Mahalo "Crash Course Josh" for the P2P. Much appreciation and credit to you for creating content that assisted me in becoming a ham. 73 with Alhoa. WH6HI
Aluminum F150 here too. Made a plate that attaches to the trailer hitch the same size as the mag mount. Trailer hitch is part of the frame, huge ground plane that way.
Yooo. You picked up Duane (WH6HI). Great guy. Part of the club. BIARC. Big Island amateur radio club. Thanks for showcasing that awesome awesome guy. I need to check on his CW progress. Thanks, Josh. I bet that made his day. 🤙🏾
Gotta love pileups. Sometimes you just gotta be patient. They may have heard you as well as everyone else shouting at the same time. I’ve learned this real quick as a hunter. Nice little Radioddity you have there! Hope your New Year’s was a pleasant one. ❤ Cheers and 73 - KF0QNM
The Icon kit is killer! It can be a killer deal also if you get it with the 30% off Harbor Freight coupon. Antenna is interesting as well. Thanks for the video! 73
No punt intended, but I'll stick with a Wilson 1000 or my must trusted K40- K10 , I do have a Comet 10 meter but the K-40 out preforms it. Nice video Josh.
You satisfied a curiosity I've had for a while, about a mobile antenna working like that on Faraday cloth. How many watts was the Radioddity radio putting out. You got some impressive contacts... Hawaii ?!!!.
The CHA SS17 is the same price and I have a hunch it would work much better using a pair of elevated radials, but hey - with antennas, everything affects everything so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe do a video with a side-by-side test someday. The Faraday cloth is an interesting idea versus the time required to lay out 64 ground radials.
Lol that so looks like a lot of the " High Power 11m Antennas" out there. I actually have a so-239 hook up in the middle of my Dodge maybe I'll get one of these. :-}
For the purposes of testing SWR on a vehicle you could lay that mag mount on the roof of your aluminum truck. Mag mounts use capacitive coupling to the ground plane. It wouldn’t stay on magnetically but it should give you the same type of reading that it would on a steel roof truck.
Why would you want to use a mobile antenna on the ground on a small piece of Faraday cloth instead of using that big old truck of yours as the counterpoise? Put a mount just inside the top of the fender just forward of the tailgate with a direct bond of the feedline shield to the frame of the truck directly below the antenna and be done with it. Best mobile antenna performance is with the antenna feed point as high and in the clear as possible. Having the antenna mounted on a truck trailer hitch with a several feet of the lowest part of the antenna only inches away from the tailgate is a one of the worst places to mount a mobile antenna. Likewise on the fender top just inches away from the truck cab. And if you want a stable and effective mobile antenna and must use a mag mount, be sure to bond the mag mount base directly to the vehicle body with as short a jumper wire or braid strap as possible, especially for operation on lower frequency bands. The capacity coupling of a mag mount base inserts a very lossy capacitive reactance element into the antenna circuit. You might get away with it at 10 meters and VHF but effective mobile antenna installations at lower frequencies require solid grounding connections to the vehicle body and usually scraping paint to get there. Lol, it sounded pretty good to me in person versus my UA-cam audio. I have another video coming up I recorded in the same place with a much loved radio, keep that in mind when I drop that one.
This may be a stupid comment. If all you do is say a lot of people you don't know anywhere else in the world and see how far your transmitting what fun is in that?
Just beacuse your truck is aluminum only means you can not drive around with it the truck,. Remember most antenna radials are made out of aluminum. Cute sneakers Mommy bought you for Christrmas?

That’s awesome! Glad we made a contact!

Josh how are you doing out there with the fires?

Oh yeah. I’m gonna buy a bunch for giveaways.
Those Oakleys scream "Child of the 80s" and I LOVE IT.
As I have recently found out the faraday cloth is a game changer for all kinds of portable use. 73 M7BLC

Could you have just attached radials to the bolts going through the magnets and spread them out on the ground?
cordiales saludos 73, desde colombia HJ2GPM. Muchas gracias por incluir la traducción al español
Would it be a good idea to just glue the rubber booties onto the magnets, they fit very loose?
You satisfied a curiosity I've had for a while, about a mobile antenna working like that on Faraday cloth. How many watts was the Radioddity radio putting out. You got some impressive contacts... Hawaii ?!!!.
Should be about 80 watts.
Well done, Josh!!

Thanks Josh and, I hope you’re nowhere near the fires!!
I am well away.
Yeah, the aluminum was my biggest gripe when I just got my new 2024 f-150...

What is Q?
Did the cloth make a big difference?
Big.
Quiet about the Icon mini ratchet set. I only have 3 and want all the rest. 😊
Lmao, me too!
Your saying that the cab roof is aluminum..?
Everything is.
Hey Josh, I found that out when I rented an F-150 and tried to stick a mag mount on it@HamRadioCrashCourse. 😂

Nice, I have to check that out. 28.055 is perfect for what I do :)
Gotta love that qt80
Are you and the family safe!?
Very much so. Thanks for asking. All safe here.
Like the magic carpet 👍
I recognize that beach, Bolsa Chica
Nice "on the road" video - - Interesting antenna (Truckers antenna?) it looks familiar. - Cheers! VE3GHP

I wanted to test the other ways of doing it. 🤷🏼♀️

28.4 is the middle of the novice/tech phone subband.
Yes. Where the most SSB contacts come from.
Dude, I like your content, but could you not have found a slightly better place than a parking lot next to a highway?
Are you serious?

Why? Why even be involved in ham radio if you don't experiment?
Silicone the rubber feet or you will curse at it every time you move it
Wow that radio audio is pretty awful on video

Quelle horreur la traduction simultanée en français..... c'est à chier. Mais heureusement le test lui est très sympa. Merci 73 QRO

It does seem like a stupid comment. Re-read it. You might have used the wrong words. 🤷🏼♀️
8:47 - a girl?? Yeah, right - like her husband isn't operating that station...
I think it’s a young lady.
Be better. Don't show your ass.

@@HamRadioCrashCourse she seems wonderful... and in my state, hmm

Are you a real person? You make fun of other dudes shoes online. 🤣
