Hey Joe , I've recently completed my run in with the Canadian legal system for the last 4 years. I am currently on parole and will be completing my probation. Let me know if you'd like some info if you plan on doing a Canadian episode , I watched your show before going in and it helped but there are some major differences between the states and Canada in regards to the prison system and I am sure many of your Canadian viewers would be interested. Thank you.
Shea M what's so different?
It varies greatly between provincial and federal , province to province and even prison to prison. The prison I was in didn't even allow us to have pillows and would take away any clothing we used as a pillow. You are in a "range" with up to 31 other guys and those are the only other prisoners you interact with. Everything is done on your "range" You eat , workout , shower,socialize , everything. We have one 27 inch tv with 6 channels for 32 guys , you can forget about ordering ps2's or anything like that. Its so bare bones in Ontario, you get nothing except for what you need to survive. I can go into much more detail. Fights were mandatory , every friday night was "fight night" you had to fight someone your own age or size and you fought until someone drew blood. If you did not fight , you had to go to PC.
@@sheam2053 Fuck, we were pampered in Quebec provincial jails :P We had two tv's with pretty much every channel (heck, we even had The Movie Network AND its French equivalent). We didn't have pillows, but could buy one - but if you stuffed it with clothes, it would be confiscated if found. We didn't have game consoles - though there used to be some about a year before I got in. There were a bunch of board games though - I became a really good Scrabble player during my stint :P And we didn't have mandatory fights either :P But yah, everything was done in our "range" (which we called "wings")
Oh, and during hockey season, one TV was dedicated to the Habs games. You did NOT want to argue about that :P

I heard that one the last time I went to jail (back in 2011). Oddly enough, it wasn't some random guy telling me. I ran into a buddy of mine, in there, and one of the first things he said after the whole "Skyler! What are you doing here!?" was "Oh, dude, don't write your name anywhere..."

You don't write your name on the wall, because you're coming back, always going to be in jail.
Same with NOT finishing a book while in prison. NEVER open a new book before you leave. If you don't finish the book and get released, you will be back to finish the book.
Last prison legend I can remember is, you NEVER take ANYTHING home with you. LEAVE IT ALL BEHIND YOU. LEAVE PRISON BEHIND, that includes your possessions.

Well, I didn't finish my book when I got out (it was A Feast for Crows). I had a hundred pages left to go. But I guess I broke the curse cuz my mom bought me the whole "A Song of Ice and Fire" collection for my birthday, so I finished the book before anything bad could happen :)

The first one actually happened to me. I was in a jail called Surrey Pre Trial wrote my name on the bottom of the bunk.Three weeks after I got out I ended up right back in Surrey Pre Trial on the same unit and the same dam cell. What luck.

Hot dogs and such, in women's prisons are not cut or chopped up in any way. The concept of doing so is most definitely something made up in the minds of a male prison population. Biologically speaking, those over-boiled, mushy things, prisons call, "hot dogs," would not make it past the first trip inside the tunnel - much less repeated visits - if you catch my drift. Realistically, the end result of trying such a thing would end up with a visit to a medical ward; with a nurse trying to remove a piece of a hot dog, lodged inside a place a hot dog was not intended to be. Besides, there are several different options - which are MUCH more appropriate, MUCH safer to utilize and will last for many many repeated uses. As to what those options are... think about it, for a while. I'm sure you will come up with one or two things.

Sooo, i can confirm for at least the MICHIGAN DEPT OF CORRECTIONS, specifically the TWO different state prisons i had the misfortune of spending time with... and approximately five different country jails- WE DID NOT HAVE OUR HOT DOGS, SAUSAGES, BANANAS, OR ANY OTHER LONG TUBULAR SHAPED FOODS CUT UP, LOL!

Sharon i was in a prison in Australia that housed men and women and i worked in the kitchen and i promise you that we were forced to cut all the sausages bound for the girls section in half. ..

I've never been to prison, but I have been to County. I'm a woman and the trustees prepared all the meals served in the jail. Let's just say we knew when they were feeling lazy on hot dog day... or getting the toothbrush holder thingy on commissary. Yeah... THAT one, the ones that hold the ENTIRE toothbrush 😯😒

He probably doesn't know much about those. He speaks of american prisons(and Virginia prisons in particular) because he has personal experiences from those. Storys from european prisons would just be what he found online and wouldn't be that interesting.

Another great video Joe, Heard about the first urban legend by three days in my first time being locked up when I was tagging my bunk. Must have thought about it a little too much that night cause the next day I scratched my name back out. LOL. It's always great to see someone else trying to do right and not fall back in the old lifestyle. I'm proud to be able to say that I finally completed my probation back in April and in just a few years I went from starting at the bottom at a furniture factory and now they've got me running half the place. Feels amazing to have gone from being a criminal and an addict to being part in charge of a multi million dollar company. Watching your videos really makes me think about how much I don't want to go back to where I was. It has also inspired me to try to be a mentor to people I used to run around with that are finishing up their prison terms and trying to do right ,including my sister( she got out last week and is doing well so far). But anyway I think you're doing a good thing Joe keep it up and stay out of trouble brother.
