The Chipettes - Diamond Dolls (real voices) - Chipmunk Adventure 1987

- I saw "real voices" videos for some other songs from the movie and, in my opinion, this song was the best one. So I changed the pitch to sound like real voices without hurting the quality too much. If you never saw the Chipmunk movie in the 80s when you were a kid, I'm very sorry because that movie was awesome. This song is from the animated film, The Chipmunk Adventure, released in 1987.
Lyrics:
We don't have to do what you tell us to do no more
You get what you need and you don't want it anymore
We don't cry now, we don't know how
We heard what you said and we don't believe a word you say
The hill is a high one but we'll climb it anyway
There's no doubt, you'll find out
We're the ones on the run, we're the girls, we're the diamond dolls
It's a ravenous world and the ceiling is very tall
There's a weight and a climb and a ladder and many fall
But the cream of crop never stops, we're the diamond dolls
A girl shouldn't sit in the corner and wait for life
Some girls like to go out looking for paradise
You'll find out, you had it anyway
Don't look down, no matter what they say
You do what you do and you try not to break the law
A girl hits her mark when she don't look ahead too far
There's no doubt, you're gonna get it all
You'll find out, everything you want
Give a hand to the girls who go after the diamond dolls
It's a ravenous world and the ceiling is very tall
There's a river that curls to the sea and it's very long
But the cream of the crop never stop, not the diamond dolls
Silver, platinum, I pass on them
You can have them, I know what I want
We're the ones on the run, we're the girls, we're the diamond dolls
It's a ravenous world and the ceiling is very tall
There's a weight and a climb and a ladder and many fall
But the cream of crop never stops, we're the diamond dolls
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, WHY HASN'T ANYONE COVERED THIS ALREADY!!! C'MON NOW!!!
RIGHT
Back in about 2001 a band I was in did a punk rock cover of this 😹😖 wish there was video!
@@LamentButterfly omg that's so cool
Okay okay okaaaaay I’ll do it. Gimme a month
I find it bizarre that there are so many random covers of everything on YT but few to no covers of TCA songs. Stuff like this, Girls of Rock and Roll and Get Lucky are legit banger songs, nostalgia aside. And yeah, Diamond Dolls was my favourite too.
I feel a little bit crazy saying this, but...I think these are actually pretty great lyrics. I think this is the rare "cartoon" song that's good enough to be a "real" pop song. I mean, Cyndi Lauper could have sung this. Or Belinda Carlisle, or somebody like that.
Oh yes, Belinda, one of the few "pop" acts I wouldn't mind hearing on the radio.
I heard this on a radio
you are SO very right on re Belinda Carlisle doing this...the GoGos would've had a hit with it. Lauper would've been great on this to ala Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
This song is an anthem for every little girl. Tomorrow is HER world.
Carlisle did record a song by the same writer Donna weis who wrote Diamond Dolls titled "The Air You Breathe" back in the 90's. It's on her greatest hits cd
I wanted to do this song with my band but we're guys so some of the lyrics might be a little out of place. I dont want to alter it much but I dont want it to come across as unfitting either.
You ain't wrong
At 44, I vividly remember when Chipmunk Adventure came out in theatres… I remember they were selling the plush toys at Burger King or Carl’s Jr… THIS song lives rent free for decades past and decades to come
Where does time go? I remember the excitement of renting this tape for the first time in 1989 and having a blast.
That synth is just amazing. I wish someone would do a proper cover someday. So many 80's/synthwave/pop cover artists out there and nobody has done this?!
So what you’re saying is that I need to start creating my own cover of this 😆
@@korodyj I would love to hear it!
@@korodyj Do it...Do--Do it.
There's a ladder...climb it. I got yer back.
Been a year, where is it!? lol@@korodyj
Well, the son of the creator of the Chipmunks and his wife funded the film basically by themselves. Ross Bagdasarian Sr was the creator of the Chipmunks but sadly passed away in 1972. His son, Ross Bagdasarian Jr, took over in 1979, 7 years later with with wife, Janice Karman and has done so ever since.
I wasn't around in the 80s. I first saw it in the 2010s. That said, it would be awesome to experience it in a movie theater (home theater setups don't count).
Me too 😭
Janace Karmen is a GREAT singer! so nice to hearing her real voice!
Are you sure it was her singing? Because I can't find who sang anywhere, it only says who voiced the dialogues.
Janice and Ross have always sang the chipmunks and chipettes songs for movies, tv, etc. And Janice voices all the chippettes so its def. her.@@krystianrysak3549
this sounds SO GOOD. like, i would play this on a retro night at a club and it would work. well done. well freakin' done.
They sound just as good unchipmunked.
Love how a song this catchy in a kids movie at the same time discuses concepts like the glass ceiling
It legit sounds like a Bananarama song! So good!
Better than many pop songs of today👌👌
That’s because they were singing any original format of rock ‘n roll in the 1950s and 60s like a Little Richard Chuck Berry and the Supremes the singers were students of this type of music
Certified fucking banger, i need a good cover asap
Wow i agree if you missed out on the chipmunk adventure growing up, you missed it - all feel good memories! This was my favourite songs - these are very well penned songs for a cartoon movie!
I’m 36, and telling a coworker about this movie who is my age felt like a fever dream. When you break down the premise, it sounds like a crazy movie! Smuggling, adventure, bad cops, sacrifices, a harem, a very seductive sounding song with snakes, and Miss Miller. Can’t beat it! If this was made now in 2024, this song would slap so much!
Did anyone else notice that the chorus makes reference to the glass ceiling or is it just me
It could just mean the ceiling, as in the maximum of their potential to achieve what they want, is high. In other words, the possibilities are sky high for them.
That's more fitting lol thanks
It's pretty obviously the glass ceiling.
@@stroudkitten not really. That's why they say it's "very tall" they also mention how a girl shouldn't "sit in the corner and wait for life" imo this is saying that they "know what they want" and can achieve it. And they know they can achieve it because even "the cream of the crop [will] never stop the Diamond Dolls"
The ceiling is also very high....because they’re chipmunks!
underatted movie.
i have the vhs tape still and all i got to say is that it is a very well loved movie in my house.
Well done. This is my favorite song from the movie and you made it sound great.
For everyone asking for a cover of this song Sludgefest did a crazy weird "cover" of this song and it sounds amazing surprisingly. Just look up Sludgefest Diamond Dolls also known as "Chipmunks On 16 Speed"
This is the one song on the soundtrack that’s not about the movie.... if you read between the lines in the lyrics... this is a female empowerment song. The women ARE the diamond dolls!
I can't get over this song! I've never listened to it before tonight, but now that I've started listening to it, I can't stop. I think it's become my new personal anthem; I love it so much.
This song deserves a proper cover
If only it was a LITTLE bit faster. So much nostalgia.
This is one of my favorite song in the movie and how funny (because of FNAF of course) this is out since 1987
yeah true
So you digitally 'devolved' this? This isn't the original recording? I'm very impressed with the quality! And yes, if you missed the movie, you missed out!
I don't know what that means. I just changed the pitched in Cool Edit Pro. It can change the pitch but keep the speed the same.
Cool
The “Chippified” recording is in the key of Emajor....the original recording here is in Bflat major
ser21842
it's called lowering pitch.
that's a nice vocal. It brings me back to old days
I grew up watching this movie every day. this version is so much better than the original!
Imagine if NIN did a cover of this
🖤
damn, brings back old times
That’s because they where singing in the Original rock ‘n’ roll format reminiscent of Little Richard Chuck Berry and The Supremes

Wow! Truly remarkable when you hear someone singing your song.
I loved this movie so much !!!!
Inspector Jamak! Let's go!!!
I love this song but I have never seen the movie
If The Beach Boys had made it into the 80s, their stuff would have sounded like this.
Very well done, the memories are real! haha
Oh wow this is awesome. :)
Such a fucking good song.
My favorite song
Inspector Jerome ! Let’s Go!
@PamelaJoParrish The creator of the chipmunks also did all of their voices and Dave's
Who are the real singers for this song? I remember it was a group.
Janice karman maked the voice of all chipettes
The Diamond Dolls where a group of strippers in the 80s and they also sang the song for the chipmunk Adventure Movie but because it was strippers singing the song someone did a cover up saying it wasn't them.
@@DjMasterMatrix ah, i dont know about that.
very awesome
I need the instrumental to this so i can cover. I can do all the vocals
XD this just old as I'am.
All of their voices is by Janice karman❤
cooool guys
