I am not surprised Russians are reluctant to say anything considering there is no freedom of speech and you risk being arrested if you say anything negative about the Putin dictatorship. I suppose saying something positive about the "supposedly evil" USA may have the same consequences in Russia.
Politicians destroy everything they touch. The people, just about anywhere, are usually decent. We pretty much all strive for the same things, peace, love and security.

I met Russian sailors visiting Seattle during a Russia-American peace visit on the cruiser Marshal Krylov. They were very nice to us and sad their soldiers are dying now because of changes in leadership.
"I don't like them as people, but I'm going to move to the USA" Interesting. This reminds me of Walter Berglund's grandfather in Freedom. Moved to the USA, made a lot of money there, but held the country and its inhabitants in contempt.
There is no irony here. Western countries did not lose as many people in World War I and II as Russia did, and the USA hasn't had a war on its territory at all. Then Russia suffered through the Red Terror and then took on the main brunt of the terrorists from the East, thereby providing 'greenhouse' conditions for the West to flourish
That first girl seemed to think that if she talked poorly about America that it would come back on her when she got here. That is so funny. Kinda reminds me of that old Yakov Smirnoff joke "in America you can always find a party. in Russia the party always finds you." Sweetheart, bash away the government nor the populace cares.
Asking about the USA is too loaded of a question. The American government or the American citizens. Ask about one or the other for any results of value.
I agree, I don’t think the question was worded in the best way. It seemed to make people hesitant to answer the question, because it didn’t distinguish between the American people and the American government. In other videos I’ve seen where Russians had that distinction clarified for them, they overwhelmingly expressed positive feelings toward the American people, but more negative feelings about the government.
Most interesting observation is how 'neutral' most to them remain in their responses. They seem to have a fear of expressing a firm opinion one way or the other. That being said, they appear as thoughtful and well spoken. Be interesting to ask the reverse question at a Trump rally...
All countries are trading partners, some are military partners. What Russians can think about Belarus, hmm. A brotherly country, one can easily say that Belarusians are Russians because they have a common gene. China is a neighboring country, it sells cheap goods.
