Absolutely love this piece. I can't wait till I have enough to buy a baroque lute. I've wanted one since middle school. I would play arrangements of weiss on my classical guitar but it was never the same. You can't get those beautiful resonant bass notes or the deep timbre of the lute on a guitar.

get an 8 string guitar and save yourself some misery. Lutes are pains in the ass to maintain and keep in tune.

Disregard the comment about the guitar, you cannot play Baroque lute repertoire well on an 8 string guitar and like you already seem to know, it also doesn't sound right on a guitar, it's too bassy and muddy.
Did you end up getting a Baroque lute? Make sure you get a good teacher as the instrument can still be very intimidating even if you're an experienced guitarist. Also you won't get the "real" lute sound and it will be difficult to play if you use guitar technique.

The whole piece is beautiful, but I especially like the funky bit beginning at 2:34

great performance of one of my highest favourites! thank you (although it´s a pitty with that sound quality). this piece works also comfortble on a theorbo (in a suitable key) ;-)) - best regards from Berlin, especially to the artist - Siegfried Andreae
