For those of you watching and own a Ram, list problems you have had here...... This is an attempt to make it easier for people to view all problems in one section. Thanks for your support!
This is a great channel, man. 9 months ago I bought a 2022 1500 5.7 liter etorque when I was in a bit of a bind and needed something fast. So far it's been great but I do worry. Didn't get the extended warranty but I might do that after reading your comments. The truck only has 8500 miles on it right now. I've gained a lot of insight off the comments here. I'm not a mechanic but I think I'm going to figure how to turn off mds using a tuner. You made it look easy. Seems like that's a way to avoid potential problems. Thanks a bunch man.
I just bought my used 2015 Ram 1500 105k miles back in August and with in two weeks the hemi tick started I was so frustrated but lucky enough the dealer ship I bought it from had a 1 month full coverage on the motor and drive train. Called them up and they took care of it but I didn't have the truck for almost a month. They put in a new cam, lifters, and the heads got machined. I definitely dodged a bullet because it would of been close to 4k out of pocket but the dealership warranty covered it.
All the things you talked about are spot on. My 14 Ram with 87k has had the water leak at the 3rd brake light. Every time I went through the car wash it would burn the bulb out until I sealed it with silicone. I lube the door constantly, exhaust bolts have been replaced twice. Lucky I haven’t had the lifter tick but I change the oil every 6k with synthetic. I stopped bringing it in for all the recalls after the 4th one. I have to add to the list that that the body dents just by looking at it. I still like my truck but wish I could say that it was durable like a truck should be. Thanks for all the awesome videos using Alfaobd, definitely a tool needed for modifying your Ram!
I have recently bought a 2012 Ram 1500 Laramie and it has an exhaust leak. The exhaust leak is coming from the exhaust manifold off of the engine, it wasn’t until recently that I found out that these Rams have that in common! Thanks for the video it was a great video!
I removed the bed light and sealed the hole with Flex Seal rubber tape, then a little dab of RTV silicone around where the wires come out of the tape. Fixed it.
I've got a couple of the issuse. The exhaust leak is really annoying but I plan to replace the headers anyway with some shortys. I did find a way to fix the door squeak. I found that its not really the roller that is the problem but the shaft that goes through the center of the roller. I put a little bit of all purpose greas on top of the roller and just ran the door back and forth a bunch until it worked its way down into the roller and I havent had a problem with it in months. I kind of left a little glob of the grease on top so it keeps running down. I may wipe it all clean and see if it ever comes back. But since I've done this the door has been much better.. Thanks for the vids man.
Use a small amount of Never-Seize for the door squeak. It will not wash away or break down like grease. Only had to do it once and now door does not squeak anymore.
I bought a 2020 ram 1500 classic reg cab and had the door squeak at 5000 miles i brought it to dealership and the technician said i lubed the hinges and if comes back for squeak he is replacing the hinges wow thats incredible great videos keep them coming
Love Jasper. I have a gen 3 power wagon that was going through 1 quart oil per thousand miles. Dodge says that's an acceptable burn rate. Thank God for aftermarket warranties. Saved me thousands.
Adam, your Telsa-style radio link doesn't work. Can you do another video on the current radio, its features, how to install it, what are the special features, and leave a link to buy it. Thanks, Man!
Any vehicle that has had a type of multi displacement mds system, aka going from 8 to 6 or 4 cyclinders has always had problems. Ford, GMC , Dodge and Ram. I cant speak for the imports but there is all kinds of videos on UA-cam about it. It only happens to less than 5 percent of the Rams on the road, so therefore they don't see it has a problem. Before I bought my truck I researched it 5 years, who am I kidding, it took me that long to be able to afford one, lol. Just some food for thought, I still love my 2021 Ram 4th gen and always will.
Hey Al, I agree with most of that statement but as I don't have hard numbers that aren't produced by the corporation involved I believe this 5% to be higher, much higher. As much reading as I have done on the RAM forum and comments I've got on my own channel serves me to believe this 1 to 5% is suspect. I haven't seen 5% anywhere yet though has the number moved up from 1%? I bet it'll keep moving up lol. Appreciate you watching and thanks for your comment brother.

Luckily I don't have the Hemi tick. I just have every other issue you mentioned. For the door I spray a little PB-50 multi-purpose lubricant and it seemed to help. Took a couple of days treating it to really get it to stop. Haven't needed to spray it in a few months. I have had 2 issues that you didn't mention so hopefully they are not that common. The first being the 8.4a in my 2013 Ram 1500 crashes often, usually just soft-resets on its own but sometimes it will lockup and I have to manually reset it. The other issue which hasn't happened in a while but used to happen often was the EVIC would crash and restart within the first 11 minutes of the engine running. If it didn't restart within 11 minutes of driving then it would be fine until the engine was shut off. I try to stay up-to-date on the UConnect updates (I'm a computer guy so it's a habit) but nothing seems to help the radio.
Yup, I have the manifold leak. The squeaky door but not Terrible. There were flares on the truck when I bought it a year ago, I'm terrified to take those off to see what's under them. Also my ram is a 13 1500 sport with 120,000miles.

Hey Jhon R, My neighbor was talking about that a little while ago. He was telling me they were supposed to be pre-installed with visqueen in between the Fender and the flap. Somehow this got missed at the factory.... Thanks for the comment brother.
The mds hemi is a defective design. It has cam oiling issues for 2 reasons. reason 1. the mds oil gallery runs under the cam it blocks windage from the crank. reason 2. oil pressure is used to lock the mds lifters. when not in mds oil pressure to the mds lifters is lower. the fix. remove mds. have a machine shop drill the lifters to provide roller oiling from the lifter gallery.
@@OfOld locking out the phaser doesn’t do anything for oiling. the problem is that when mds is not on there is no oil pressure to the mds lifter bores. thus. no oil squirts out the bottom of the lifter. to hit the rollers. the only fix is to provide oil to the lifter rollers. if you can get your hands on the shrouded comp cams lifters those are the best to drill since the roller runs in a cup and its easier to contain oil. drill the lifter to provide oil to the top of the roller.
I have the door Squeak. I also have had the 3rd break light Leak did not figure it out till about a week ago so my headliner has spots in it now in the back driver corner.

Hey joe, I still have my Ram. I haven't been on the forum in such a long time because they took Tapatalk away. It is far harder to keep in touch. My phone browser doesn't push messages from websites. I wish they made an app for Ramforum :(
Hey David, it had a clean Carfax. I bought it 3 years ago. I acquired the Hemi tick one year after purchase. But you are right, The moral of the story is this truck needs to be kept in warranty.....
Hey how's it going didn't mean you, it was for general public, I think that hemi tick was a rare misfortune. Like my old blazer rocker arm kept snapping on me, always in the shop. I finally found some one to install my steering wheel controls makes a big difference!
No worries David. Even if it was towards me, I have thick skin. Last time I shed a tear is when I got the Hemi tick....lol Yeah, I love the steering wheel controls! That makes the Tesla style stereo safe to operate.lol
Hemi tick happend because you use regular (87) grade gas, instead of filling it up with mid-grade (89) as per manufacturer recommendation ......your fault in that :)
Hey H Habib, as I appreciate you watching my videos to know that I put 87 octane in my truck, (as I have an 87 octane tune on my RAM) I am sure 100% of mechanics would agree that 87 octane did NOT cause the roller to seize up. Thanks for watching man.
As a mechanic, and a Ram owner myself, who had the MDS Roller failure, I can assure you beyond a doubt that the Hemi tick IS NOT caused by the wrong octane of fuel. It has to do with the oil flow to the MDS lifter, and the freezing up of the roller said lifter, then causing it to drag on the cam lobe.... Which will then grind the cam lobe down, causing loss of power, multiple miss fire codes, and then, if you still ignore it, valve dropping and total rebuild.
For those of you watching and own a Ram, list problems you have had here......
This is an attempt to make it easier for people to view all problems in one section.

Try to find a truck with 80k miles or less. With clean carfax. At a legit dealer.
Last time I shed a tear is when I got the Hemi tick....lol
Yeah, I love the steering wheel controls! That makes the Tesla style stereo safe to operate.lol
Yes forsure! Next up I want to get the speedometer cluster.
😂😂😂
Care to explain this theory on how combustion timing is correlated to a valve train failure?
As a mechanic, and a Ram owner myself, who had the MDS Roller failure, I can assure you beyond a doubt that the Hemi tick IS NOT caused by the wrong octane of fuel. It has to do with the oil flow to the MDS lifter, and the freezing up of the roller said lifter, then causing it to drag on the cam lobe.... Which will then grind the cam lobe down, causing loss of power, multiple miss fire codes, and then, if you still ignore it, valve dropping and total rebuild.
Thank you @CyberNation for chiming in.
gas cap!!!
Stop with the sound effects…
2015 Ram 1500 had the hemi tick the exhaust leak and door squeak. second owner but i still would go with Ram
