Wonderful music beautifully played! An example of the meeting of two minds of great musical intelligence and passion: Johann Sebastian Bach and Frederic Chiu. Thank you for this gift, both of you...
I had the opportunity of hearing him perform this work live in Des Moines. What an incredible concert...Another thing he played at that concert was the Liszt transcription of Beethoven's 5th! it was amazing
Wow, you are a real inspiration. I have never taken on composing, but only performing. But the strange thing, is that almost every great performer was a composer too. Schumann, Bach, Liszt, Beethoven, Cziffra. I like the way you transcribed the piece.
Unbelievable. Brilliantly transcribed and exquisitely played. A real joy to listen to. My sincerest congratulations for your sensibility and dedication!!
My compliments on this great transcript and performance of this Bach's masterpiece. My first reaction was: I want to learn to play it too and was happy when I found out that I can order the score from your website.
Отличная транскрипция, великолепное исполнение! Благодарю от души. Браво!! Excellent transcription, great interpretation! Thank you from the heart. Bravo!!
Just insanely good. I wouldn't say it's *better* than the original, but it brings out a gentleness in the score that's not apparent in most interpretations. It also allows amateurs like me to see the interplay between the two main melodies (volin and vocal) more clearly.
Definitely highlights the interplay between voice and violin, one which is really not apparent in some 80% of the recordings of this masterpiece. Masterful transcription indeed.
I did some years ago the reduction for piano of the Final Choral of the St Matthew Passion ( for myself ). It's really a extraordinary J S Bach's composition.
In Bach there's the biggest difference between what's potentially in the score and what a single instrumentation can bring out, so more transcriptions are needed, BADLY. There are 1080 BWV's, life is short and work is aplenty.
Wonderful transcription and performance! Without knowing your background, it's quite apparent your training is connected to the Russian school of piano playing.
Very nice, and I agree with ernent that there should be more transcriptions. It would be great to play the opening choir: check the weird chords in that. Should sound great. However this is pretty cool too. Many compliments Frederic, and thanks for posting. The music world once again became richer.

Thank you ! I keep listening to your performance. Would you please tell me which notation program do you use? I have already seen the animated score. If you ever perform in the Detroit area, I would love to come hear you.
Hi Frederic, I listen to your piano rendition almost daily. Do you belong to, or are part of, a musical non profit organization? ... if so, I would like to contribute to it. How would I go about doing so, while keeping my personal information off this site? Also, if you ever perform within a 3 hour drive of Detroit, I would love to hear you in person.
It's uncanny how one of the most ethereally sublime arias ever written can be made to sound as mono-dimensional and mechanical as a clockwork toy. I now look forward to a transcription of Strauss' four last songs for nose flute . . .
Without wishing to labour the point, it renders musical language into a kind of pidgin. There's more than a change of timbre here. It now has the allure of a midi file on a mobile phone . . . no offence!
@Comodusprimus : would love to judge your own hard work on this piece - rather than witnessing your free ride on some elses hardship and talent. Shame.
Chiu is more than a pianist. He is able to paint the picture in his head.
I'm glad I found this video.
Sehr schön! Lindo demais.
Wonderful music beautifully played! An example of the meeting of two minds of great musical intelligence and passion: Johann Sebastian Bach and Frederic Chiu. Thank you for this gift, both of you...
One of my ever favourites. Modest and precisely devoted. Bach just like he meant it.

Какое счастье! Спасибо за Ваш труд и игру! Низкий поклон.
Gorgeous , stunning, pristine performance of a beautifully made transcription!🎹🎵💕🎹
The beauty of the Baroque masters is that their music can be performed by any instrument -- or voice. Thank you for bringing this truth home!
OH! Very beautiful! Bravo for the transcription and the playing!
infiniment forte, émouvante, exaltante cette interprétation du génie de Bach
Magnific. Bach and Frederic.
Merveilleuse, la transcription et le jeu de piano, je suis heureuse de découvrir Frédéric Chiu
Um casamento perfeito entre Frederic Chiu e Bach. Belíssima interpretação. Grato.
Very good and interesting transcription and wonderfully played! I love the way you bring out the voices and colours + the balance. Fantastic job!

I use both Sibelius and MuseScore. For the Bach, I used MuseScore.
I will be happy to put you on my Detroit area mailing list!
I would love to sign up. Please let me know how to do this.

@jcracker - such erudition - you're not the music critic for the Daily Star are you?
the link for the score doesn't work anymore - where can I download it? Thanks in advance
Thank you for the heads up. I've updated the link in the notes. And here it is too: www.fredericchiu.com/copy-of-albums
How can I find the free music sheets- adapted for piano - of this masterpiece? Do you have an idea?
fredericchiu.com/EN/Store.html Thank you!
@Comodusprimus Come on, here we have *one* piano substituting a whole orchestra. Can you do any better?
Genes for music, intelligence, and hard work have been known to be lost... ... sigh...
