    Having worked on a bunch of these over my 67 years, sometimes you can just buy a new carb for very little more than the gasket kits and the new one comes with gaskets.

      I bought an old tiller with this motor on it that was surging and running badly. I just put a new ebay carburetor on it and it runs better,but still surges. Could the governor need adjustment, or do you know what else I could do? I used new gaskets and fresh 89 octane fuel.

      robertson mine has what they called a pulse jet( I think) carburetor on it. It bolts directly to the steel tank and draws fuel up its tube and puts it into a bowl built into the tank and then it can draw it into the motor. On mine the bowl was rusted out. I tried cleaning it up and using jb weld, but it's full of pin holes and the fuel drains back into the bottom of the tank. I couldnt find a suitable replacement tank. I ending up getting a 6.5hp predator engine from harbor freight. I had to Biden out my mounting holes and redo the way the tension pulley mounts. The surging is a sure sign of a lean running condition or faulty governor. I did check my governor and it was adjusted properly.

    I’m not sure, if this helps. I been using my fathers tiller since he got it 10+ years ago for our garden. I think it’s normal the engine idles rough like that. The engine needs that little extra when it start feeling resistance. My problem this year for our garden was that the tiller idles softer and no longer *hunts* for gas. She does dig in the ground but the amount of man force it’s required to dig a little deeper and/or climb out the hole is a lot more wear on the body. I’m need that engine hunting, it’s what tillers do. Idk nothing though.

    I just did everything you did in this video and the surging is gone. However, it's still a pain in the ass to get started. I didn't replace that diaphragm gasket and it looked "trampolined" like yours and is "stiff-ish". Could this gasket cause a really hard starting? The tiller works fine if I quickly throttle it up after starting AND open the choke all the way, otherwise it will die. It will not idle after start... it will run for about 5-7 seconds then die off. I can't figure it out. Any advice would be great, thanks.

      The diaphragm is a fuel pump. It moves fuel from the tank to the little cup directly under the short pickup tube. Without fuel in that cup, they are a bear to start.

    aah, that is the style air cleaner n throttle I need as I got a new carb for my tiller it was different than yours,, carb I ended up with is just like that so need that throttle/choke setup and the air cleaner, as I could not find any cleaners with that spacing...

I already robbed the fuel pickup filter for another tiller and wondering if I could just put some hose and drop a stone style filter like on a weed eater into tank instead.. then have a better filter I could change.. anyone try that?

      @@Fentertainment I'll fiddle with it some tomorrow, but I've got a feeling it's not gonna fix it. Seems strange that both carbs run basically the same. There was some rust in the tank and the guy I bought it from said he rebuilt the carburetor. When I removed it he'd taken the screen off the bottom of the pump and it'd sucked up all kinds of debris. I cleaned the tank out with vinegar while I was waiting on my new carburetor to arrive.

    • @Fentertainment
      @Fentertainment  2 роки тому +1

      @@ciphercode2298 Those old briggs tanks are notorious to rusting and if the carburetor did get any rust in the carburetor then it could obstruct fuel. I have a tank here that my neighbor tried to use vinegar in but the tank was too far gone before he did that. I looked for a used tank on ebay but he didnt want to pay those prices.

    • @ciphercode2298
      @ciphercode2298 2 роки тому

      @@Fentertainment mine wasnt real bad. Probably woulda been ok if he hadn't taken the screen off the bottom of the pickup tube. Looked like they'd left the tiller just sitting out in the open all the time. I'll get it figured out,its just frustrating not knowing which direction to take. I dont mind fixin stuff,as long as I can diagnose the problems.
