It used to be the first FS was charged to the field- with no consequence- but the men especially liked to use it to try and mess with opponents. The IAAF, USATF, NCAA and NFHS decided to put a stop to such rubbish. Now, you jump the start and you’re gone- as you should be.

Womens voices are higher and are picked up by track side microphones. Mens voices are deeper and can't be heard.
