I hope Those SPO’s know what they’re getting into.

I visited DC for quite some time and gotta say it is such a strange and weird place.
They call their special police, who are sworn law enforcement officers, security guards.
They make them wear a high visibility security vest, giving the false impression that they don't have police powers.
Because of this, the public disrespects the crap out of special police officers under the pretense that they have no authority and they are just security.
This neither helps public perception, dissuade crime nor places SPOs in a good light.
The bad part is that they carry guns. People do not respect security officers enough for you to allow SPOs to carry guns then call them security. That increases the chances of an incident occurring. Criminals are less likely to commit crimes when there is a law enforcement presence. However, criminals don't see SPOs as police because everyone keeps calling them security.
Metro transportation doesn't know what they want. I guess as long as these men and women are risking their lives for $45k a year that's all that matters... Smh

Whenever I see special police on the metro they are always either on their phones or in groups having a jolly old time. For this to work, they need to stay alert and do their jobs.

What's wrong with them being on the phone? If a criminal comes, the SPO would have learned a valuable lesson about situational awareness.
