The zero issues were one of the first things I ever owned and read from Batman. For a 7 year old kid it was almost impossible to collect comics in order in Argentina, you just purchased wathever issue was available at the stands. That crash course on Batman history meant the world to me, like a bible. To this day, I think that four issues (shadow of the bat 0, detective 0, batman 0 and robin 0) are a great way to start reading the bat. Each has its own mini adventure with the flashbacks telling the history of the characters inserted. I was a fan of the 60s series and never heard of Bruce's training, I never knew there were three different Robins, and so on. But these comics made me a batman fan for life.

DC should simply stop needing to reset the continuity of its series and focus on stories that don't need to do it. Although I liked New52, I find that the continuous rectification of the past of its characters is a lack of respect for those who have always been there and have always read their stories.

I'm glad that around this time Barbra was a supporting character in Batman again. I have no idea why Oracle was a member of the Suicide Squad. Look I don't know who I'm making upset with this claim but Barbra being on the Suicide Squad makes no sense to me. It's one thing to have characters on different teams then where they originated from, but what grinds my gears is when DC and Marvel for some bizarre reason want to take a character away from where they originated and have that character want nothing to do with where they originated and put them in places that make no sense for them to be in.

I didn't know Zero Hour had such a reputation, all the changes in the continuity for me are just unnecessary. Great video Mr. Salazar, I'm really looking for Prodigal because I love Dick Grayson as Batman.

This is arguably where the aesthetics peaked. Notice how Dick's robin didn't look weird with Tim Drake, yet still there is a "modern touch" to the current designs? *Sigh* This is why I prefer older comics.

@@benc77 I prefer specifically when they colored the blue as bright, and the grey as really dark. Like the ras al ghul cover (where he's like a big green background thing and Batman and Robin are in the foreground). Robin vol 2 #10 is bittersweet considering the time when it came out because Dick was fun loving in his early years as Robin, but during Dicks last few years as Robin and his first several years as Nightwing Dick was a real A**Hole.

I'm not a big fan of post-Crisis comics, so when this series came out I was too biased to give it a try. Unfortuntaley, years later when I bought a bunch (before realizing there were way too many to try for more) for just 50c each it didn't improve my opinion. Some great panels, like Time Trapper's destruction. But nothing drew me in and even disrespectful to the JSA. The only issues I liked were ones you touched on, the Superman with many art styles of Batman (loved the 1939 Batman's reaction to modern music), the Golden Age Alfred (starting right off the bat with the cover) and to a degree the multiple Robins one. I also liked to a degree the Superboy issue with the pre-Crisis Superboy (young Clark Kent). the Catwoman issue would have been a winner too if they'd used that mirror panel as the cover and focused on that idea (various incarnations of her) as the theme. I mean how would the Golden Age one have reacted to her double being a hooker? Or the Earth-1 version finally learning that on Earth-Two she in a way had a daughter with Batman? So much potential.

The Zero Hour Batman stuff is easy to look over. I usually skip them if I'm reading continuity, but will go over them if I'm reading the Zero Hour story. And like most tie in gimmicks DC tried launching several titles that spun out of the event. Most were easily forgotten but there's always one title that actually turns out good. For Zero Hour that amazing title was STARMAN. I admit that I overlooked it when it was originally published. But I read the series a few years ago, and it was incredible. Probably one of the best comic series from the 90s. A few years prior DC had the Bloodlines gimmick, and the awesome series HITMAN came out of that. And I liked that book was set in the "rough" side of Gotham City. I loved his interactions with Batman. Thanks Salazar! I'm excited to get back to the regular Batman series. Prodigal is next, that was a decent storyline.

Great mini. Made me a DC fan again with the sort of story that made me a BA fan. And, no, Crisis was not about fixing continuity. That is a lie. You mean to believe that a fan letter (which had never surfaced or been credited to anyone) caused a company to risk its bottom line via a three year plan that led to an 85 to 86 maxi series? The truth is DC almost was shut down by WB in 82. WB was thinking of renting out publishing rights (not selling the company, that is likewise a myth). Marvel almost got those rights. But Kahn clearly wanted a risk to save her job and the company. Obviously, the plan was to double down on the experimental (Moore, Miller, et al) and make everything else Diet Marvel (Kents = Parkers) (Lex Luthor = Kingpin). Or in some cases, do the opposite (Aquaman's Silver Age origin had to go because it was too much like Namor's) Continuity was the tool, not necessarily the endgame in and of itself. As for Zero Hour, it follows easily. I don't know what to tell you, Salazar. Parallax aka Hal Jordan is remaking time. The one thing that makes no sense was the outcome of Batman being an urban legend. (Not to mention Green Arrow being 49 years old).

Well I found out that Superman Speeding Bullets wasn't the first time that idea was explored. The first time it was explored was in "Superman #363" from 1981. There was a back up story in that issue titled "The night life of Bruce Superman Wayne" That story had which explored what would happen if Superman had landed in Gotham.

A lot of the comics I read first (Hush, Bruce Wayne Murderer) leaned heavily on the "unknown murderer of Batman's Parents" thing, which had some positives, but I generally prefer it to be a random mugging gone wrong, no deeper meaning, as the random tragedy of it makes it a lot more powerful than a conspiracy or assassination.

Personally, I really like the retcon of the Wayne's muderer not being Joe Chill but a unknow thief since it makes Bruce decision to protect his city rather than just wanting to find his parents muderer much more complex, because, in this case, he don't see the responsible for his parents death as one specific individual but part of a larger problem, the criminal underworld, which pushes him into wanting to be a vigilante, not to just find the guy who ruined his childhood but to fight against any type of criminal like him.

Precisely because Batman getting the murder of his parents but afterwards still deciding to stay Batman shows that it stopped to be about just the murder of his parents its about prevent any form of Crime that could lead to such outcomes and highlights that Batman is ultimately a agent of Justice and not of Vengeance.
Something Joe Chills original story actually highlighted perfectly in its ending were Batman after in a fit of rage revealing his identity of Bruce Wayne to Joe still decides to let him life because he is about morals and killing him would make him as bad as Joe. Meanwhile does Batman's identity stay a secret because the other nameless criminals Joe ask for help let there rage takeover and kill Joe before he could reveal Batman's identity.

Besides if you think about without Zero Hour we wouldn't have The Long Halloween and instead have Year two.
