I feel so bad for Keaya, he lost both his biological and adoptive father, and in the process losing his closest friend; his brother. Family was like dust to his palm, he had it in his grasp for a moment, but he watched as it all crumbled through his hands, as it left him. I have always hoped Diluc and Keaya will once again unite as brothers, as best friends that both froliced in the flowing winds of mondstadt. They both have they're own pride, but if only they let it down, just for a moment. This animatic is breath taking and explains the emotions and the feeling of Keaya's long kept memories. :)
I may or may not have cried a little because I also love this song separately from the animatic but the art is beautiful and so so so heartwarming and heartbreaking at once
I hope that in the future of Teyvat there will be an event or quest that at least brings them a little closer than where they are now. And even if it is a subtle change I hope they won't be on edge around each others.

The fact that kaeya actually thinks that whatever happened was his fault and that he deserves to go through all this is just so sad bro. He actually went to die at the hands of diluc cause of all that pent up guilt and diluc would've literally killed him if he didn't got his vision back then. Kaeya deserves a happy ending the most :(

This is why kaeya is my favorite character in all of genshin. Kaeya didn't ASK to be abandoned by his father or to be a spy sent from khaenri'ah.. This man has to lie constantly to hide his true feelings and to cope with the idea that he can never be his true self around anyone but diluc. I just want Kaeya to be happy. So thank you so much for making this beautiful work of art. 😭
The end scene is just…heartwarming?the way klee ran to him and how he was looking at her.i can imagine him asking jean for a good break in which he wanted to reflect on the past and let his bottled up emotions free,then when he returned to the city he realizes how much people in the city care for him and he is assured that this is home.
This made me realize why I love characters like Kaeya and Venti. They both hide their traumatic/tragic pasts with humor and charm. They both also drink away the pain (I'm assuming). I love characters like this, characters that use humor as a coping mechanism because I'm much like that too. Great animatic, gave me the chills and I almost cried!
I hope one day, Kaeya and Diluc will be reunited again. We all know Diluc kind of forgave Kaeya and still cares about him in any way, like how he kept the jar Kaeya gave him even though its not matching dawn winery's interior. Mihoyo please make them reunite in the near future

I feel like rationally he always wanted to fulfill his duty as a spy (which is why he felt relief when crepus died), but emotionally he doesn't want to betray the love he felt in Mondstadt. He went to Diluc for a solution, but Diluc couldn't give him one. Diluc fought him, but also didn't finish the fight. Then Diluc started distancing Kaeya but also kept his secret. Kaeya is getting mixed messages which is why he insistently tries to get Diluc's opinion. I think Diluc acts this way because he wants to show Kaeya that he doesn't approve of him being a spy, but also doesn't want to completely push him away. Therefore, I think right now the more love he feels in Mondstadt, the more pain he feels. Rationally he never wanted to betray Khaenriah, so the love he feels just puts more emotional stress onto him.

The wordless beginning showed a contemplative Kaeya, looking down, and him sitting on his knees with his vision as a tear fell. It is faintly cold, and makes my heart ache. For this is Kaeya; he is a cold, traumatized person who is unsure of who he is. The beginning did well of showing that immediately, albeit implied, but when looking deeper... Kaeya's position as he stared down at the vision and cried said more than enough for me. At the start of the lyrics a small boy, Kaeya, wearing a cloak, is staring into his reflection on the water. And then he reaches into the water and holds it in his hands before letting it seep back down. This could symbolize a fair number of things, really. Maybe it is him reaching out to himself and looking for himself, only to let go. Maybe it is him getting a feel of the land, and pulling away despite not wanting to. Maybe it is a comfort. "I had a dream." Kaeya climbed a tree and, transfixed, looked down at Mondstadt. It was a peaceful city, and I can imagine little Keaya wanted very much to visit it. Then he turned back to the hooded figure, like he was reminded that he was not to go to Mondstadt city for it was not his home. He had no reason to, as he was Khaenri'ahn and had more important duties to fulfill. Just from the loss of sparkles in his eye, and how the next scene is of him leaving and following the hooded figure shows that. "Take me home. I can't take it anymore." He looked so sad here. He followed the person, put his hood up, and kept leaving Mondstadt behind, or trying to by him walking away from parts of it. When a part of the chorus played, Kaeya just looked down. That really hurt, because even at this age he knows what is expected of him as a Khaenri'ahn citizen, and yet he yearns so very much to not follow what is expected of him. Next is him meeting Diluc. He thought of the first time the other reached out, and then is brought to the present. Diluc coldly pushed a glass over, and Kaeya just downed the whole thing. It really pushed the "drowning your problems in alcohol" headcanon many have for him. The abyss mage scene.. He looked in his reflection after offing the mage in his sword, and it looked like his image changed. Maybe to that of the hooded figure? After all, the mages are old citizens. It.. hurts, to know he is offing his own people. Maybe he feels the disapproving gaze of that person even still. Maybe he feels that he /is/ part of that person, and that person was just the image of Khaenri'ah. His 'home'. He looked up to a star in the sky here. I wonder if he saw that very star often. The jumps in time create a very dramatic atmosphere, but it is fitting and not overwhelming. More nostalgic, almost. He ran in the past, and now he stands still. Is he sure of his place, or does he question here he stands? Has a small part of him given up? Then there is the scene of Diluc holding his father, and Kaeya standing nearby. ...Kaeya stands at a distance when the 'now' scene happens. Then he remembered the fight.. Diluc's almost disappointed, no, betrayed expression must be something Kaeya regrets ever having seen by his own doing. Diluc attacks Kaeya, who protects his face and then receives his cryo vision in a faint burst of a shield. And Diluc almost looked disgusted when he turned away. He was hurt, and that was shown well. Plus, we don't really see Kaeya for a couple seconds. Just him looking at Diluc as Kaeya backs away from the winery. An interesting detail. There is a quick collection of Kaeya's important memories. Little Kaeya, with that hooded figure holding his shoulder with black running up it. I wonder, is it from the abyss? Some sort of other power? Kaeya has something similar on his eye, although it could be passed as a shadow. And he is in rags, and looks very blank. I want to hold him and tell him it will be okay. He looks slightly happier as he talks with his new family.. Now with a bandage over his eye. And there is how Kaeya looked when Diluc had been upset with him, I imagine. A small, sad smile as he looked down with a clenched fist (holding his vision?) and marks over his face. I wonder how strong Kaeya is to watch his brother hate him, and try to ki// him, but still not cry as he turned away and left. As he stood alone, he smiled so sadly. Does he feel alone? Yes, perhaps he does after those he knew for so long were all gone. After all, Diluc will not look at him as his brother perhaps ever again. /That/ is a painful thought. And as a Khaenri'ahn, he still ran to the nearby statue of the seven and looked helplessly up at the carved image as he fell to his knees. The song spoke of 'nowhere else to go'. How fitting. Where does Kaeya go from here? That is what brought him to the statue, running before he fell to his knees. He remembered fond things from the past, and then his image came in front of the others around him as it returned to him by the statue. He really felt.. maybe still feels alone sometimes. He was torn between his homes. For who can chose between their homeland and the place that was really /home?/ Despite having looked helpless when he had first fallen in front of the statue, Kaeya really just looks defeated. Still not crying, just.. blank. Tired. I wonder how he felt then, about what Diluc had done. Did he wish for his d3ath by his brother? When he watched his past self and then reached out for his own shoulder, what did he wish to do? Comfort himself? Did he want to halt his past self's advance forward? Was he desperate and angry? And then he goes into the city, and finds himself appreciated and welcomed by many people. Those close to him, and those not. They all look at him with fondness. And the city is bathed in light, a glorious, happy place. The last scene is so heartwarming. It is so nice to see Kaeya surrounded by those who love him, and with his brother there as well, smiling at him.. You could tell Kaeya was overwhelmed, but he seemed happy. And so he found home, a "soft place to land". And I'm happy for him, and the fact that he figured out where his loyalties lie, even if that is in those he cares for rather than a place.
The 'hooded figure' is Kaeya's father. it was mentioned that his father left him in front of the winery. And the reflection he sees in the sword was his younger self before it reverts back to his present self.

Ive been absolutely dying over Kaeya and Klees interactions throughout the Mirage event, so her being the one to lead him to the group of people who loves him in the final scene hit home even harder than it usually does when i come here for a rewatch of one of the best things to come out of the Gsneshin fanbase
Thank you so much ;,;; when I made this, I thought long and hard about who, how and why things are in regards to his character like Klee being the one being sent to fetch kaeya bc he just folds when it comes to her was one of the things (bc i thought if it was anyone else, he'd be more suspicious or will take things more seriously and klee would most like be the only one without that effect). This animatic was made so long ago for me and with every new event that shows a small glimpse of his character more, I get very happy when I hit the mark on some things and people see that and come back to this video. It wont always be correct but I'm glad I get close to it bc I really do love his character in all its nuances
this man deserves a hug and therapy, kaeya loml i love you. i've mained this man since we got him at ar5 and holy shit his back story and everything is just so tragic. he'd one of the most well written characters in this game (for me). his lore and cannon story is so interesting that i wrote a 10 paged analysis of him. being able to understand the very depths of him and his character is a challenge i'd love to take. anyways, kaeya mains unite. manifesting kaeya cons on y'alls next pull on the standard banner ❄️💙💪😩

This animatic made my heart warmer knowing the fact that from what I perceive it as in Diluc's event and in the Golden Archipelago one. They still love each other but each show it in their own way. Like how Diluc still remembers small facts about Kaeya, how he keeps gifts from him and never denying him the comfort of the Winery. How Kaeya would always talk about young Diluc as if reminiscing and implying that he missed those days. These two are just so wjdjejdj

I only focused on Kaeya to the point of me forgetting i had to build others. I main Xiao too now.

I refuse to believe that Kaeya abandoned Khaenri’ah. But I also refuse to believe that Kaeya would betray Mondstadt. It probably hurts so much with every Abyss monster’s life he had taken.
Even though I know what happened to him, this made me cry because of how much pain he has been through. after Khanreiah was destroyed he didn't have a home and his father left him, he was adopted by diluc's father, he finally felt happy but then he died as well, so he told diluc that he was sent on a mission with his father before khanreiah was destroyed to act as a spy and collect information, but then he got into a fight with diluc and got his vision. When he went back to monstadt he realised that he had a home which was with them, not as the cavalry captain, but as Kaeya.
I swear I was almost tearing up by the end Kaeya deserves all the happiness and we Travelers are here to provide! Once again happy birthday Kaeya *cheers* 🍾

The way I got goosebumps at 3:11 because it was so beautifully animated, I'm going insane over this. You portrayed Kaeya's backstory so artistically that I felt like I've seen everything play out in the game itself. The way you drew so many complicated backgrounds and perspectives had me rewatching those scenes again and again, and also Kaeya's sword movement at 1:40 was super accurate to the game. This is going straight to the favourites hhfhshdkj
I love this little animatic and it gives a nice touch on the many interpretations of kaeya's backstory. I feel like not a lot of people actually take in and appreciate how tragic kaeya's life was. He is arguably one of the most developed characters in the entirety of Genshin Impact and has so much to him lorewise and imo is such a loveable character. Ive always been drawn to characters like this and kaeya is no exception. He's always hiding his past behind his cunning and charm and his humour, so that he can stat focused on those around him. I honestly never know to feel upset or happy. But alas, the comments section of your youtube video is not the place to rant and ramble about my obsession with kaeya...
it's ok, i feel the same qwq. i love kaeya as a character in the same way. he not only has really tragic lore and a heart-warming concept of found family but he also has good lore longevity possible to the story with him being a descendant of a regent family from khaenri'ah so he's already immensely more relevant than a lot of characters by a tier.

THIS IS AMAZING! The effort put into each scene’s must’ve taken a while to get the right perspective. And the song PERFECTLY matches Kaeyas point of view! He wants to go home, not just any home, but a place where he is welcome and not judged! At his “home” (Dawn Winery) Diluc kind of grew a dislike towards Kaeya, therefore showing him running off. But as for his other home, supposedly Kanreiah (idk how to spell it), he can’t go back to it any more. So he’s kind of stuck in this “in-between” zone, where he has no-where to go. But mondstat shows to be one of his homes, for he is able to be free and not be disliked in the city. That’s why my favorite part is towards the end, because he finds his ‘home’ :]

I love this so much. Everything about it is gorgeous and to be honest it is again a reminder that I love the Mondstadt region the most out of all of Teyvat. The part with Diluc and Kaeya in the middle was particularly my favorite because I have wanted that part of Kaeya's character story animated for so long. Amazing work!
I really love the details when he was younger showing that he was malnourished. Also, I was so expecting this to end sadly because it seems nothing involving kaeya ever has a happy ending, so I was pleasantly surprised! Also, this was just plain gorgeous.
It was a difficult journey but he got there in the end. This is so beautiful!! I especially love the walk cycle of young Kaeya. It looks so smooth! Kaeya walked forwards, stepping in his father's muddy footprints. It kept him from slipping as much, even if he had to take big steps to match his stride. A few raindrops fell out of the sky, splashing into the nearby pond, gently falling off flower petals and leaves. His reflection distracted him. There was mud on his face. He must have gotten it there earlier, when he tripped. He cupped some of the water in his hands, watching it trickle through his fingers. His father barked for him to follow, startling him. He washed the mud off and hurried to catch up with his father. The two of them came up on a hill, and Kaeya struggled a bit to get into a tree. There was a city in the distance, and he wanted a better view. Regardless of how little the tree actually helped his vision of the city, he was nothing short of enamored. Giant wheels spun on the sides of towers, the spires of the cathedral rose above a huge statue of someone with wings. His father scoffed something about an Archon, was it their Archon? It was beautiful, in it's own way. Kaeya wished he could see it closer. His father called him down, said he shouldn't be fooling around. There was nothing in that city worth admiring, he said. Kaeya frowned, but followed him. He pulled his hood up, in a subconscious effort to keep himself from looking back at the city that looked so happy. It started to rain harder. Kaeya blinked, and looked up when the first drop hit his nose. His father had turned around, were they stopping? He said a lot that Kaeya didn't understand. Something about home, something about the gods. Something about their curse. Something about how Kaeya was their last hope. He told Kaeya to stay there, he'd be right back. Kaeya thought he understood that, at least. He waited. He waited until the rain stopped, until the sun came up. Until it was high in the sky, and until it set again. Kaeya waited until nightfall, until he could see the lamp grass beginning to glow once more. His father didn't come back. Kaeya wasn't even six yet. He was found by a man he came to know as Mr. Ragnvindr. The man had taken off his coat and quickly wrapped it around the poor, shivering boy. He'd asked if Kaeya was lost, and frowned when Kaeya told him he was waiting for his dad. He looked more worried when Kaeya told him how long he'd been waiting. Mr. Ragnvindr told him to come with him, he'd get him warmed up, with some food. Kaeya didn't want to leave. But he was hungry. So he followed. He discovered that Mr. Ragnvindr had a son, named Diluc. The boy was extremely energetic, and friendly, and Kaeya didn't know how to feel about him at first. He was too loud. Even a little scary. But over time, he warmed up to the boy. They stayed up together, giggling under the blankets when their father would almost catch them. Kaeya came to him when he had nightmares, when the thunder got too scary, when he needed a partner in crime, when he wanted a best friend. They took him to the city he came to know as Mondstadt. It was every bit as wonderful as he thought it'd be. The people were really nice. They let him play with their pets while Master Crepus did business. He liked it here. He wanted to stay forever. He hoped he could. Over time, he grew into a fine young man. Unfortunately, with age came the understanding of what his father had meant when he left him just outside the City of Freedom. Freedom. He wished it was a luxury he had. He remembers his 13th birthday. The day he told Mr. Ragnvindr who he was. The day he'd taken off his eyepatch, and cried like the child he thought he wasn't, and showed the father he desperately wanted to keep the curse that afflicted his skin, his eye. He remembers how the man had gently placed a hand on his hair, and told him that he was still his son. He'd cried a lot that day. Kaeya sighs, downing his glass of whiskey-far from his first. It burns as it goes down. A nice distraction from his thoughts. He should be happy. He'd successfully completed a mission earlier, eradicating a group of hilichurls effortlessly. There had even been a Cryo Abyss mage, and he'd managed to take it down largely unscathed. It was a good day. Until he'd looked up at the night sky, and the star of Khaenri'ah had flashed before his eyes, and he'd been forced through a trip down memory lane. Until said mage had laughed, like he knew something he shouldn't. Like he knew who Kaeya was. Until he cleaned his blade, and all he saw was his own reflection. Son of Khaenri'ah. Spy. Traitor. He despised it. He couldn't sit here anymore. Diluc's not-so-subtle glare felt like hands around his throat. A feeling he was too familiar with, for his own liking. He took a walk. It didn't help, at all, when he realized he'd ended up in front of the Winery. This view... it took him back. Back to seventeen. Back to running faster than his legs should take him, the other knights hot on his heels. Back to running to his older brother, his father, and skidding to a halt at the blood on the ground. To watching Diluc sobbing over the man that had raised them. It was raining, because of course it was. He should've been faster. He could have made it. Diluc put him out of his misery. Kaeya should have stepped forward, and cried with him. Put a hand on his shoulder. Told him everything would be okay, they'd make it through this. He had no right to feel liberated. He truly kept getting lower and lower. There was so much blood. Guilt racked his body that night, when Diluc turned to him with the last shred of hope in his eyes. The last thing he could cling to, when his world had been thrown sideways so violently. Someone he could trust. Kaeya, wishing more than ever, more than anything that he'd been born a son of Freedom, corrected him on his mistake. Everything in both of them shattered that night. The rain came down far more harshly, as Diluc forced him to draw his blade. He never raised a blow against his brother. Well, not his brother, anymore. How could he? Even his parries, his blocks were only instinctive. Diluc yelled at him, telling him to defend himself. To fight back. He called him a traitor. Told him to burn. Burn he did. He threw Kaeya down, pushing him back with a hand around his neck, and Kaeya vaguely registered flaming furniture, Ms. Adelinde's screaming, as he stared up at Diluc's blazing claymore. Diluc raised his sword, one last time. Kaeya closed his eyes. He briefly wondered if it would hurt as much as the burns. He never got the chance to find out. A flash of light, and the harsh clang of metal off of something... almost musical rang out. He looked up, and Diluc... was on the floor? His claymore was extinguished. And his gaze was on the brightly glowing Cryo Vision, hovering in the air in front of Kaeya. Kaeya stared at it, mystified, but couldn't bring himself to reach for it. The gods just had to do it to him, didn't they? He looked around, at the multi-faceted, shimmering, transparent shield now surrounding his body, the frost spread over the floor. Hesitantly, he reached forward to take it from the air. Was this real? The glow dulled down, and after the initial icy burn, it faded into a slight chill. He squeezed it so hard that it cut into his palm. The shield slowly flickered, and died out. He looked up, terrified that Diluc would raise his blade again. Instead, he'd settled for a quiet, murderous glare. He told Kaeya to get the hell out of his house. Kaeya gladly obliged, for his sake, trying not to let the tears stream down his face. He didn't deserve to grieve his loss. He'd caused it, after all. He couldn't stop himself from looking back, that time.
Kaeya had run until he collapsed, not caring where he ended up or what he ran into on his way. The rain and wind whipped around him, soaking him to his bones. He wished it would have helped, in any way. Maybe washed the filthy blood of the broken, godless, cursed nation out of him. He was thankful, at least, that he could pretend the drops streaking down his cheeks were only water. He found himself in front of a statue to the Anemo god, the one that overlooked the Winery. Why, he asked. Why have I been cursed with this? Why can't I belong? Why can't I be happy? Why me? The statue was as lifeless as ever, but he swore he felt the wind embrace him, slowly treating his injuries. Easing the pain. Memories flooded through his head, faces he hardly recognized anymore gave him rare smiles, getting up to mischief with Diluc, following Master Crepus around, dragging Jean into and out of trouble with him. Just for a moment, he belonged. Just for a moment. Every memory he touched turned bittersweet, and he wished that he could go back to seven, to finding frogs in the creek with his big brother. To nine, finally learning how to glide. To twelve, when he'd been given his first blade, to fifteen, sleeping under the stars with his best friends. He broke down into sobs. Why did he have to ruin everything? He threw his Vision, watching as it clanged harmlessly off of the statue in front of him. He wanted more than anything to be able to run back to Diluc, tell him he was sorry, giggle with him in the vineyards, hide their father's things, tease him about how he'd grown up shorter. But he couldn't. He never could, not anymore. He wished he could tell his younger self it was worth it, to keep waiting or to follow the Ragnvindrs. Something. He wished he'd run far away, as soon as his father left. If only he'd run. Kaeya looked up, finding himself back in front of Mondstadt's gate. His feet always led him back to the city, back to the Winery. He'd laugh, say he'd always find his way home. He so badly wanted it to be home. Stepping through the gate, he plastered his smile back on, pretending that he hadn't just fallen into a spiral so recently, he hadn't been thinking. He waved as he walked up the staircase. Jean had told him to come to the office, earlier. Now was as good a time as any. Maybe she'd give him some more paperwork, it'd get his mind off things. Hopefully. He decides to buy himself a snack, for later, while he works. It surprises him when he feels a tug on his arm. Usually he'd notice if someone approached him. Looking down, he smiles as he sees Klee, followed by Amber-who is trying desperately to keep the little girl from bubbling over, and babbling about some super duper big secret, just for him. Amber quickly shoves some flowers into his arms, with a hurried happy birthday, as she tries to quiet her down. She remembered. He laughs, and when Klee takes his hand, he follows her. He isn't expecting her to lead him back to the Knights' headquarters, and certainly isn't expecting the crowd he sees when Amber pushes open the doors. Shock floods his body, as his gaze passes over his colleagues, his friends, their siblings... And Diluc. He chokes back his feelings, hard. His throat is tight. Why are they here? Why is he here? They all tell him happy birthday, and he feels tears threaten to make themselves known. They all remembered? Did Diluc tell them? Kaeya definitely didn't. Diluc looks like he isn't sure what to do with himself. Kaeya wants to tell him he doesn't have to be here if he doesn't want to. This is already enough, already enough that they remembered, already enough that they're here. But Diluc stays, and he even smiles at Kaeya once. He almost sobs. Maybe, just maybe, he can belong. One day.

I feel so bad for Keaya, he lost both his biological and adoptive father, and in the process losing his closest friend; his brother. Family was like dust to his palm, he had it in his grasp for a moment, but he watched as it all crumbled through his hands, as it left him. I have always hoped Diluc and Keaya will once again unite as brothers, as best friends that both froliced in the flowing winds of mondstadt. They both have they're own pride, but if only they let it down, just for a moment. This animatic is breath taking and explains the emotions and the feeling of Keaya's long kept memories. :)
Sadly no one focus about his good side, only the manipulative side which is mask because of how much he suffered
I may or may not have cried a little because I also love this song separately from the animatic but the art is beautiful and so so so heartwarming and heartbreaking at once
I hope that in the future of Teyvat there will be an event or quest that at least brings them a little closer than where they are now. And even if it is a subtle change I hope they won't be on edge around each others.

The fact that kaeya actually thinks that whatever happened was his fault and that he deserves to go through all this is just so sad bro. He actually went to die at the hands of diluc cause of all that pent up guilt and diluc would've literally killed him if he didn't got his vision back then. Kaeya deserves a happy ending the most :(

This made me realize why I love characters like Kaeya and Venti. They both hide their traumatic/tragic pasts with humor and charm. They both also drink away the pain (I'm assuming). I love characters like this, characters that use humor as a coping mechanism because I'm much like that too. Great animatic, gave me the chills and I almost cried!

I feel like rationally he always wanted to fulfill his duty as a spy (which is why he felt relief when crepus died), but emotionally he doesn't want to betray the love he felt in Mondstadt. He went to Diluc for a solution, but Diluc couldn't give him one. Diluc fought him, but also didn't finish the fight. Then Diluc started distancing Kaeya but also kept his secret. Kaeya is getting mixed messages which is why he insistently tries to get Diluc's opinion. I think Diluc acts this way because he wants to show Kaeya that he doesn't approve of him being a spy, but also doesn't want to completely push him away. Therefore, I think right now the more love he feels in Mondstadt, the more pain he feels. Rationally he never wanted to betray Khaenriah, so the love he feels just puts more emotional stress onto him.

The wordless beginning showed a contemplative Kaeya, looking down, and him sitting on his knees with his vision as a tear fell. It is faintly cold, and makes my heart ache. For this is Kaeya; he is a cold, traumatized person who is unsure of who he is. The beginning did well of showing that immediately, albeit implied, but when looking deeper... Kaeya's position as he stared down at the vision and cried said more than enough for me.
At the start of the lyrics a small boy, Kaeya, wearing a cloak, is staring into his reflection on the water. And then he reaches into the water and holds it in his hands before letting it seep back down. This could symbolize a fair number of things, really. Maybe it is him reaching out to himself and looking for himself, only to let go. Maybe it is him getting a feel of the land, and pulling away despite not wanting to. Maybe it is a comfort.
"I had a dream." Kaeya climbed a tree and, transfixed, looked down at Mondstadt. It was a peaceful city, and I can imagine little Keaya wanted very much to visit it. Then he turned back to the hooded figure, like he was reminded that he was not to go to Mondstadt city for it was not his home. He had no reason to, as he was Khaenri'ahn and had more important duties to fulfill. Just from the loss of sparkles in his eye, and how the next scene is of him leaving and following the hooded figure shows that.
"Take me home. I can't take it anymore." He looked so sad here. He followed the person, put his hood up, and kept leaving Mondstadt behind, or trying to by him walking away from parts of it. When a part of the chorus played, Kaeya just looked down. That really hurt, because even at this age he knows what is expected of him as a Khaenri'ahn citizen, and yet he yearns so very much to not follow what is expected of him.
Next is him meeting Diluc. He thought of the first time the other reached out, and then is brought to the present. Diluc coldly pushed a glass over, and Kaeya just downed the whole thing. It really pushed the "drowning your problems in alcohol" headcanon many have for him.
The abyss mage scene.. He looked in his reflection after offing the mage in his sword, and it looked like his image changed. Maybe to that of the hooded figure? After all, the mages are old citizens. It.. hurts, to know he is offing his own people. Maybe he feels the disapproving gaze of that person even still. Maybe he feels that he /is/ part of that person, and that person was just the image of Khaenri'ah. His 'home'.
He looked up to a star in the sky here. I wonder if he saw that very star often.
The jumps in time create a very dramatic atmosphere, but it is fitting and not overwhelming. More nostalgic, almost. He ran in the past, and now he stands still. Is he sure of his place, or does he question here he stands? Has a small part of him given up?
Then there is the scene of Diluc holding his father, and Kaeya standing nearby. ...Kaeya stands at a distance when the 'now' scene happens.
Then he remembered the fight.. Diluc's almost disappointed, no, betrayed expression must be something Kaeya regrets ever having seen by his own doing. Diluc attacks Kaeya, who protects his face and then receives his cryo vision in a faint burst of a shield. And Diluc almost looked disgusted when he turned away. He was hurt, and that was shown well. Plus, we don't really see Kaeya for a couple seconds. Just him looking at Diluc as Kaeya backs away from the winery. An interesting detail.
There is a quick collection of Kaeya's important memories. Little Kaeya, with that hooded figure holding his shoulder with black running up it. I wonder, is it from the abyss? Some sort of other power? Kaeya has something similar on his eye, although it could be passed as a shadow. And he is in rags, and looks very blank. I want to hold him and tell him it will be okay.
He looks slightly happier as he talks with his new family.. Now with a bandage over his eye.
And there is how Kaeya looked when Diluc had been upset with him, I imagine. A small, sad smile as he looked down with a clenched fist (holding his vision?) and marks over his face. I wonder how strong Kaeya is to watch his brother hate him, and try to ki// him, but still not cry as he turned away and left.
As he stood alone, he smiled so sadly. Does he feel alone? Yes, perhaps he does after those he knew for so long were all gone. After all, Diluc will not look at him as his brother perhaps ever again. /That/ is a painful thought.
And as a Khaenri'ahn, he still ran to the nearby statue of the seven and looked helplessly up at the carved image as he fell to his knees. The song spoke of 'nowhere else to go'. How fitting. Where does Kaeya go from here? That is what brought him to the statue, running before he fell to his knees.
He remembered fond things from the past, and then his image came in front of the others around him as it returned to him by the statue. He really felt.. maybe still feels alone sometimes. He was torn between his homes. For who can chose between their homeland and the place that was really /home?/
Despite having looked helpless when he had first fallen in front of the statue, Kaeya really just looks defeated. Still not crying, just.. blank. Tired. I wonder how he felt then, about what Diluc had done. Did he wish for his d3ath by his brother?
When he watched his past self and then reached out for his own shoulder, what did he wish to do? Comfort himself? Did he want to halt his past self's advance forward? Was he desperate and angry?
And then he goes into the city, and finds himself appreciated and welcomed by many people. Those close to him, and those not. They all look at him with fondness. And the city is bathed in light, a glorious, happy place.
The last scene is so heartwarming. It is so nice to see Kaeya surrounded by those who love him, and with his brother there as well, smiling at him.. You could tell Kaeya was overwhelmed, but he seemed happy. And so he found home, a "soft place to land". And I'm happy for him, and the fact that he figured out where his loyalties lie, even if that is in those he cares for rather than a place.

The 'hooded figure' is Kaeya's father. it was mentioned that his father left him in front of the winery.
And the reflection he sees in the sword was his younger self before it reverts back to his present self.

Ive been absolutely dying over Kaeya and Klees interactions throughout the Mirage event, so her being the one to lead him to the group of people who loves him in the final scene hit home even harder than it usually does when i come here for a rewatch of one of the best things to come out of the Gsneshin fanbase
Thank you so much ;,;; when I made this, I thought long and hard about who, how and why things are in regards to his character like Klee being the one being sent to fetch kaeya bc he just folds when it comes to her was one of the things (bc i thought if it was anyone else, he'd be more suspicious or will take things more seriously and klee would most like be the only one without that effect). This animatic was made so long ago for me and with every new event that shows a small glimpse of his character more, I get very happy when I hit the mark on some things and people see that and come back to this video. It wont always be correct but I'm glad I get close to it bc I really do love his character in all its nuances

i've mained this man since we got him at ar5 and holy shit his back story and everything is just so tragic. he'd one of the most well written characters in this game (for me). his lore and cannon story is so interesting that i wrote a 10 paged analysis of him. being able to understand the very depths of him and his character is a challenge i'd love to take.

This animatic made my heart warmer knowing the fact that from what I perceive it as in Diluc's event and in the Golden Archipelago one. They still love each other but each show it in their own way.
Like how Diluc still remembers small facts about Kaeya, how he keeps gifts from him and never denying him the comfort of the Winery. How Kaeya would always talk about young Diluc as if reminiscing and implying that he missed those days. These two are just so wjdjejdj
as someone who is new to genshin but had a strange connection to Kaeya-and ofc watched this-it made me feel like I NEEDED to make him main. This may be spoilers, but it was worth watching.

Good, though I remember I had to be gone and my friend was doing my stuff. I came back, asked how it was (i only had Xiao and Mona as my only 5 stars at the time) and they said "Kaeya carries your team."
I only focused on Kaeya to the point of me forgetting i had to build others. I main Xiao too now.

Even though I know what happened to him, this made me cry because of how much pain he has been through. after Khanreiah was destroyed he didn't have a home and his father left him, he was adopted by diluc's father, he finally felt happy but then he died as well, so he told diluc that he was sent on a mission with his father before khanreiah was destroyed to act as a spy and collect information, but then he got into a fight with diluc and got his vision. When he went back to monstadt he realised that he had a home which was with them, not as the cavalry captain, but as Kaeya.
Not before khanreiah was destroyed, it was destroyed 500 years ago...

The way I got goosebumps at 3:11 because it was so beautifully animated, I'm going insane over this. You portrayed Kaeya's backstory so artistically that I felt like I've seen everything play out in the game itself. The way you drew so many complicated backgrounds and perspectives had me rewatching those scenes again and again, and also Kaeya's sword movement at 1:40 was super accurate to the game. I love this little animatic and it gives a nice touch on the many interpretations of kaeya's backstory.
I feel like not a lot of people actually take in and appreciate how tragic kaeya's life was. He is arguably one of the most developed characters in the entirety of Genshin Impact and has so much to him lorewise and imo is such a loveable character. Ive always been drawn to characters like this and kaeya is no exception.
He's always hiding his past behind his cunning and charm and his humour, so that he can stat focused on those around him. I honestly never know to feel upset or happy.
But alas, the comments section of your youtube video is not the place to rant and ramble about my obsession with kaeya...
it's ok, i feel the same qwq. i love kaeya as a character in the same way. he not only has really tragic lore and a heart-warming concept of found family but he also has good lore longevity possible to the story with him being a descendant of a regent family from khaenri'ah so he's already immensely more relevant than a lot of characters by a tier.

THIS IS AMAZING! The effort put into each scene’s must’ve taken a while to get the right perspective. And the song PERFECTLY matches Kaeyas point of view! He wants to go home, not just any home, but a place where he is welcome and not judged! At his “home” (Dawn Winery) Diluc kind of grew a dislike towards Kaeya, therefore showing him running off. But as for his other home, supposedly Kanreiah (idk how to spell it), he can’t go back to it any more. So he’s kind of stuck in this “in-between” zone, where he has no-where to go. But mondstat shows to be one of his homes, for he is able to be free and not be disliked in the city. That’s why my favorite part is towards the end, because he finds his ‘home’ :]

The part with Diluc and Kaeya in the middle was particularly my favorite because I have wanted that part of Kaeya's character story animated for so long. Amazing work!

I really love the details when he was younger showing that he was malnourished. Also, I was so expecting this to end sadly because it seems nothing involving kaeya ever has a happy ending, so I was pleasantly surprised! Also, this was just plain gorgeous.
It was a difficult journey but he got there in the end. This is so beautiful!! I especially love the walk cycle of young Kaeya. It looks so smooth! And the way the clip syncs with the music is beautifully done. Not to mention the art! And the story! Happy birthday Kaeya, and thank you also for making this masterpiece.

THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND HEARTBREAKING AHHH!! Funnily enough, when I heard this song recently I thought to myself “this would make a great Kaeya animatic” and then I found this lol. Absolutely stunning job portraying our boy Kaeya’s story
Kaeya walked forwards, stepping in his father's muddy footprints. It kept him from slipping as much, even if he had to take big steps to match his stride. A few raindrops fell out of the sky, splashing into the nearby pond, gently falling off flower petals and leaves. His reflection distracted him. There was mud on his face. He must have gotten it there earlier, when he tripped. He cupped some of the water in his hands, watching it trickle through his fingers. His father barked for him to follow, startling him. He washed the mud off and hurried to catch up with his father.
The two of them came up on a hill, and Kaeya struggled a bit to get into a tree. There was a city in the distance, and he wanted a better view. Regardless of how little the tree actually helped his vision of the city, he was nothing short of enamored. Giant wheels spun on the sides of towers, the spires of the cathedral rose above a huge statue of someone with wings. His father scoffed something about an Archon, was it their Archon? It was beautiful, in it's own way. Kaeya wished he could see it closer. His father called him down, said he shouldn't be fooling around. There was nothing in that city worth admiring, he said. Kaeya frowned, but followed him. He pulled his hood up, in a subconscious effort to keep himself from looking back at the city that looked so happy.
It started to rain harder. Kaeya blinked, and looked up when the first drop hit his nose. His father had turned around, were they stopping? He said a lot that Kaeya didn't understand. Something about home, something about the gods. Something about their curse. Something about how Kaeya was their last hope. He told Kaeya to stay there, he'd be right back. Kaeya thought he understood that, at least.
He waited. He waited until the rain stopped, until the sun came up. Until it was high in the sky, and until it set again. Kaeya waited until nightfall, until he could see the lamp grass beginning to glow once more.
His father didn't come back.
Kaeya wasn't even six yet.
He was found by a man he came to know as Mr. Ragnvindr. The man had taken off his coat and quickly wrapped it around the poor, shivering boy. He'd asked if Kaeya was lost, and frowned when Kaeya told him he was waiting for his dad. He looked more worried when Kaeya told him how long he'd been waiting. Mr. Ragnvindr told him to come with him, he'd get him warmed up, with some food. Kaeya didn't want to leave. But he was hungry. So he followed.
He discovered that Mr. Ragnvindr had a son, named Diluc. The boy was extremely energetic, and friendly, and Kaeya didn't know how to feel about him at first. He was too loud. Even a little scary. But over time, he warmed up to the boy. They stayed up together, giggling under the blankets when their father would almost catch them. Kaeya came to him when he had nightmares, when the thunder got too scary, when he needed a partner in crime, when he wanted a best friend. They took him to the city he came to know as Mondstadt. It was every bit as wonderful as he thought it'd be. The people were really nice. They let him play with their pets while Master Crepus did business. He liked it here. He wanted to stay forever. He hoped he could.
Over time, he grew into a fine young man. Unfortunately, with age came the understanding of what his father had meant when he left him just outside the City of Freedom. Freedom. He wished it was a luxury he had. He remembers his 13th birthday. The day he told Mr. Ragnvindr who he was. The day he'd taken off his eyepatch, and cried like the child he thought he wasn't, and showed the father he desperately wanted to keep the curse that afflicted his skin, his eye. He remembers how the man had gently placed a hand on his hair, and told him that he was still his son. He'd cried a lot that day.
Kaeya sighs, downing his glass of whiskey-far from his first. It burns as it goes down. A nice distraction from his thoughts. He should be happy. He'd successfully completed a mission earlier, eradicating a group of hilichurls effortlessly. There had even been a Cryo Abyss mage, and he'd managed to take it down largely unscathed. It was a good day. Until he'd looked up at the night sky, and the star of Khaenri'ah had flashed before his eyes, and he'd been forced through a trip down memory lane. Until said mage had laughed, like he knew something he shouldn't. Like he knew who Kaeya was. Until he cleaned his blade, and all he saw was his own reflection.
Son of Khaenri'ah.
Spy.
Traitor.
He despised it.
He couldn't sit here anymore. Diluc's not-so-subtle glare felt like hands around his throat. A feeling he was too familiar with, for his own liking.
He took a walk.
It didn't help, at all, when he realized he'd ended up in front of the Winery. This view... it took him back. Back to seventeen. Back to running faster than his legs should take him, the other knights hot on his heels. Back to running to his older brother, his father, and skidding to a halt at the blood on the ground. To watching Diluc sobbing over the man that had raised them. It was raining, because of course it was. He should've been faster. He could have made it.
Diluc put him out of his misery.
Kaeya should have stepped forward, and cried with him. Put a hand on his shoulder. Told him everything would be okay, they'd make it through this.
He had no right to feel liberated.
He truly kept getting lower and lower.
There was so much blood.
Guilt racked his body that night, when Diluc turned to him with the last shred of hope in his eyes. The last thing he could cling to, when his world had been thrown sideways so violently. Someone he could trust.
Kaeya, wishing more than ever, more than anything that he'd been born a son of Freedom, corrected him on his mistake.
Everything in both of them shattered that night. The rain came down far more harshly, as Diluc forced him to draw his blade. He never raised a blow against his brother. Well, not his brother, anymore. How could he? Even his parries, his blocks were only instinctive. Diluc yelled at him, telling him to defend himself. To fight back. He called him a traitor. Told him to burn.
Burn he did.
He threw Kaeya down, pushing him back with a hand around his neck, and Kaeya vaguely registered flaming furniture, Ms. Adelinde's screaming, as he stared up at Diluc's blazing claymore. Diluc raised his sword, one last time. Kaeya closed his eyes. He briefly wondered if it would hurt as much as the burns. He never got the chance to find out. A flash of light, and the harsh clang of metal off of something... almost musical rang out. He looked up, and Diluc... was on the floor? His claymore was extinguished. And his gaze was on the brightly glowing Cryo Vision, hovering in the air in front of Kaeya. Kaeya stared at it, mystified, but couldn't bring himself to reach for it.
The gods just had to do it to him, didn't they?
He looked around, at the multi-faceted, shimmering, transparent shield now surrounding his body, the frost spread over the floor. Hesitantly, he reached forward to take it from the air. Was this real? The glow dulled down, and after the initial icy burn, it faded into a slight chill. He squeezed it so hard that it cut into his palm. The shield slowly flickered, and died out. He looked up, terrified that Diluc would raise his blade again. Instead, he'd settled for a quiet, murderous glare.
He told Kaeya to get the hell out of his house. Kaeya gladly obliged, for his sake, trying not to let the tears stream down his face. He didn't deserve to grieve his loss. He'd caused it, after all.
He couldn't stop himself from looking back, that time.
Kaeya had run until he collapsed, not caring where he ended up or what he ran into on his way. The rain and wind whipped around him, soaking him to his bones. He wished it would have helped, in any way. Maybe washed the filthy blood of the broken, godless, cursed nation out of him.
He was thankful, at least, that he could pretend the drops streaking down his cheeks were only water.
He found himself in front of a statue to the Anemo god, the one that overlooked the Winery. Why, he asked. Why have I been cursed with this? Why can't I belong? Why can't I be happy?
Why me?
The statue was as lifeless as ever, but he swore he felt the wind embrace him, slowly treating his injuries. Easing the pain. Memories flooded through his head, faces he hardly recognized anymore gave him rare smiles, getting up to mischief with Diluc, following Master Crepus around, dragging Jean into and out of trouble with him. Just for a moment, he belonged. Just for a moment.
Every memory he touched turned bittersweet, and he wished that he could go back to seven, to finding frogs in the creek with his big brother. To nine, finally learning how to glide. To twelve, when he'd been given his first blade, to fifteen, sleeping under the stars with his best friends. He broke down into sobs.
Why did he have to ruin everything?
He threw his Vision, watching as it clanged harmlessly off of the statue in front of him. He wanted more than anything to be able to run back to Diluc, tell him he was sorry, giggle with him in the vineyards, hide their father's things, tease him about how he'd grown up shorter. But he couldn't. He never could, not anymore. He wished he could tell his younger self it was worth it, to keep waiting or to follow the Ragnvindrs. Something.
He wished he'd run far away, as soon as his father left.
If only he'd run.
Kaeya looked up, finding himself back in front of Mondstadt's gate. His feet always led him back to the city, back to the Winery. He'd laugh, say he'd always find his way home.
He so badly wanted it to be home.
Stepping through the gate, he plastered his smile back on, pretending that he hadn't just fallen into a spiral so recently, he hadn't been thinking. He waved as he walked up the staircase. Jean had told him to come to the office, earlier. Now was as good a time as any. Maybe she'd give him some more paperwork, it'd get his mind off things.
Hopefully.
He decides to buy himself a snack, for later, while he works. It surprises him when he feels a tug on his arm. Usually he'd notice if someone approached him. Looking down, he smiles as he sees Klee, followed by Amber-who is trying desperately to keep the little girl from bubbling over, and babbling about some super duper big secret, just for him. Amber quickly shoves some flowers into his arms, with a hurried happy birthday, as she tries to quiet her down. She remembered. He laughs, and when Klee takes his hand, he follows her. He isn't expecting her to lead him back to the Knights' headquarters, and certainly isn't expecting the crowd he sees when Amber pushes open the doors. Shock floods his body, as his gaze passes over his colleagues, his friends, their siblings...
And Diluc.
He chokes back his feelings, hard. His throat is tight. Why are they here? Why is he here?
They all tell him happy birthday, and he feels tears threaten to make themselves known. They all remembered? Did Diluc tell them? Kaeya definitely didn't. Diluc looks like he isn't sure what to do with himself. Kaeya wants to tell him he doesn't have to be here if he doesn't want to. This is already enough, already enough that they remembered, already enough that they're here.
But Diluc stays, and he even smiles at Kaeya once.
He almost sobs.
Maybe, just maybe, he can belong.
