I'm a simple guy, I see someone review first law, I sub. I only read the first trilogy but man did I love it.
Agree with you on The Blade Itself, but I just finished Before They Are Hanged and can’t wait to continue the series! This has been a blast so far!
That’s awesome! I swear, Abercrombie reinvigorated my love for reading, when I thought nothing would strike me as truly profound ever again.
Just found your channel, and I absolutely agree with how you feel about these books. Looking forward to your other videos.
Thank you for making these.
Thank you! I'm so glad this was helpful. I filmed it kind of on a whim and haven't done anything similar since. Maybe I should...
I really love when a writer can do that. In the Cadfael Chronicles sometimes barely anything happens, but you end up feeling like you just spent a few days or a week in 12th century England.
Oooo I love The Count of Monte Cristo...
Episodic 😊 Dave
Yes exactly - completely transportive! Especially with the audio version in this case.
Thank you for this Niki! I have only read the first trilogy, and this makes me really excited to continue.
Oh good! You have my favorites still to go! :D
Definitely read them in order. I’m up to the final trilogy (still need to read sharp ends) but there’s so much you would miss by skipping books
I agree - I couldn’t imagine leaving any one of them out.
I just rearranged some of my reading schedule based on your video! I had A Little Hatred on hold to listen to but I cancelled it and put The Blade Itself on hold instead...starting from the beginning!
Definitely start from the beginning.
Oh good! I’m glad to have had some positive influence. I hope you end up liking it as much as I did. :D
Subbed just cos of this review. I just finished The First Law trilogy and absolutely loved em, I'm now tempted to get the next 3 after I'm done with Klara and the Sun, followed by Shogun
Thank you! Oh nice, you still have my favorites of the series to go! I need to get back to Shogun. I picked it up on a whim when a 1000 page book wasn’t practical at the time.
@@TheObsessiveBookseller it is rather thick, I am about 1/3 of the way through Klara & the sun and missing my Joe Ab. fix, so I think Shogun might just have to wait
I was wondering were to start - even though book 1 is always the right choice - so this was helpfull.
I’m glad it helped! I know a lot of people say to just dive into the middle books, so this one is a bit trickier than many series.
It's been years now since I read the first six books, which I believe were the only ones that had been published at the point that I got to Red Country. I need to make some time soon to get back to finishing the rest. I was completely on board even with The Blade Itself, but my favorites from the first six books were Best Served Cold and Red Country.
Interesting that you liked both that tend to split peoples opinions. I think I like Red Country more now in retrospect then I did while reading it. I think you’ll eat up the final three when you get to them. :)
I'm just starting my 1st law journey..i have all the audiobooks and physical books to follow along
Oh nice!! I’m so excited - I hope you love it! :D
I own the entire collection except the last book and I still only read the first 3. Initially I did not care much for it when I tried the first book but when I switched to audiobook I loved it. I think I already mentioned it but Pacey brings Glokta to life.
Yes I agree, that slight lisp adds everything. I can’t imagine experiencing the series without the audio. I’m excited for you to get to the “episodes” at some point.
Thanks a million, Niki 🌻 That's really helpful. I guess I will pick up the first trilogy and give it a shot and I will see whether I would like to move on from there ^^ In german they published both the trilogies as one series and the episodical ones separately. So I will be careful with the reading order, comparing the titles with the original ones as you showed them here. Thanks again! =)
You’re welcome! Thank you for the idea. :) I like your plan with how to tackle them.
@@TheObsessiveBookseller I put them to my Goodreads wishlist, but I will still respect my 3:1 mini challenge ^^ and I let myself choose freely when I fulfilled the three ^^
I think Abercrombie can surpass Sanderson simply on the fact that Sanderson is Mormon and will never go into sex scenes and won't curse. Abercrombie (like GRRM), isn't afraid to do grim-dark realistically. If he gets his plots and imagination going, he can surpass Sanderson. Not knocking Sanderson necessarily. He's entitled to his beliefs. But I think he tries to make up for his shortcomings by making his books long. Kinda like "small guys" with big trucks. Just my two-cents.
There’s definitely a next-level in Abercrombie’s books because he isn’t afraid to “go there.” Although the world building in Stormlight was so expansive that it struck me as profound for very different reasons. They’re so far apart in almost every aspect that it’s hard for me to compare.
Man I really wish I had those book editions. I got the anniversary editions instead and they are horrifically bad. They don't have a TOC. They all look slightly different and on different paper. They use apostrophe's instead of quotation marks for dialogue (british version, I hate that). Their cover fades and damages with the lightest touch. Even if you baby them they age 20 years in a single reading. And they cost 20/15 euro each. Really regret not getting the regular edition instead.
P.s. I remember reading the blade itself on my ereader. And it was I believe the second chapter (survivors), the ending made me burst out laughing and I immediately ordered all three books so I could read a physical copy instead. Man .. still pissed I didn't get the other version
I’m with you on that - it bothers me not having good editions for my favorite books. These were purchased within the last year though so they may still be available. I love those moments where you just know an author is going to be a winner for you!
