chose the Angels in the first place was because he wanted to play with Trout. Ohtani offered the Angels the same contract he gave the Dodgers, and Arte didnt want to do it. If you're going to speak, at least have some type of knowledge about it.
Nothing was wrong with that commentary about Trout. He's been hurt EVERY year since he's been an angel. Folks need to quit being so darn sensitive

@@JCool123 Yeah obviously it's not as physically demanding as those sports, but Center Fielders which is what Trout has been 99% of his career, always have to cover more ground than anyone not to mention the dives, running into walls and all things that happen on the base paths there are gruesome injuries from Robin Ventura and Moises Aloes busted ankles to Stanton and Dawson faces getting destroyed by fastballs, SAS just cant help putting his foot in his mouth.

What did Steven A. even say to provoke Papelbon like that? He said not one word about Papelbon at all, and what exactly did he say about Mike Trout that was wrong?
He was saying what is Mike Trout doing to take care of yourself? Always injured damn it's Baseball - It's not NFL, UFC or Boxing, Basically how you tore your meniscus playing baseball all you doing is playing the outfield chewing on pumpkin seeds that why Papelbon got upset because he disrespected the sport.

The clip is easy to find. He questioned what Trout is or isn't doing to remain on the field. His current injury is meniscus. Others have been thumb ligament sliding into 2nd, breaking a bone in his hand taking a swing, back inflammation and calf strain. The last two are the most preventable; but not 100%. He also brought up he plays baseball, like it's a desk job. Trout plays CF and clearly throws his body around. Injuries are only going to become more frequent unless he becomes a DH. I think SAS playing down the grind of playing baseball caused Papelbon to snap.
I've seen steven criticize thousands of people over the years, did they "provoke" him into criticizing them? No, LOL it's called color commentary, aka, melodramatic trash talk. Like it or not, that's the way the commentary industry is now, in large part thanks to people like steven.

Stephen A Smith does talk down white stars or coaches whenever he can though.
I'll give my worthless opinion... Bad initial take by SAS but reasonable and not mean spirited, then a former semi-star now irrelevant pitcher takes issue with it and lobs a heated argument that spirals beyond sports commentating into the race/political world. SAS then responds perfectly and kills the issue.
Not even a big fan of SAS but he handled this perfectly. Sure, the guy can be annoying and does a lot of things for ratings (seeing him with the cowboy's hat on last season was jumping the shark imo) but he seems to speak his actual mind more than most and isn't afraid of the consequences. I really respect the guy, I just wish his he had better takes on sports.
