  • The Clam drill plate ice auger conversion kit is a great way to convert your hand crank ice auger to a power auger. Most people have a power drill at home, why not also have it double as your powered ice auger?

    My Clam Plate came with the Power Drive, use my 8 inch Strike Master auger along with the 18v Milwaukee Hammer Drill, ripped through 36 inches of ice last year like nothing! Just bought the new 8 inch Lite Flite from Strike Master can't wait to try it out.

    *Great auger! **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s blades came very sharp and when attached to the drill adapter, this auger chews through 18" of ice like butter!*

    Hey there I have been using a strike master 8 inch hand auger I picked up cheap and switched from a more basic drill to flight adapter to the clam plate and love it. I heard you say your drill must be brushless, I'd like to know the reason behind this if you don't mind. I drill mine with an older bosch brushes 18v drill with 750 in lbs and does it flawlessly with an 8 ah battery, 4ah can do it if your only drilling 18 inch or you burn through the batteries really fast. Great vid and demo also!!

    Any idea how many holes you can get on one of those batteries?

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  3 роки тому

      No idea. The most I've drilled is about 30 holes in one day, through about 15 inches of ice, and still had half a battery.

      I’m getting 40-50 holes per battery. About a foot of ice maybe a tad more

      I've got a compact 18v brushless milwaukee. Drilled maybe three dozen holes today through 18 inches of ice, still had half battery. Battery wasn't charged from the last trip when I had only Drilled 7 or so holes. I'd only get maybe 20 holes if that on my old ridgid brushed drill with the same size battery 9.0amp hr.

    Hi, is your Eskimo auger the Silvertip with curved blades or the straight blade? I have the straight blade 8 inch version and paired it with the clam plate. It does not cut well at all. It jerks a lot and keeps getting stuck. I bought new serrated blades that were made for the Eskimo power auger and will try that this winter to see how it cuts.

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  3 роки тому +1

      My auger has the straighter blades. I did put new replacement blades on my auger to make sure they were sharp. If your auger is getting stuck while trying to drill through the last inch or two of ice, that is common if you let the auger stop turning at that point.You don’t want to stop drilling and try to start again. Once you start drilling, hammer down and keep those blades turning.

      It happens throughout the whole time that I am drilling the hole. There is so much torque that I feel like I am unable to keep drilling but then it also gets stuck. Not sure how to explain it but I'll try with these new blades and see how it drills. You seem to do it with ease with your set-up and mine isn't much different except I use the DCD-999 as my drill. I'll try it with the new blades and update later this winter. Thanks for the response!

      Zexter Xiong Hmmm, hard to say what’s going on. Sorry I don’t have more answers. Mine does work with ease. Hopefully you can get your setup dialed in, good luck!

    Does your drill stop hard when you let the trigger go

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  3 роки тому +1

      Yes when I’m not actually drilling anything, it will. Which is why I try not to “dry fire” it, so to speak. There is a lot of inertia for the drill to try and stop once you get the auger spinning. This doesn’t seem to happen with ice and water though.

      I think if you get the clam gear drive it eliminates that problem. I'm gonna try it on my setup.

    Is the connection between the plate and the auger firm or does it have some play? I have the clam plate onto a Cabelas 6” auger and there is a bit of wobble. That wobble causes the wingnut to be stressed and eventually it breaks. So I am looking for a better auger with a snug connection.

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  3 роки тому +1

      I get what you mean, and I will say this, I have to make sure and tighten that wingnut after every hole I drill. This could totally be fixed with a little loctite, I just haven't gotten around to putting any on yet. When the wingnut is tight there is very little, if any, play in the connection and never a wobble when drilling.

    The set up is sweet but costs more than the huge gas or propane auger. I just bought a used propane auger for $200, I can’t even get a drill for that

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  Рік тому

      True, but if you already have a drill then maybe it makes more sense. You are right though!
