Couple of points: 1. never put dimensions inside of parts. 2. dimensioning the wall thickness creates a double dimension (place thickness of ID in parentheses). 3. dimension and tolerance should have the same number of decimal places. FYI I've been designing and drafting for 50+ years so I do have a little experience :-)

I really enjoy your videos. They help me a lot to figure out Fusion 360. With that being said, I work full time as an mechanical engineer with machining drawings and to dimension these prints accurately, one really needs to familiarize themselves with ANSI. A few things to note right off: - The thickness measurement is fine, but it is now a reference. This is denoted by ( ) around the dimension. - I would have deleted the bottom most section because it is repetitive. You can get all the info you need from your Section BB. - The radius TYP thing is confusing on your drawing. You need to clear that up to the 'machinist' - We do NOT use periods (.) after anything, I think it just adds confusion. So 0.1 RAD TYP or 0.1R TYP is better, IMO. Anyway, ANSI is a rabbit hole by itself that one can spend many hours on learning. I am not a pro myself. Thanks again for helping me understand the mechanics behind creating a 2D dwg!
It is easy and deceptive to work on such a simple part having little details. In Fusion 360 when you try to get technical drawing of a rather complex part it is almost impossible to locate dimensions to place where you want, width sizes of texts and dimension arrows are not configurable. It is impossible to get a drawing without overlapping of dimensions. I do not even mention that the drawing is not able to update itself according to changes in the model. Technical drawing of Fusion 360 has lots of gaps which should be improved.
One caveat with 2D drawings in Autodesk Fusion 360, is that it gets confusing with the lines of the actual model and the lines used for dimensioning. I always end up exporting the PDF, from Fusion 360 to Adobe illustrator, to give the dimension lines a different color, a shade of grey. This makes the black lines of the model prominent, creating less confusion. Again, thank you very much for the video, I did learn quite a few new things.

Good morning ( in the Netherlands) Lars first of all, many many thanks for the great tutorials you create. As a retired maintenance manager I am new to the Fusion 360 community. And I have a question; is it possible to have more than one component or body, detailed with dimensions in the 2D drawing?
Yes I taught 25 years of paper/pencil drafting. Line thickness still counts. In sectioning, one should not draw section lines parallel to object lines. Can you change the angle of section lines. In my previous post I asked, can you scale the section pattern for the size of the part drawn? If not the section lines will be lost on small parts. My CAD program allows me to change these.
Hi Larry Hoelscher Thank you for watching! Yes, I know that the development team are aware that the drawings module needs some more features...I am sure they are working as fast as possible. BEst, Lars
Hi Lars, Very good and helpful videos, thanks! One question ? In detail A , how to dimension 60 deg. angle ( 6 pcs) ? Hi jani jokivirta Thank you for watching! That is a very good question! I will have to reach out to someone on the product side and see what they have to say. BEst, Lars
Hi Lars. thank you for the video. Could you advise, please: you have only one body in your project, what if you have many bodies and want to create drawings for all of them, not as assembly but as separate parts, i.e. three parts => three drawings, one drawing contains one part. How to do it in the most time efficient way?
I'm new to this, but what I've learned is you will have to create separate components from the bodies. Then you can create separate drawings of each component.
it would be really great if we could import and use the sketch / body dimension data instead of rewriting the dimensions for the whole print. Many times the dimension tool is no where near accurate enough even when I have several decimal places selected (god help you if you have small chamfers / filet etc. . Drawing tools need improvements... as of October 2018.....
Is there an easier way to flatten an image on its axis. I have a flat piece of glass but after importing is skewed the way it would be in the actual project. I need to make a drawing of the glass and its rotation is off. Is there a way to get the flat pane to snap to the grid or adjust the grid to meet up with the flat surface?
Hey Lars , Great video once again. I have a question that's confusing me and cant find how to fix it. In my drawing view I'm measuring a circles diameter and its suppose to be .125 based off my model, but it keeps giving me .130. Any idea why this is giving me a wrong dimension? Might be a little late but what I learned when I took a course about this was: Make a drawing of each seperate part of your thing for instance your thing is a bar with a wheel on it assembled with a bolt and nut. Make a drawing first on the bar, then the wheel, and finally an "assembly" drawing describing how you combine the two parts. Here most people also add a BOM (Bill Of Materials) with a reference number/name to the technical drawings of each part. I hope I am not too late and that this made some sense, and that it also answered your questions :)
Hello. Imagine you have to make a lathe part, with many diameters and lengths. How can we have a drawing of a section view with shortened diameter dimmensions?. Like a large ring part with multiple features.

Not sure if you can scale in drawings but you can scale different bodies in the modelling stage
Of course you can 1:1. 1:2. 1:3. Etc
Can you use Fusion 360 to JUST create a 2D drawing, without having previously built a 3D model?
Hi Roger Garrett Thank you for watching!
Naaa, I would look at Autocad for that workflow. Autocad is awesome for that kind of stuff
Question, can you create a custom paper size for the drawing? If so how?
Hi Sotm Thank you for watching!
That is not supported yet. Hope it will be soon.

How can I create dimensional tolerance in 2D drawings? Thank you
I have drawn a sheet metal cone 970x500x300x5mm that I need help with ... I will bend it in a bending press, as I do not have access to a roller bender. For the sake of convenience, the cut-out plate is divided into 2 halves. I will bend each part with 15 bendings, which together will be 180 degrees and then welded together. How do I prepare this in Fusion 360? Then each bending in degrees must be converted into press depth in mm, (ex 15 bendings at 8 ° = 180 ° translate bending with 8mm press depth = 180 ° round sheet cone and then welding together to be 360 ° Thanks for help..!!! //Håkan in Sweden
Hi Håkan Forsberg Thank you for watching!
I would draw it up with the 15 bends using the flange tool in the sheet metal environment. We don't have the function yet where we can convert a solid cone into a sheet metal part.
Hope this is useful.
Best,
Lars
Hi Lars ...
Some adjustments on the measure ... Sheet metal Cone is 970x500x300x5xmm yes ...
Must be bent in two separate parts, 2x180 ° and welded together. 1st part with 15 bending at 12° (15x12° = 180°) = welded together = 360° Thanks in advance .. !! , please show me a UA-cam movie so I can learn for the future ... (is a dedicated home mechanic in my Garage ..) //Håkan (tell me when the movie is ready to look at... ☺ )
when i try to dimension my part instead of .025 it rounds up to .03 how do i make the dimension stick to the original .025?
nevermind found it!!!

Hi pumpSHO Thank you for watching!
Glad you figured it out.
Best,
Lars
Lars Christensen no thank you for helping us all become better
I'm having the same problem and you link is no longer showing info. How did you fix you deminsion from not rounding up?
@@pumpSHO In my drawing view I'm measuring a circles diameter and its suppose to be .125 based off my model, but it keeps giving me .130. Any idea why this is giving me a wrong dimension? I'm measuring it in the front base view. How did you fix this?

Absolute noob here - how do you print to a laser printer?
Nice work Lars, thanks for sharing. Some of these features are not intuitive.
Hi Jody Olivent Thank you for watching!
Thanks Lars
Good teaching. Why are you not on-line any more? You are missed.
He said in one stream he got promoted and doesn't have the time anymore. I found Product Design Online which is a good channel.
@@onecarwood Thank you very much for the answer!!!
so just like cad, where i came from, but when you build a full project with things inside of things it becomes hard to detail it out.. any tips on that? wow just seen this is from 2017.. humm no replies I bet here.. time to find another video

Might be a little late but what I learned when I took a course about this was:
Make a drawing of each seperate part of your thing for instance your thing is a bar with a wheel on it assembled with a bolt and nut.
As far as I know, you can’t make shorten dimensions in Fusion. There might be a work around on UA-cam somewhere
@@cadcamstuff that is a little sad. Hole wizzard doesn't have NPT holes either
Thanks
You are so very welcome :-) Thank you for watching!
keep going men
how can I get your t-shirt?
i need also it look awesome
I would like to see how to put text on a curved surface
Hi Andrew Gilmour Thank you for watching!
I know wrap function is up on the idea station. There are a couple of work arounds that we could play with....I'll put it on the list :-)
loubee how would you make a drawing of the part when a 3D drawing of the part does not exist?
Hi Louis Bogdan Thank you for watching!
In the past, I have made the 3D model so I could make the drawing.
it is to damn big! I cannot fit a front and side view without printing over the title block! I need a low profile title block that does not consume 1/3 of the bottom of the page!
I would also like to edit the title block. Did you find a way to do it?
one baaaady ;)

anodising will remove material. not add.
Hi Mark's Engineering Thank you for watching!
It will add a thin layer, so from a machining standpoint you will have to make all your dimensions undersize to accommodate.
Hope you have an awesome day!
Best,
Lars
Where do get the Fusion 360 t-shirts?
Hi Vince Shanks Thank you for watching!
I normally get mine at tradeshows :-)
Thanks!
f*ck greating new drawing template not available on hobby comerial use version :( only for subscribe payd version thats very expensive for poeple like me to just drawing a square with 4 holes.
this fusion 360 is the least intuitive friendly cad I have ever had to suffer through
Taking so much wasted time to simply sketch and then send to a desktop printer is a disgrace
the whole 3d print so called option is a total waste
My 8 year old Solidworks is like a Rolls Royce compared to the Model T fusion 360
Typical AutoDesk ("all the programmers are on meth) software
How can I switch to landscape view? It will only show portrait view, when I create a new drawing from scratch.
