In this weeks video I show the issues on getting fullycharged on the Renault Zoe Oh yes getting the BMS update isn't as easy as it should be. Here ill explain the signs of BMS and how to get your dealer to fix it.
there have been a lot of electric station charging points, but the newest ones I can't charge, it gives me an error, what's the problem, should it be a BMs update?
Anybody know is it possible to buy a battery for Renault Zoe 2016 model instead to rent? And what is the price of the battery? And what size of battery in kwh?
Hi Nicolas,Very good video.I have just purchased a secondhand Q90 22 Kwh battery Zoe from a main dealer and having real issues with it.The symptoms of BMS needing updated are there, but also I can't rapid charge it without Charging Impossible coming up.Then it takes a few goes to re-set on a slower charger.Anyway the car is getting returned to the dealer to be checked. This was after the car was quote ''Serviced'' and this is a main dealer.I will certainly be asking questions thanks to your video.
yep the older 2014 had issues with Charging impossible due to the earthing checks i believe theirs a few updates they can apply and fix's for this shame its slipped threw the net.
The BMS update does fix the 99-100% 2hr issue, however the SOH is a different matter. The BMS update changes the calibration of the battery. The full capacity of the battery in theoretical terms is 26.xKW, the BMS reserves 22KW to be used, this makes sure that you don’t have a claim any time soon with RCI with a SOH under 75%. The BMS update is to take up to 1.5days. They can only update the BMS software when the battery is somewhat discharged for safety reasons. This means for the mechanic to check the BMS update they have to trickle charge the vehicle to a full charge to verify the new calibration (done overnight). The calibration will wipe out your driving history and you will start off without an ECO compensation if you are a conscientious driver. I am currently testing the BMS update with recordings of every charge so as to report back to Renault Engineering if the software actually does deliver. So far, there is a variance on the full mileage at 100% charge where the number of miles left to go gets lowered IF you charge the vehicle frequently with remaining charge over 66%. If you actually push the vehicle into the 20% charge for a full recharge the mileage climbs up. With a good ECO score of 90% or better you will get a 10% increase in your mileage to go at 100% charge. In summary, the algorithm of the BMS of estimated miles for a full charge needs maturing, the adjustments based on driving behaviour, temperature and charge patterns are not enough in my opinion. Good luck with your battery update... make sure they do a screen shot of the SOH since the first time they lied and told me it was at 100%... the screen shot finally showed 98% with an even battery charge distribution which is what you would want to see.
Christian Behier Lets just clear some facts please: The BMS does not release anything from the 26kw pack we have always had access to the full 26kw, this is where the buffer zone is so the pack is never fully charged or discharged. The bms can be done with 50% charge left if you like mine was. It takes 4hrs roughly sometimes quicker not 1.5 days to update. No ECO score was wiped from my bms at all. Everything was as it was when They started. My soh is still 98% even after covering 5k now and 2k over 2 days full rapid charging. The new bms is what’s in the later R240 that do not see the issues the older Zoe are seeing. Hope this clears a lot up.
+Renault Zoe & ZE Owners Club you also forgot to mention to solution number mentions the time takes from 99% to a 100% as the issue and since the update this has been resolved on my zoe for example
Renault Zoe & ZE Owners Club - I am not sure I follow the “clearing of some facts”. Mind clarifying with a sprinkle of logic and a dusting of maths on that one please? I am always up to learn more on the BMS ;) thx.
+Christian Behier I have part 2 due this Sunday if you subscribed :) and if you check out rzoc UA-cam page they also have a video going into Bms with more details than mine
My ev Renault guy said it was set at only 83percent of battery . I have gained 10 miles plus but not sure what was done , what is firm ware number . I did tell them and they had it for days so ? 43 kw Zoe aug 2014 made , registered Dec 2014
Hi Nigel I go into the firmware info more on part 2 so please subscribe for the next video, however for quick reference its "Diagnosis version 25" and software version 0854, there's more info to this worth knowing but too much to type so lookout for part 2 due to be released on "25/11/17"
It should work but I’ve not tested it personally so don’t know only ones I can tell you 100% work are the bmw i3/i8 as per the vlog, and the one posted on my about page I can post a link of it if you wanted to buy one
Expecting my Zoe from lockers Stockport also in February 18. I assume I won’t be able to know whether the BMS needs updating unless I notice the battery taking ages to fully charge, eight? And thanks for the vids 👍🏻
You can use a CANZE which I will go into on "part 2" or you can have someone else use a OBD reader on your car to check it. Are you in the RZOC club on facebook? if not join and post on there I may be able to check your car for you depending where you live.
why do some renault dealers do this? customers are smart, don't treat them as idiots and lie to them. it's the worst policy any company can do..just be honest and explain the issues... returning your car, telling you it's fixed after doing nothing is terrible. there seems to be a disconnect between the mechanics and the customer service manager....totally frustrating.
GREAT to hear, have you checked share.octopus.energy/straw-moon-586 is any cheaper on your gas and electric supply yet if you switch this Thursday we both get £50 and they also offer a deal not listed on the website which gets you 5p electric at night for charging feel free to email me via my website evnick.com if you need more information.
@@NicolasRaimo I'm getting 57 miles consistently on a full charge. This is a long way off the 130 miles. Even 100 miles would suit me great as its a city car, getting prepped for ULEZ...
Nicolas Raimo thanks for the reply. I just got a Zoe and today it was nearly fully charged and it showed the range is 53 miles. I am guessing that is not right. I do also feel like it drops very quickly. I also charged it at one point where is showed 85% when I stopped the charging and then I drove about 7 or 8 miles to get home and it showed 50% after that.
Wendy Hansen sounds like you need a Bms update try a full charge and follow my video for resetting the range if it doesn’t go above 120 miles you need Bms
Hi I just bought a used Zoe. Is there anyway to actually tell whether it has had the BMS update or not? The trip reset once charged reads 127miles (85% of capacity). It a 16 plate car. Seems to charge okay from 99 to 100%? Thanks for all you’re videos they are fantastic!
The only true way of checking is using a CanZE dongle for androids amzn.to/2EH0sfu and downloading the FREE canZE app that will 100% tell you the version number as displayed in the videos i did on this subject. You could try asking your dealer to check but not promise your get the right answer or even an answer. You could also try Renault customer service to see if they have a record of it being done under the warranty claims.
Pleasure if your up north near Manchester i could check it on my system or near Coventry i know someone there that would do the same. Please try share my youtube channel with your friends and family i'd like to break 2000 subscribers
It should not always be, nothing wrong with charging to 100, the issue is storing for long periods or keeping it at high states for long periods for example going 100 to 80 every day isn’t good however going 0 to 100 every day is fine
This isn't really an electric fault its more a software update, however unlike Tesla updates can't be sent remotely to the car and require the car to be plugged in to the dealer, the car is VERY reliable. Check out my other videos on this
Thanks, Good Advice for owners that have not had update done yet
+ron byrne thanks Ron part 2 due next week if your not already subscribe to get alerted

You'd think Renault would make updating the BMS a kind of recall

Sounds like a new charge controller PEC is needed this an older 2014? By any chance
Yes 64 plate.Looks like it's a bit broken for a car serviced 200 miles ago.

Thanks, keep up the good work! Pretty annoying that they didn't do the update. Would a 66 plate ze40 need a BMS update or is it just the older models?

hi Nicolas will a Audi A3 Q7 ev charging cable e tron electric charging cable work on a zoe 40kw
If your referring to the type2 to type2 public cable yes it will
sorry for the confusion Nicolas what i should have said was the 3 pin type 2 granny lead

Hi Nicholas, just a quick question, is the bms under 3 year warranty or a recall? Thanks, I've just subs great work, keep it up pal:)
Warranty on zoe is 4 years :) but if your leased battery you could even argue it under that
@@NicolasRaimo that's great news as mine is a 2015 and battery leased too 😊

How much does a BMS update cost? Presumably this can only be done at Renault...
Free under battery lease as you SOH be low so it’s that or new battery

@@GurnamSingh-vx6tj real world your never get 130 from zoe 90 summer is good and 65/70 winter what’s your mpkwh? Times that by 22kwh
When a battery is fully charge, approximately how many miles should it be showing? Not the better and upgraded batteries, but for the normal ones.
22kw can range depending on driving styles best I seen on mine is 97

+David Fletcher which dealer?
Nicolas Raimo Bristol Street Derby.
I'll do a CanZE before and after!
yep best to do that, part 2 explains you need to check both BMS banks 1 and 2
Nicolas Raimo will watch with interest.
Is this something Renault should be telling there Zoe owners?
It’s something they should of recalled or taken a service action on, don’t forget to subscribe!
