As for the Save Erasing glitch, I can tell you that it happened to me and my friends MANY times. It even happened mid-match! We all had our own CAWs, and during the entrance, one of our CAWs came out wearing only black underwear, pale skin, and had The Rock's face. And on top of that, the blank CAW didn't even have a walk animation. He was just in an idle pose, and glided into the ring. And there was no theme music. It was creepy. When the match started, the CAW was back to normal, but when the match was over, all of our CAWs and progress in the game had been deleted. So yes, the Save Erase glitch was common.

I remember picking up the game the week it came out, but it was only at a shop (Software Etc.) 30 miles across town. I didn't have a car or license yet, so I took a 90-minute bus ride there and back home to pick it up. It was still worth it, of course: Exhibition title defenses, champions coming out wearing belts, only added to the already excellent gameplay and story modes. The only downside other than the occasional game slowdowns during some matches were no entrances all the way to the ring. Also, the legendary menu screen music stuck in our heads forever: Dig, dig, dig dig-diggety-dog!
Watching this in my late 30s and you completely nailed it. The game was amazing, but it was the time that surrounded it we all miss... I know I do for sure. Damn near brought to tears with this video.
This game has a special place in my collection. The summer before the 9th grade an electrical fire started in my room due to faulty wiring. It destroyed everything but I went back in the next day to find the N64 half melted with No Mercy in it. I pulled the game out and it's only melted in the corner and still works to this day!! It's crazy how that happened but it's true.
Wow this game bring back so many awesome times I remember in Christmas back in 2000 no mercy and lot of new new games me and my brothers was so happy to get this game it was awesome thank you 🎅 and mom and dad good times good times.
Once again: thanks for this awesome ride down the memory lane. :) back in the day I was a Smackdown! PlayStation guy (already sold my N64) but always wanted to play the N64 WWE Games.
The save wipe glitch was a very real problem for me, I even had a little blue notebook that I wrote in all my preferred character edits, so I could recreate them any time the game reset, e.g. unmasking Kane; shaving Kurt Angle's head; instead of "Devon" and "Buh Buh Ray" (which I always thought were really stupid) changing them to "D-Von" and "Bubba Ray"; skin-colour ring attire for the Divas; you know, the usual things!
One of my all time favorites! Right up there with Goldeneye for me and my friends. Good times! I really miss those days. You did a fantastic job capturing all that in this video. Well done!
My prayers have been answered the best wrestling game retrospective show has finally returned to UA-cam lol… praise be to the one and only true all mighty, Sal Melendez and his illegitimate child for answering all of my prayers
I think more people need to admit that nostalgia can never TRULY be recapured. I have great memories of D&D sleepovers and playing WCW vs nWo World Tour late at night after D&D. Yes the game was fun, but it was my friends that made it. WWF Warzone on retrospect is ass, but I played it with my best friends (all the CAWs were in DX) so I can never truly hate the game. It's like when I went to my 20 year high school reunion in 2019. Was it fun seeing some folks? Sure.. but all my closest friends had long since moved all over the country and weren't there, so I left just kinda feeling sad because you can't ever get those days back.
I like how you illustrate how this is better than SmackDown 1&2 (CPU wrestlers not selling shit, the crappy SD ladder matches, etc) but I did NOT care for No Mercy's cage match since you cannot jump off the top of the cage and that's the most important feature in a cage match to me. But yeah the "run the guy across the ring and throw them into the cage" move in NM was awesome.
One of my earliest memories ever was Xmas 2000 when my older brother got the game. He loved being Perry Saturn in the wwf title mode as his sweep kick eliminates other wresters easily in Royal Rumble mode.
Hey sir, it is 2023 and a couple of days ago i've bought myself a nintendo 64 on ebay. It will be my first N64 ever. I bought also WCW World Tour and WCW Revenge. No Mercy will be the next game i will order :). Welcome back dude!!!! I have been missing your wrestling focused videos bro! Also, I want to thank you for joining AFS back 2+ years ago for the wrestling game episode, I was one of the ones AFS Top Guys who has the honor of being part of the episode with you all. I had an absolute fucking blast & loved it! I wish it was still a show or perk for AFS Top Guys & Gals, dude! I have been trying to find it to show my girlfriend because we taped it before her and I had even met (we met at the All Out 2021 PPV which of course was over Top Guy Weekend); but yeah,I was telling her how knowledgeable you were on the wrestling genre of games, how chill you were & how much fun I had with all of you all. Meeting the THQ employee was cool at too. Dude was the reason I had so many great memories of playing video games against my cousins for so many years as a kid and I owe that man an insane amount of gratitude. Thanks for always having kick ass content, being cool af; and for always having some cool, lesser known facts about the game(s) you’re covering. Some of these facts & really rare tidbits of knowledge all whether they are digital or physical artifacts will one day be lost for good if we don not document & preserve them…and so with that I want to say thank you for doing your part to make sure they are not lost! Oh shif! You mentioned Sanders, that’s the THQ dude I was just talking about lol. Cool shit man. Thanks again dude. Keep up the amazing work. I’m gonna jump on your Patreon this weekend once I cancel some shit I no longer actively partake in. Out with the old and in with the new and damn side better! Cheers & thanks again!
Still have my original copy of No Mercy, and it still works. I'm a little older, but man I was so excited when this came out! The hours I put into this, man! Good times 👍🏼
I had a first off the line copy that suffered the save wipe. It didn’t just wipe though, it totally corrupted. It replaced most character pictures with Andre the Giant, none of your story’s were playable, and all your CAWs were gone.
You could grab weapons from the side of the stages and specifically behind the sandbags at Armageddon. You could pull weapons from the lockers/cubbies as well.
The point at the end is beautiful. The 64 sleepovers were priceless, Smashbros, Mario Kart, maybe some goldeneye or mario party, but definitely No Mercy.
Thanks brudda, I'm happy to be working on it again. When I ended Season 2, I didn't expect 2 years to go by before I started Season 3. Where does the time go? Either way, I'm happy to be working on wrestling game retrospectives again. And this is my biggest hit in a while, so it seems like it was a good idea. =)
The career mode was ridiculously hard at certain points, namely the handicap matches against the A.P.A. and DX. I remember yelling at the screen in frustration as a kid, prompting my dad to run in and look at me as if I were possessed.
I was a playstation kid and knew nobody with an N64 so i didn't get to experience no mercy in its prime but smackdown Here comes the pain and Smackdown vs raw 2006 were my pre teens/teenage years with friends over at the weekend with pizza junk food and all night gaming sessions... Those were the days
Nostalgia is a major factor but I also have a lot more fun with the gameplay of the older games because they actually work as intended. These 2k games have incredible presentation but are full of bugs. These videos are dope
The game itself already has a ton of replayability, but with the insane number and quality of mods out there have just kept this game going, and going, and going... and going
I’m glad you covered this wonderful gem from the blast. The memory wipe thing happened to me and it occurred at a bad time when I was doing my e-fed years ago. It caused me to nearly quit until Here Comes The Pain came into play. But still, No Mercy was just so much fun and brings back wonderful memories with me and my friends playing against one another like we were our own wrestling fed.
Ian, the bar is literally the Friendly Tap! 🙃😂I saw someone call it that on Reddit so I looked up some old APA and Stone Cold promo on UA-cam. The strange picture with afro, the Jukebox, the blue glowing lava lamp looking thing and that little slot machine looking thing next to it, the dartboard (No one tell BCC) the TV in the corner, the position of the bar, the stereo and most importantly the odd rectangular ceiling tiles are directly from the Friendly Tap. I can't see it, but I bet the picture in the corner facing the doorway is low rez mock up of the Hogan/Andre WrestleMania poster like in Tim White's real bar. (RIP) It's so amazing how they used to go the extra mile back then. I imagine AKI surprised THQ with this. Or THQ would tell Yuke's to do some backstages and they'd check the current build it's like 34th Street, Penn Station and the MSG rotunda lmao. I just want connected backstages and interactive moves back please 2K/Visual Concepts and THQ Nordic/Yuke's (AEW Fight Forever) Also I believe Deadlock were selling those AKI neon signs for a bit. I bought the pin because they were sold out but it got lost in the mail. :( You could pull the weapons from the bar and place them on the pool table as well.
19:20 this game is what got me into wrestling. It takes me back to a time playing this game with my cousin and friends at the time. I was in elementary school and N64 was life. I really just played Survival Mode over and over to get money to unlock everything. Eventually I even got enough to unlock the Ho, it was insane. The nostalgia talk is real though, I can go play this game again right now but it's not the same because my cousin and my childhood friends aren't here with me anymore. It's a different time, it's a different world. I'm just happy I got to experience it when I did. 17:58 after putting countless hours into the game, this happened to my copy of the game so I must've had one of the early cartridges, which sucks. No Mercy is such a good game though, I didn't mind doing it again.
Finally the best wrestling retrospective series has come back to UA-cam. So many good memories with this classic. I got my cib version sitting next to my cib RE2 and they're sitting next to my cib N64! Much love from Canada! #respect.
Still the best gameplay of any wrestling game ever made! Simple yet scientific controls made for some truly epic matches. I’d love for someone to bring that back!
Thank you for not only making this awesome Video over one of the best Wrestling Games ever, specially for being such an great Guy! Keep up the great Work my Friend 🙌🏼
The triumphant return of Triangle X Squared O 🎉 So glad to have this one back 🥳 Like yourself, I didn’t grow up with a Nintendo 64, so any games exclusive to that console were experienced at the homes of friends and neighbors. In terms of the AKI games, I was thankfully able to experience WCW/nWo Revenge and Wrestlemania 2000, but unfortunately, none of friends at that time had No Mercy. I still don’t have an N64, so I don’t know if I’ll ever have the opportunity to play this game, sadly.
Thanks for watching brudda. I HIGHLY recommend grabbing an N64 on eBay or something. Some great games you should totally experience! Thanks for the contniued support.
I was around 4 months old when this game came out, but even though I couldn't have played it when it first came out, I completely agree that No Mercy is one of the greatest wrestling games (and one of the greatest N64 games) of all time
Honestly, No Mercy has the most replay value of any game I have ever owned. Whether you challenge yourself in Survival, the Championship stories, a Royal Rumble or doing 1V1 or multiplayer. It is pick up and play value is through the roof and introducing it to my son over the last 3 years has been one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Playing this game on an emulator (Project 64) is also fun with the addition of the Z ladder function where any match can have a ladder introduced as a weapon and you can also win with said ladder even if it was not a ladder match. Not to mention the countless mods (shout out WCW Feel the Bang). I have to confess that my copy from EBay was a copy where I experienced the save-wipe glitch. However, I was fortunate that it wiped the original owner's save file, so here's hoping mine doesn't wipe anytime soon LOL.
I was in my early 20s when this game dropped. Being out on my own for the first time...havin the buds over on a weekend night...and stayin up to the wee AM hours slamming each other around the ring 😅❤ The best thing about No Mercy was how accurately me and my friends were able to create virtual representations of ourselves 😁
I own every wrestling game for N64 and still have it hooked up in my living room. Dig dig diggity dawg!!! I have so many hilarious custom characters across MANY controller packs. Even letting AI fight each other can be so much fun with friends.
Awesome review, and look back at what made games back in the day fun: physically hanging out with friends. Also great message at the end man, keep up the great content!
That and I can't believe that I forgot about the Cena vs Eddie match on SmackDown a long time ago, Jarrett vs Angle, and Shamrock vs Blackman. Well, I was thinking about it in 2000 eyes than 2023 eyes if that makes sense.
The fact that it's still being modded and updated, someone even using the assets to make an aew variant says a lot about how good the bones of the game are
Sir you just gave me ptsd, in my life I owned 6 different copies of no mercy and ALL 6 had the save wipe bug. Great video as always Ian and what a way to kick off season 3 LFG🎉
Another really dope thing they did was include all wcw wrestler taunts & move sets so if you created them you would be all set to go. I use to love running in this game at your opponent & swinging a chair that would result in blood occasionally lol this game was so good. The alternate ring attires were really cool too.

I made a point to use the No Mercy soundtrack for this video to give it that special feel, absolutely.
Watching this in my late 30s and you completely nailed it. The game was amazing, but it was the time that surrounded it we all miss... I know I do for sure. Damn near brought to tears with this video.
Javon is a legend for creating Chyna Nued 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭☠☠☠☠💀💀💀💀
Hahahahaa
Ain’t nothing like that Nintendo 64 , shit was amazing lol😂 No Mercy , Wrestlemania 2000, NWo Revenge & WCW world Tour . I played them all
Some of the best ever.
YAYYY! There is never to much no mercy content out there 😂
Hahahahha
Totally forgot about the wiping glitch until you brought it up. This 100% happened to me as a kid. Such a bummer!!
Bummer indeed, man.
I hope you can finally do the rest of the Smackdown Vs RAW series this year
I wouldn't count on all of them, that'd be 5 episodes on one series of games.
My grandfather took my to my first wrestling event which just so happened to be No Mercy ‘99. One of my most fondest memories.
Dude that’s an AMAZING story. Sorry you went through that, but what a silver lining.
@@616Entertainment thank you man. It was rough but the fact I still have it and it still works holds a special place with me.
Man this and WM 2000 Royal Rumble on 40 with me and my friends are some of the best times of my life.
Absolutely, dude.
It's amazing that the story mode from this game hasn't been duplicated in years since. This game is still tops for that reason alone.
I wouldn't say the story is the high point, but I appreciate your love for it, hahaha
Absolutely, dude. I hear you.
I never played this game as a kid if i did I don’t remember it but bring back so many memories of that time period
Absolutely!
Hahahaha, fantastic.
Wow. That ending was beautiful. Chef's kiss.
Thanks man. It can be difficult to put those times into words, I'm glad these landed.
I remember coming back to this game a few years ago thinking kurt wasnt bald back then then I realized I did that when it happened lmao
Hahahaha
One of my all time favorites! Right up there with Goldeneye for me and my friends. Good times! I really miss those days. You did a fantastic job capturing all that in this video. Well done!
Thanks man, glad I could do it justice.
Gives and takes on both of them, no doubt. Both are great.
One of the best wrestling games that I've ever played, I remember playing this nonstop with my cousins
It can be emulated at 4K 60 on Xbox Series X/S i have gameplay on my channel like and subscribe
Hell yea!
I was blessed enough to have both as a kid. There was never a shortage of great games to play back then
One of my earliest memories ever was Xmas 2000 when my older brother got the game. He loved being Perry Saturn in the wwf title mode as his sweep kick eliminates other wresters easily in Royal Rumble mode.
Dude that kick was unreal.
Hey sir, it is 2023 and a couple of days ago i've bought myself a nintendo 64 on ebay. It will be my first N64 ever. I bought also WCW World Tour and WCW Revenge. No Mercy will be the next game i will order :). I have always been a Playstation guy just like you and i have enjoyed pretty much all the wrestling game there are..Warzone, Attitude, WCW NWO Thunder, Mayham, WCW vs the world, Smackdown 1 & 2 etc.
I am happy looking forward playing all the Wrestling games on the N64. greetings from Germany
Legendary. Got so many hours on the 64. Loved the branching story mode too.
Absolutely.
I had a first off the line copy that suffered the save wipe. It didn’t just wipe though, it totally corrupted. It replaced most character pictures with Andre the Giant, none of your story’s were playable, and all your CAWs were gone.
Man, outta control.
I don't have too many good memories with my brothers(not any of our faults), but the 3 of us playing this game together will always be a fond memory
I actually received my cart of No Mercy yesterday, and going from a phone to a controller really hits differently
Excellent upgrade!
WWF No Mercy is so fun to pick up and play all these years later!
The only game to dethrone Goldeneye as my fav game growing up
High honor!
Was late to the N64 games but had friend who had them and loved them, miss those days so much 😢
Look forward to season 3!
Many more to come!
Really enjoyed this video and your lineup for the next episode as well. Can definitely see you’re coming in hot this season.
Big time, trying to do some of the most requested games this season. I put TXSO on the shelf for 2 years, I guess I better bring the big guns, lol
What made No Mercy so timeless was that it came out when WWE had imo their greatest roster of all time from top to bottom.
You could grab weapons from the side of the stages and specifically behind the sandbags at Armageddon. You could pull weapons from the lockers/cubbies as well.
I know! I covered that in the other AKI games, didn't want to repeat myself.
@@616Entertainment Of course! Shared this vid in a couple discords. People recognized the 616 brand and responded positively.
My mom had the n64 so I would play this all day after school then play the smack down series on the weekends at my dads lol good times
I'm so happy that Javon made it in the video.
Dude I couldn't NOT write about this game and not include Javon!
The point at the end is beautiful. The 64 sleepovers were priceless, Smashbros, Mario Kart, maybe some goldeneye or mario party, but definitely No Mercy.
No doubt about it.
So glad this series is back!
This was my favorite game growing up!!!!! The hours spent doing the battle royal to unlock all the hidden characters. God that was so much fun!
Omg! I didn’t even know you could get it on your phone! Love this game!
Yea, it's some Android stuff, I don't get it. But I hear it's possible.
Nostalgia is a major factor but I also have a lot more fun with the gameplay of the older games because they actually work as intended. These 2k games have incredible presentation but are full of bugs. These videos are dope
I've waited 5years for your review of this game. So glad that you mentioned the weight recognition thing. It always stuck with me
Cheers
5 years is a long time to wait, I hope it lived up!
This video made me feel better about my negative outlook on life as a 33yo and feeling blah. thank you for your videos
You need to search for this Javon guy and interview him lol.
The game itself already has a ton of replayability, but with the insane number and quality of mods out there have just kept this game going, and going, and going... and going
Countless hours played on this game also, I hope Javon sees this video.
Shout out to the legend.
I adored this game! Incredible fun on this back in the day 🏆
Missed the wrestling game retrospectives. The only gaming channel I watch!
Plenty more to come, my dude.
Duuuuuude what a bummer. =/
(RIP)
It's so amazing how they used to go the extra mile back then. I imagine AKI surprised THQ with this. Or THQ would tell Yuke's to do some backstages and they'd check the current build it's like 34th Street, Penn Station and the MSG rotunda lmao.
I just want connected backstages and interactive moves back please 2K/Visual Concepts and THQ Nordic/Yuke's (AEW Fight Forever)
Also I believe Deadlock were selling those AKI neon signs for a bit. I bought the pin because they were sold out but it got lost in the mail. :(
You could pull the weapons from the bar and place them on the pool table as well.
I was today years old when I learned that awesome tidbit.
Tim White's bar? That's awesome!
@@616Entertainment Yessir!
Holy crap! I had the No Mercy wipe happen to me! My parents didn't understand or believe me, and had no idea I could have returned it!
Finally the best wrestling retrospective series has come back to UA-cam.
So many good memories with this classic.
I got my cib version sitting next to my cib RE2 and they're sitting next to my cib N64!
Much love from Canada!
#respect.
Two great games!
Still the best gameplay of any wrestling game ever made! Simple yet scientific controls made for some truly epic matches. I’d love for someone to bring that back!
Several are trying to. We'll see!
Thank you for not only making this awesome Video over one of the best Wrestling Games ever, specially for being such an great Guy! Keep up the great Work my Friend 🙌🏼
The triumphant return of Triangle X Squared O 🎉 So glad to have this one back 🥳
Like yourself, I didn’t grow up with a Nintendo 64, so any games exclusive to that console were experienced at the homes of friends and neighbors.
I love emulating these old WWF games on PC. They look so good.
Absolutely.
I was around 4 months old when this game came out, but even though I couldn't have played it when it first came out, I completely agree that No Mercy is one of the greatest wrestling games (and one of the greatest N64 games) of all time
It's top tier, for sure.
Dude, memories for days, right?
I was in my early 20s when this game dropped. Being out on my own for the first time...havin the buds over on a weekend night...and stayin up to the wee AM hours slamming each other around the ring 😅❤
The best thing about No Mercy was how accurately me and my friends were able to create virtual representations of ourselves 😁
Hell yea. Great times.
Fighting in the back of a parking lot has been my favorite part of No Mercy, it never happens in real life but in a video game it does. 😍
It was actually just recreated on AEW the other night! Hahahaha
That and I can't believe that I forgot about the Cena vs Eddie match on SmackDown a long time ago, Jarrett vs Angle, and Shamrock vs Blackman. Well, I was thinking about it in 2000 eyes than 2023 eyes if that makes sense.
The fact that it's still being modded and updated, someone even using the assets to make an aew variant says a lot about how good the bones of the game are
Absolutely.
Sir you just gave me ptsd, in my life I owned 6 different copies of no mercy and ALL 6 had the save wipe bug. Great video as always Ian and what a way to kick off season 3 LFG🎉
Oh noooooo
Man the nostalgia... you took me back to my childhood good times
That's the idea! Plenty more to come and plenty more already on the channel. Stick around!
So glad your making these reviews I've missed them massively great memories great times wrestling at its absolute peak take me back
Plenty more to come, Jamie. Thanks!
Another really dope thing they did was include all wcw wrestler taunts & move sets so if you created them you would be all set to go. I use to love running in this game at your opponent & swinging a chair that would result in blood occasionally lol this game was so good. The alternate ring attires were really cool too.
Man,
Between the hype of Season 3 Finally arriving, the fact that You're reviewing arguably the most anticipated Game for this series since the end of Season 2, the fact that the Retrospective itself was AWESOME, with laughs and overall entertainment value aplenty..AND The hype I got seeing that you're gonna be covering SVR 07', which is a retrospective I've personally been patiently waiting for, for years now....
Oh my GOD, This may just be my favorite UA-cam Video all year! Definitely my favorite of March for sure, that much I know for certain!
Thank You so much for brightening up my day, man. I seriously appreciate it and everything you do for Us.
2023 across the board is going to be huge for the channel, I assure you. Thanks for being here.
