    Yes this can happen, especially if you drop it on a hard floor like concrete. Matthew Garrett’s ring sets are VERY sturdy and tend not to break so easily when dropped. It CAN happen though so best to take care of them!

    I picked up the Melero set, having done a large 6 ring routine for years. I agree the best open hands display looks great but is very angle sensitive. Your review has me interested in the Ninja plus set. One thing that also drew me to the Melero set was how slow and elegant most of the routine is demonstrated and taught, compared to other full speed ahead performances. I try to add or emulate some of the quiet smoothness of Richard Ross in parts.

    Nice overview.
    I think eventually an updated version of this that includes stuff like the Lion rings would be cool. Maybe as well more obscure sets like Raymond Long's The Rings set.
    Oh, and maybe as well micro/ ultra small linking ring sets, like Dragonfly rings (to this day my favorite close up set, even though they admittedly have questionable quality), Jay Sankey's 3 Ring Circus, McAbee Rings & El Duco's Close Up Rings.

      @@OBrienMagic I think this would be pretty cool, I have a cheap set by TCC to learn with and want a better set, I was looking at Melero and then I heard about the Lion ones so it would be cool to get a deep dive into some of the others.

    Hi! I've been trying to get my hands on some Ninja rings but can't find them. Any suggestions on another quality set? Looking for chrome

      The actual Ninja Rings by Shoot Ogawa are long out of stock. You may need to find them second hand. Matthew Garrett’s sets are also super high quality (IMO comparable to NR)
      I’d Recommend the GiR set by Matthew Garrett that I sell on my website. :) at obrienmagic.com
      Feel free to email me if you have more questions!

      @@OBrienMagic I like the psychology behind them because you’re doing your basic “ninja” moves and routine then SWITCH the method entirely on them! Haha it’s wonderful truly. Absolute fryer for laymen and possibly magicians. The only reason I got them was NOT just to “fool” people but to have even more interaction between me and the audience ;)

    Since you have been reviewing rings....
    I've always wondered about 10 inch linking rings that are locking?
    I learned on a set of Rings and Things standard set of 8 and am clueless when it comes to gaffed rings. Hopefully, you can educate us on this matter.

    • @OBrienMagic
      @OBrienMagic  Рік тому

      Great question! Typically a locking gaff set will work exactly the same way as your standard set with the difference being those moments when you open and close the key. I don’t see why you couldn’t incorporate a LKR into the routine you are already performing as long as you have the same number of rings!

      @@OBrienMagic here’s the thing. Since you do reviews, I was hoping that you could enlighten me / us on what rings are available for sale and what a set might include like is 8 the norm? Set of 4? I don’t think any other reviewers have covered this. Hope this helps you as well as your followers 👍👀

    I have the gold Messado rings and they have suffered some minor scratches, but otherwise hold up well. I have not used the Melero rings or GIR rings. Shoot's rings are better quality. I love Messado's routine the best though over the other routines.

    A much need video to help differentiate the subtleties between these sets. Thanks so much.
    With regards to GIR, I think I might be missing something because to me they appear more tangled than linked. Not sure how I feel about these.

    • @OBrienMagic
      @OBrienMagic  3 роки тому

      Well as you know it is impossible to link 2 actual solid rings lol. So GiR is a very close illusion tha allows you to “seemingly” (that is the key word) link solid rings together.

    Good video! I prefer slightly large rings (10" or 12" at the most). I also think the two best sets of rings I've ever had are from Proline and the rings made by Joe Porper. I wish someone would make smaller rings that have the same type of key rings as is available with Proline, and unfortunately, no longer available from Porper. A good 5"-7" ring, with the same kind of Key ring that Porper made would be ideal for me, but no one makes anything like that. Anyway, great video and, as always, educational!

    • @OBrienMagic
      @OBrienMagic  3 роки тому +2

      I asked Matthew why he didn’t want to make one like that and he said it would be extremely expensive and impractical in closeup. Because you would still see the point where the rings come together. The Porper set works well because they are stage rings and seen from a distance. The same method would not work closeup. I doubt you may ever see this in anything smaller than 5-6” rings.

      @@OBrienMagic Thanks for that! I am not surprised, but still a little puzzled as to why no one wants to make a ring like that. For me, it seems like concealing a Porper or Proline type ring that is small, would be no more difficult than hiding a regular Ninja rings gimmick. Oh well, I learn something new every time I watch your channel. Thanks again!
