I almost started hyperventilating when I saw Arrow was doing a 4k release of this. This film is a one of a kind gem. Arrow is embarrassing the competition this year
Glad to hear it's that good. I remember seeing it and my young mind was mesmerized by her in 1968/69. I was hoping this very colorful movie would be a great 4K.
I love the original poster art for it but have to say the new package art & design is great too. I'm happy with it the way it is with the cardboard cover with new art and the box cover using the original poster art. Arrow really knocked it out of the park with this set. This is just an A+ release from all accounts.
Yes Ken -- this movie is exactly where Duran Duran got their name from. Specifically from that character Dr. Durand-Durand. I was wondering if that was gonna come up in the video lol. (I'm a big fan of the band)
Jane Fonda was married to Roger Vadim when this film was made. That's how she wound up in it. She agreed to be in it only if he could direct it. I have the Arrow store exclusive on order. Glad to hear Arrow knocked it out of the park again.
Looking forward to this release, definitely picking it up. Loved the original French Barbarella comics but there are zillions of Barbarella comics now from Dynamite (weirdly combined with Vampirella, Riverdale, Dejah Thoris, Red Sonja etc)
Ken, you mentioned you have not seen Jane Fonda‘s older work a couple of movies you might want consider checking out if you haven’t already are The Electric Horseman (1978), 9 to 5 (1980) Rollover (1981), and On Golden Pond. (1982). Happy viewing!!
I agree with you on ALL points you make my brother - I pre-ordered this thinking “meh.” Never heard of it, I like sci-fi, and I love what Arrow is doing so I ordered it. OMG did this BLOW me away! Jane Fonda was WOW GORGEOUS in this and my goodness the set design with those colors! This was my surprise of the year thus far! Thanks for covering. The movie itself is entertaining - like you said, it’s not a “masterpiece” but a very fun entertaining film. This one is well-worth the purchase for Barbarella nostalgic fans and 4k lovers alike!
Glad to hear you liked this one and it looks great. I don't know how I've missed this movie all the years I watched 50-60s films genre films. I'll likely get this once a regular case version comes.
I kid you not, but I had never seen this film before, and downloaded a digital version this morning and after the first 10 minutes I was online trying to find a copy. There was a really nice looking single bluray Australian release which I was going to get, but once I saw this Arrow 4k set I had to have it. This one will go great next to the upcoming Umbrella boxset of Tank Girl
I remember watching this for the first time a few years ago. I loved it, it’s very interesting. Can’t wait to get mine soon, I got the original artwork version and if I remember correctly it’s got the actor who was the main character in Dario Argento’s Deep Red! But I think he plays a very minor role, I don’t remember since it’s been so long since I’ve last seen it
This is a movie I couldn’t pass up on and with Arrow doing it yea I knew they wouldn’t hold out on making this a great release. I can’t wait to see it. I’m with you Ken, Arrow has been making a killing this entire year, now bring on Tremors 2 lol.
I see this for sale, but confused with Arrow's reply below as Arrow Films is a British independent film distributor and restorer specialising in world cinema, arthouse, horror and classic films... Sent by: You, 26 November 2023, 21:02 Where is the Arrow Video/Films Barbarella 4K release? Sent by: Arrow Films UK, 27 November 2023, 11:16 Thank you for getting in touch. this is just another great release from arrow, with one month to go before end of year nobody is going to top them for boutique of the year they aremy pick for #1 the biggest disappointment is vinegar syndrome after having a solid last year where i bought 10 titles almost one a month this year i was disappointed
First of all.. how in the world can you be in the world of movies and have never taken the time to watch Barbarella. Doesn't make sense lol. But yes this set is amazing!! I went with the original classic artwork... still waiting for it to arrive though.
I just preordered the second saw your video. $75 canadian dollars. Have the bluray. Since many has a kid on tv back than... lolll your points of view on it 😂 the movie.
Definitely plan to pick this up, it's a great, fun, silly space sex comedy but it's very enjoyable and lovely to look at. I'll probably get the original poster version. I'll probably do the same for Carlitos Way and so may as well grab both of those and throw in Witness which is another film I quite enjoy.
I'm now suffering some serious FOMO. I don't really want the limited edition with the big book and all those extra features. But I definitely do want the 4K version of this film at some point - even more so after seeing this review. Do I dare wait for a standard edition? 🤔
I almost thought this was a day 1 purchase for me. But then I got to thinking that I am not sure I even like the film. It is interesting to a point but it is a pretty lackluster film in terms of depth.
@MidLevelMedia 7:14 Let's put it this way: If it wasn't for the fact that Jane Fonda was so utterly beautiful & charming in this film, she wouldn't have had the career that she got later. Her knocking down the film that made her famous is hypocrisy at its very finest.

It's so good!
Yes, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor did name their band, Duran Duran, after Dr. Durand Durand :)
Glad to hear it's that good. I remember seeing it and my young mind was mesmerized by her in 1968/69. I was hoping this very colorful movie would be a great 4K.

Can't wait for my copy!
saw bits and pieces back in the day. finally saw the whole thing about a year ago. crazy fantasy science fiction movie.
She was married to Roger Vadim at the time they made the film
Jane Fonda was also in The China Syndrome with Michael Douglas and Jack Lemmon. Pretty good thriller. I'd spring for a 4K of that...

You'll be very happy with this edition!
I bought one of the very last copies of this. So glad I put in an order a week or so ago. I checked the very next day and they were sold out
Nice! Glad to hear you got one!
Great Review Ken!💯 I can't wait to get my Barbarella cheese and of course some Jane Fonda old skool T&A...👀👀🙌
Ken, youre an hilarious dude 😂
YES! Duran Duran did get their name from this movie:)
Absolute Classic ....the film set is soo trippy 😅 and costumes smokin hot.
Duran Duran also has a song called 'Electric Barbarella.'
I got my preorder in. Been watching this campy goodness since teenage years. Glad to hear a super positive review!
Crazy film glad this transfer looks good hopefully I'll pick it up sometime in the future

Great review Ken with the 4k pictures included wasn't planning on picking this one up but now you sold me on it.

I love the girth

Such a fun movie!
Bro I can't wait for this months audit LMAO
He gonna just mumble a bit and blow by this one 😂
I think this was a review copy. So it was free

I pre-ordered it the day you first talked about it coming out so I can hardly wait to get my copy
Thanks for the review and unboxing 👍
I don't know if I like a bigger book, I prefer slim boxes.
Yes Duran Duran named their band after the movie. They just changed the spelling most likely for legal reasons.
Great 4K love Barbarella!! Hey have you seen Wargames (1983) with Mathew Broderick 4K transfer and 5.1 mix is awesome!!
I've been wanting to get some Jane Fonda on 4k and this is excellent. Cat Ballou would also interest me
Yes, the band Duran Duran took their name from the movie Barbarella. In fact, Duran Duran used to call themselves "The Barbarellas"
The band Duran Duran did 100% did get their name from Durand Durand in it.
This is a movie I couldn’t pass up on and with Arrow doing it yea I knew they wouldn’t hold out on making this a great release. I can’t wait to see it. I’m with you Ken, Arrow has been making a killing this entire year, now bring on Tremors 2 lol.

Reviewing films without knowing who any of the players are is a bit of a damp squib, sir. Research, research, reasearch

My chubby toads are named Barbarella & Duran Duran.
@@wesleywouldifhecouldThat is hilarious 😆
Because I don't like space movies. Especially before the 2010s
no one asked you #thirsty@@WhirlingMusic

Hey. Did you buy this off amazon or diabolic dvd? Because I just ordered mine off amazon. Thanks.
I only just watched this film last year. I felt it was basically porn without the sex scenes. And yes, this is where Duran Duran got their name from.
It's freakin GORGEOUS.
you're gorgeous.
I'm now suffering some serious FOMO. I don't really want the limited edition with the big book and all those extra features. But I definitely do want the 4K version of this film at some point - even more so after seeing this review.

I saw "Barbarella" upon its release in 1968. It was a big box office hit. It's not a serious sci-fi. It's a psychedelic film.
Absolutely! I loved it!
I almost thought this was a day 1 purchase for me. But then I got to thinking that I am not sure I even like the film. It is interesting to a point but it is a pretty lackluster film in terms of depth.
No depth. All surface, but it's fantastic
"she looks good" just that? she looks damn delicious! a babe!
Is this one of those "it's so bad, it's good" movies? seems like one may only enjoy it high.
@MidLevelMedia 7:14 Let's put it this way: If it wasn't for the fact that Jane Fonda was so utterly beautiful & charming in this film, she wouldn't have had the career that she got later. Her knocking down the film that made her famous is hypocrisy at its very finest.
Very sad indeed. I hate when actors can't respect their own legacy.
You think Black Friday will bring the price down at all?
This is film is so bad it becomes good. It's the definition of what guilty pleasure means.
Is there nothing that’s too despicable to prevent thirsty middle age guys from buying old movies of an actress?
This movie sounds like an easy skip
De LaurentIS not De Laurento Ken. You’re terrible with names and places… although not on the scale of getting the wrong country for The Wicker Man 😂
Wow you will buy anything these days LOL
The hazards of being a 4K collector.
Jane Fonda…. Pass
America hating and traiter during the VietNam war Jane Fonda is the reason I will never watch this movie.
