I'm curious if the two absolute best of the sport could have a gentleman's agreement to play to a point splitting the games, like say to 8 or 10. And then have the real contest be a best of 9. I am sure that as far as promotions go that the longer the finals go the better it is for the sport and the more everyone involved makes. Plus more matches means more chances for each to increase their own stats... centuries etc...
I do not feel that it would be a cheat or "fixing" for that matter. Just a way to put more excitement into the sport. It would definitely be more entertaining watching 15 to 19 matches then it would be to watch 10 or 12 with a run away win for either of them. As someone that has played pool for over 4 decades I have played for 6 to 8 hours straight in a day numbers of times. Sometimes you are only getting more and more into it other times even when being spot on you get bored, even when winning. So that would make the real number of games that matter much lower and give you a chance to get in stroke and almost not need to address the ball, just get down and sink them.
