Love that feeling. I actually still have a tape in mind I got back in the early '00s made by some dudes from Oxnard that I suspect was madlib(sound like early loot pack), but still cant seem to find who it was.
This track is a remix of Young Warrior, a track recorded by Bobbi Humphrey in sessions for her 1974 album "Satin Doll", but which never ended up being released by Blue Note. It also features a sample of her 1975 track "Please Set Me At Ease" at the start, which Madlib also remixed in the album this 12" single was promoting, "Shades of Blue". This is what it says on the label: "Originally recorded (but never released) as a Mizell brothers production for the BOBBI HUMPHREY Satin Doll sessions".
@@julianhorodyski6414 Nah, there's a comment from Bobbi Humphrey right here under this video stating that this is in fact NOT her original version. Would be interesting to know if Madlib added any original playing to this. The playing sounds a lot like the original Satin Doll sessions (albeit mixed very differently)
For those who care - "NR Time", credited to Mizellstory, is the other "previously unreleased" track from the "Satin Doll" sessions. Look for that as well. It has vocals by Talita Long, the mother of actress Nia Long.
😍 this track is sick and I have never gotten tired of it...conducive for work outs, driving, or just lounging. Speed it up by about 50 BPMs and we have a nice DnB (liquid funk) version. 😀
@@bobbihumphrey Can you speak to what's different between your original and this, of course aside from your flute track(s)? The word "remix" in this context feels like Madlib just added compression to what was already recorded by your band from the "Satin Doll" session.
By far Madlib's best production, in my opinion. One of my favorite songs. Amazing what he can do when he stops making music about smoking weed and black stereotypes.
real music... dont let them take it away from us. spread it. love it. share it. :D
Had this on cassette tape, dubbed off the radio for over 12 years and never knew who it was......till now.
