  • A little tour of the 'touristy' bit of Maryport. Excuse my lack of proper local knowledge. I've only lived here for two years. If there's anything I missed, feel free to comment about it below and maybe I will remake this video when I get better at it and work out how to get rid of the wind!
I decided to make this video because I lives 15 minutes away for ten years and never realised how nice the place was, so here's my way of bigging the place up. It's a shame the tide was right in so we couldn't see the beach but it made the harbour look pretty good.

I recently stumbled on Maryport via Rightmove and Google Maps and I was very surprised, It looks a lovely, slightly "old fashioned" place with a lot of handsome Georgian houses. I'm looking forward to visiting after the latest lockdown is over. (And Whitehaven down the coast looks very nice too, although that's a bit off topic).

What a great video thanks. I am looking to retire by the coast and Maryport is top of my list at the moment. Its a real place and the regenartaion of the harbour has added a lot. I love that it is steeped in history too. You have given me some great gems of information that adds to my opinion of Maryport. The cliff walk to Senhouse then down to the promenade and back was delightful coming back to the pretty part of the harbour.Next visit I will have to try that fish and chip shop :)

I'm glad you found it useful. I live the history as well and have been tempted to make a history video when I get a chance :)

@@GuyGoesPlaces That would be brill :) There is soo much about Maryport . My ancestry is rooted here my dads side between Annan and Barrow with a great great grandad living in Harrington as a trader in drapery .He later became a master tailor . Mums side was centred around Troutbeck and Windermere mainly farmers and as librarian I have been lucky to trace quite a way back with both. Somehow both my parents gravitated to Blackpool . I love it but prefer quieter more natural places. So yes please a history vid would be great ...:):) I saw that Maryport got a chunk of the high street bidding too so as you said things are happening in the area. Thats good news.

Great video Guy, thank you for sharing it. Do you know where the new cafe and skate part are going on the promenade? I heard the old toilet block that's been knocked down, but don't know where that is. Thanks!

My husband and I want to move to Cumbria, for a quieter pace of life, and later our retirement, and after watching your video, we have put Maryport down as a potential. Is there any area in Maryport where you think we should avoid, in terms of looking at housing? We want to live near the coast and near the national park, we have looked at Whitehaven and Egremont as well. I guess as we’re from the SW we don’t have the blinkers locals would have. So we can see it with fresh eyes ,and compare it to what we have. We want quiet, we don’t care about hustle and bustle. We don’t need tons of shops, so again we’re not worried about somewhere that’s got tons of shopping, like some people would. Not worried about a nightlife as it’s not really our thing. Although of course nice to have a nice pub to occasionally goto and maybe join a quiz night or something. Just want a nice area in terms of nice neighbours. Also like the idea of a community feel.

I've only been here a couple of years but could tell you I'd love to have a house around Fleming Square or Camp Road. There are some beautiful houses up there, all within strolling distance of the town centre. There isn't much 'nightlife' anyway. It's all about the pubs here. If you ever need advice from some of the older locals try 'Maryport past and present' on Facebook.
