[Verse 1] When the day is done Down to earth, then, sinks the sun Along with everything that was lost and won When the day is done [Verse 2] When the day is done Hope so much your race will be all run Then you find you jumped the gun Have to go back where you began When the day is done [Verse 3] When the night is cold Some get by but some get old Just to show life's not made of gold When the night is cold [Verse 4] When the bird has flown Got no one to call your own Got no place to call your home When the bird has flown
John Grant es de mis cantantes favoritos. Tanto con the Czars como en solitario tiene una discografía inmaculada. Siempre había escuchado mencionar la excelencia de Nick Drake pero no había puesto atención hasta esta colaboración. Me encantó
I had the same thought. Walter/Wendy Carlos right? I believe it's 'Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary' by Henry Purcell. As an aside, I'd say it's very likely that Nick Drake actually saw the film when it came out in 1971. I wonder if John Grant worked that likelihood in to this arrangement. It's certainly very striking.
@@apc108 Indeed! I meant that of Wendy Carlos' work. Besides, I didn't know about "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary"! Thank you very much for pointing it out. It's certainly possible Nick watched the film, although I cannot imagine of him having a good time due to his hipersensitivity.
Music is very reminiscent of the soundtrack to Kubrick's 'Clockwork Orange', not something that immediately comes to mind alongside Nick Drake. Has a disquieting feel to it.
An honourable, respectful and even adventurous rendition, but for me using synths to replicate orchestra just says "we didn't have the budget". Which may be true but i'd rather have heard, say, piano and vibes. And I must say all these vids have excellent imagery.
I've heard a lot of Nick Drake covers. This is one of the best.
There is something hauntingly beautiful about this.
Everything is haunting and beautiful about Nick Drake 😊
Goosebumps! One of my favourite contemporary voices - great job.
[Verse 1]
When the day is done
Down to earth, then, sinks the sun
Along with everything that was lost and won
When the day is done
[Verse 2]
When the day is done
Hope so much your race will be all run
Then you find you jumped the gun
Have to go back where you began
When the day is done
[Verse 3]
When the night is cold
Some get by but some get old
Just to show life's not made of gold
When the night is cold
[Verse 4]
When the bird has flown
Got no one to call your own
Got no place to call your home
When the bird has flown
Pure Genius
Wonderful. Most covers are truly pointless. This is worth every second. Feels like Vangelis channeling Nick vis John. Superb.
This version is stunning!
Beautiful rendition
Such a hauntingly beautiful version. Often covers are disappointing. This is a treasure.
You can sense the sheer respect that John has for Nick. Individually John but honoring Nick. Such a thoughtful version.

Thank you ... Awesome
This is absolutely beautiful
As good as the original … Even more original !! I love both versions
This sounds interesting! It reminds me of "A Clockwork Orange" theme

'Lost much sooner than you were found'......describes Nick and his talent.🌹
This is a great interpretation of the song the backing synth reminds me of the clockwork orange film and there's also the Elton John period cover.
Woo the deep synth vibes 🖤
What a mysteriös,beautyful Version, i love it
Just brilliant…..This will soundtrack a slow-mo sequence in a movie before too long….. can’t wait for the full album release

Oof. Yeah, you do.
Lindo!
isso tá maravilhoso!
Nick Drake met Klaus Nomi in Heaven. John Grant recorded the event.

..wwoww!!!! ... I love a track that takes its time but then totally rewards you with the ever increasing goosebumps... !
....hotel california
great invisible poet.
no one is able to do his pieces and do him justice
So different from Nick's, but still so beautiful!
Thats what coverversions mend to be
Reminds me of Jacques Brel mixed with Anathema
Great version but Nick sings “when the part is through” not when the party’s through.

Ewig, himmlisch ...
