    Fascinating to see a snapshot of life in Sac back then. A lot of what I love about it now applied then and glad a lot has been preserved.

    The "very gay crowd" from that 1950 night club scene is different from the gay crowd of 2018.

    It's a shame what urban renewal did to the city...

    • @kalidescopemind1
      @kalidescopemind1 4 роки тому +3

      Everyone moved to the suburbs and downtown decayed badly. It really needed renewal to pump money in.

    • @kbanghart
      @kbanghart 2 роки тому

      But also remember, actions were deliberately taken to remove people of color from certain areas and force them to move out. Very racist actions, in the name of renewal.

    1950s. On J street downtown: smells of cigar smoke, chew, alcohol, punctuated by bus exhaust. On a corner, a blind man would be playing an accordion with a collection cup, a legless old man (Veteran?) slid around on a board on caster wheels. Sometimes there would be an old man standing on a box lecturing about communism.

      +Ben T I see no racism in his/her comment. Just a pragmatic, minimally observant person that knows full well minorities and the deceitful media and anti-America body politic that supports and nurtures them, while they deconstruct the greatest and most freedom and prosperity-giving nation on Earth, will inevitably one day have to answer and atone for their misdeeds. Mandatory labor for shiftless, welfare-sucking millions sounds fair to me.

      harold land Your names harold so I’m guessing ur a white male
      Over 50.. so I already expect ur mind to be clouded by traditional white supremaced culture.
      It was only 150 years ago when blacks were in chains and only around 60 years ago where racism was the norm. But things are changing :) you failed to recognize that the negative treatment has worked against you and made minorities stronger. Stronger to the point that now you are forced to sit down and shut up... this leaves u with a bitter feeling in which u take out in the UA-cam comments. It really sucks there are ignorant old people that can’t let it go, but ur old so it’s all good

    • @SouthOCmixdown
      @SouthOCmixdown 6 років тому

      +Ben T Hey, no offense but, even if he *is* white and "old", lol, something tells me that a man(?) of that awareness and intelligence, will probably outlive and outachieve the likes of you. You realize that the average lifespan of black males in the U.S.(due to drugs/violence/prison medical care), is less than 70, right? Hispanics trend just slighty higher than that. The rest of your post is nothing but SJW/BLM drivel. Blacks in the U.S. need to stop worrying about whites and start getting their collective acts together and that is an immutable fact that will *never* be overturned. But please, continue on in your ignorance. In truth, *your* own ignorance and attitude towards life, is *exactly* what makes *true* white supremacists(of which I'm *not* one, btw), very happy. Because it's a textbook formula to keep blacks underachieving for the next 100+ years. Age and generation have nothing to do with anything, sir. Right is right and wrong is wrong, regardless of what the calendar says. If you had a lick of sense, instead of silly SJW/BLM platitudes in your rhetoric, you would know that.
