    I'm not surprised that Lloyd George trusted Haig more on the Royal Navy than on the Western Front. "Where you stand depends on where you sit." Haig opposed any effort that wasn't on the Western Front because his position concentrated his focus there. You don't see theater commanders saying, "You know, this is really a backwater, so you should take some of my forces away and call off my operations."
    On the other hand, Haig could take an objective view of the internal organization of the RN and its general situation. Anyone within the RN would most likely share its institutional attitudes.
