I still have my old school photos from Seedley County Primary and Junior Mixed in the 50s and 60s. Even have one of my dad's from about 1930. Lovely school.
Just because Salford was a city and borough in its own right doesn't mean it wasn't in Lancashire. Salford was very much in the county of Lancashire, as was Manchester, until Greater Manchester became a metropolitan and ceremonial county in 1974. Born and bred in Salford I'm a Lancashire lass.
You have answered your own question. Salford is a city and was a Borough before the administrative amalgamation in 1974. Salford ,like Manchester has never been in Lancashire. The Salford/Lancashire border used to be about where Ladywell Island is now and Lancashire was North of this following the A57...M6...A6 corridor.

Salford and Manchester were geographically in Lancashire, pre 1974. And although where I now live officially comes under Greater Manchester, I always give Lancashire as my address.

Salford has never been in Lancashire. It was a 'Borough ' which is basically a county by another name.
