  • Our urban exploration of an overgrown and remarkably well preserved granite quarry in the White mountains of New Hampshire, with a full history and closed captioning. This one of a kind frozen in time industrial site has everything left behind, and is filled with abandoned equipment and buildings since falling from use some 70 years ago. We explore its history and how the unique stone of the mountain has helped build many of the greatest historic monuments of America today.

In the Netherlands, you have to clean up your mess before you leave or sell it. In America you can just leave everything behind and you call it... Move on.... So you have to take AT literally. Who pays for the clean-up costs?

What a great exploration & interesting history behind it! The toilets in the bathhouse were made by Joseph A. Vogel Company of Wilmington, Delaware during the early 1900s, and were designed to be used in unheated or heated areas due to the drain trap being below the frost line to prevent freezing. There were cylindrical tanks attached to each toilet. The toilets were flushed by raising the seats after use, which opened the valves to let water into the bowls. They were mainly installed in basements, outside industrial bathrooms, industrial buildings, park bathrooms, & some school houses. Very few of these toilets are in operation and use today.

@@DesertifyUrbex You’re welcome. There is a video of one of these Vogel toilets in operation on John Toilet’s UA-cam channel. It’s pretty cool the way these work. I install, replace, & repair toilets for a living and have UA-cam channel devoted to this. For a while locals were stealing metal out of there and selling it to the junkyards. After that they got a lot stricter about watching the area. The meter box is probably cameras. There are/were signs around the area saying no trespassing, though officials told me that it's fine to explore the area, the signs were to aid in prosecuting thieves and vandals. There is a lot out there, this video missed a lot, yet also showed me things I hadn't found. I was raised in Conway. Spent most of my life there. I stumbled upon Redstone quarry about 10 years ago while mountains biking.

Those weren't mine carts, those weren't wheels, those were belt pullys for a line shaft system, and rest of that looked to be a steam engine, that was a stationary steam engine that only drove belts that would power machinery, metal working, wood working, or stone working. The belts turned a steel shaft, that shaft had a pulley anywhere there was a large machine needing power, the shaft spun continuously and you had to tension the belt to your machine to turn it on,one steam engine could power 20 different machines at same time this way.
I worked at a railroad roundhouses museum and our steam engine powered the blacksmith shop, and carpentry shop. One steel driveshaft ran through 4 buildings in a row.

It is amazing how long older craftsmanship can last. Many mansions we explore have these beams even after 50 years, compared to a modem wooden house than can collapse in just 30. I often wonder how long our architectural legacy will outlast man. My guess is not much of anything modern will remain for others to find.

Great place , so much to see although scattered around. In Cornwall UK where I live we have old Cornish tin mines, one of which is still working, also we have a lot of old quarries for the Cornish granite . We also have a place St Austell there you can see places processing China Clay. I recently sold my property and lost 80k because of a mining feature under my conservatory. Those compressors at 35:00 minutes are fascinating. The presence of the 2 boilers would indicate that they are steam powered. However, I googled the name on the side of the casing "Chicago Pneumatic" and found several similar images that said they were diesel. I would think there would be a large engine that would have driven the lathes and machining equipment. Most of those machines appeared to have drive pulleys that would have large belt going to a line shift being driven by a steam or oil powered engine. Awesome video!!

Hi, so on camera one, the audio is clearer and you hear more and the picture is sharper with the colours nice and vivid and it is good in low light. Camera two which I think is your normal camera the audio isn't as good it seems a bit muffled and there is a static noise you can hear and you can also hear when the camera settings are being clicked every time too. The piece with the large Flat Rollers where the Mine Carts were was probably the Draw Works that operated the Mine Carts. The Flat Rollers were where the Draw Works was powered with wide Leather Belts being turned by large Stationary Steam Engines. @tjburr1968 monson Massachuttes. There were 2 quarries. One was Flynt quarry. And the other was what is now a button museum called "Keep homestead". That query was small and was used for the house and a couple of other buildings. But the owner / father of the property were going to springfield ma for church (it was a day affair back then, travel alone was hours and hours) and 2 of his daughters stayed home when he took his wife and their sister to church. They were attacked by the natives and didn't make it leaving the 2 girls alone with the inherentance. Eventually, the family was down to 1 remaining member, and they left the property to the town as long as they kept up the house and turned it into a museum open to the public, and it has hiking trails to their quarry. Flint quarry was giant for the time. The town was part of brimfield until it was incorporated into its own one year before this great nation, 1775. Most houses in downtown are over 200 some 300 years old. Emily Dickenson also lived here.

So, you find a digital power meter running at the site entrance...slow draw running speed...now, you need to look for the source it's powering and I'm guessing a solar battery box which feeds wireless cameras. Why there though? Also could be feeding a cell phone tower. Either way, it's maintained, had the security band still attached with one huge OPSEC failure...you noticed it, and filmed it. Go back, it'll probably be relocated or camouflaged.

The more I think on this, the odder it is. I had also noticed an out of place, somewhat newer handmade wooden platform. Perhaps 10x10 in size. It was raised and flat on the ground and painted green. At the time I thought maybe it had been tossed to rot, but now I'm not so sure. It was not more than 50-100 feet from the meter, and I never checked to see if it was attached to anything or simply laying on the forest floor.

I wrote on that pillow back when I was like 16, also wrote 10 blunts on the wall. Good times. Still go there often (I don’t spray paint anymore)
