Formed in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer helped define and set new standards throughout one of the most ambitious and experimental periods in 20th-Century popular music. Drawn from The Nice, King Crimson, and Atomic Rooster respectively, they were hailed as progressive rock’s first supergroup. Combining driving dynamics, intricate arrangements, and virtuosic skill, between 1970 and 1978, ELP released seven studio recordings and three live albums. Such was their popularity on both sides of the Atlantic that their records repeatedly achieved Platinum status sales.
Titles such as Tarkus, Trilogy, and Brain Salad Surgery created distinctive worlds that incorporated soaring themes, other-worldly timbres, yearning ballads, humorous pastiche and dramatic long-form conceptual works. While they adapted pieces by classical composers as stylistically varied as Bartok, Mussorgsky, Copland, Ginastera and Rodrigo, ELP sounded like nobody else but themselves.
The trio performed live one final time at London’s High Voltage Festival in July 2010 just weeks short of their debut gig 40th anniversary.
Although Keith Emerson and Greg Lake both sadly passed away in 2016, interest in ELP continues to grow, and Carl Palmer’s own band regularly performs a setlist dedicated to the unique music he helped create. ELP's music continues to find new audiences more than 50 years from their beginning, a striking testament to the group's irrepressible blend of energy, eclecticism, and visceral excitement.

Those guys deserved each other. The musicianship of each individual deserved the musicianship of the other two. We were the beneficiaries of the greatness they provided for us.
ELP were light years ahead of their time. Their music is timeless, and will bring listening pleasure for many generations to come…
They were totally Of their time..one of the first of the Progessives...
My Goodness!!! Every time I listen to this AMAZING debut album, it seems so incredible to me how GREAT and MAGNIFICENT ELP were. These guys were under 30, and already genious.
They certainly were. All three were 25 or younger at the time of the recording in 1970.
@@tonyanderton3521 hi!! Yes, Keith was 26, Greg 23 and Carl just turned 20. Incredible!!!!!
I vividly remember when I first heard this song in 1971A friend in my dorm was a huge Keith Emerson fan and played it for a group of our friends we were stoned and blown away. I was 20 then, now I’m 73 and still getting high to ELP. Carl Palmer is an underrated rock drummer. Everyone always talks about Bonzo Bonham, Ginger Baker & Keith Moon. Keith Emerson chose Palmer for his power trio drummer. Given Emerson’s enormous talent that speaks volumes about Palmer’s skills. Now in February 2024, Carl is the sole surviving member of the group. If you ever get the chance see his band
@@taylordw I will, if they come to Argentina. At the moment it's just the US in February, and no more dates are added yet.
"The Barbarian" is a masterpiece in the history of music
X ESTE TEMA YO ME PUSE EL BARBARO¡¡¡¡
Rip Greg Lake Keith Emerson 😢🙏
And thus began one of the greatest Progressive Rock bands of all time!
Im a big fan of Bela Bartok and classical music in general. His original, Allegro Barbaro, brought me here. This is awesome and is making me want to become an ELP fan
Welcome to the tribe, son - welcome to the tribe. If you haven't yet, jump straight to the live album WELCOME BACK, MY FRIENDS... and report back.
It should be mentioned tha the author of this track is a guy named Béla Bartók.
… and the original should be listened to as well, it's good!
Is there any bojler?

Keith Emerson and Greg Lake, we miss you.
Three of the best musicians at their craft pushing each other to excellence. It was one hell of a journey, and it that journey begins with the Barbarian
I am older than this music, that never gets old.
In just one eight-bar intro, ELP shows you what they are, no question.
One If My Top Favorite Tracks In This Record...
Solid song. Solid album.
4 maggio 1973, Milano, Velodromo Vigorelli : concerto indimenticabile! ELP at their best! RIP Greg and Keith...
A friend lent me this album when we were at our last school years (1971). It became one of the first prog rock albums that I enjoyed. Even now, (50 years latter) It reminds one of my favorite albums ever.
I had that LP as a teenager. ELP, King Krimson, and Pink Floyd's Ummagumma were my first trip into Prog.
The first ever track by this great trio, all showing off their virtues. All i can say is, RIP Keith, let's hope there's the best keyboard ever up there and you get to play it lots.
Nothing compares to progressive rock.
I bought this album in 1974 (although released in 1970) - it simply blew me away! Awesome!
Love It Forever!!!
Loved this album. I was the first at my school to have this album.
Loved these guys
My favorite band.
Love this❤❤❤
ELP❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👍👍👍🇨🇦🐸
A blast beat in 1970
Awesome tracks everything is perfect. The drums is of another dimension
Adding more and more flavors to an already beautiful piece of music, also injecting more strength due to their youth age. Superb.
Fabulous!
Emerson gigantesco ❤
This is the heavy metal of the time, it’s soooo good. Way ahead of what was being done in 1970.
Esto era y es rock sinfónico!! No te confundas, llamalo como quieras.
Of course ELP is symphonic. Easy hemano, I’m just saying this is a heavy piece of music. Not trying to make a statement or opening a discussion here. Anyway, if you are a true fan like me you must have seen a documentary where Emerson tells a fun anecdote about people of the time classifying them as a heavy metal band. Probably critics.
Saludos!!

This is a great chart, but it is just a jazzed-up version of "Allegro Barbaro" by Bela Bartok. It would have been nice if Keith had given a shout-out to Bela, but he didn't. Hear for yourself: ua-cam.com/video/cgzLUNc448k/v-deo.html Also note that "Knife Edge" on the same album is a reworking of Janáček's "Sinfonietta."
one epic tune !
