I treated myself to the 2023 BMW R18 100th anniversary edition and I’m blown away by the bike ! Having owned 2 Harley Davidson cruisers over the years the R18 brings an entirely new level of cruising enjoyment. While I also own a K1100RS this is my first boxer, and I could not be more impressed by the smoothness and power. Kudos BMW Motorad 👍
What a reveal! Thank you for your effort to produce such an old-school product with so much style! Retro models from cars and bikes are always quite difficult and it's really a challenge to do it in point, but with this one you totally nailed it. This bike was a heritage project from the first second and I can clearly see that everyone in this project wanted to go all out with it, and this is what it needs when you do something like that. I think all the money, time and nerves that your team put into it will definitely be rewarded. The R18 is simply beautiful and perfect. Thank you very much!

I may be the odd one out. Watched the whole series and really enjoyed it. The insight into the design and access to the whole team plus the after parts folks was great. Seeing it take shape across two continents added something good too. Its not a Harley nor an Indian - its kept close to its routes and the prototype and its stunning. Yes, sure - would have like to see more but photography and lighting gave enough of a tease for me to want to see it in the flesh, whenever the world returns to normal. And now to start thinking of the order. Thanks BMW - "es war tol!"
Nah, I enjoyed it too. In fact I have enjoyed the whole series. Hipsters, yeah - well whatever man! I don't judge. They are riders, so they are OK in my book. And I am sure we will in fact see much more of the bike. Which I happen to like. I can't buy one because I will never fit on it, the rider triangle is all wrong for me - But I like the bike. I was hoping that a tour model would be part of the group. Maybe later on down the road.

the soberb old black BMWs are back!! Beautiful concept, engine exposed in large block, tank with 2 white painted stripes. elongated shapes but I think that none of these motorcycles had the same impact as the first one that won a beauty course. Her escape was more compact and beautiful. Handlebars were more robust and detail of the front fork referred to the old bikes. Stately motorcycles, success! now it’s time for the eyes to get used to the new lines.
Nice job, BMW Motorrad, on this new bike and it does harken back to the earlier models. And in '75, when I was an American teen in Frankfurt, I saw a handful of old BMWs in the hands of Americans working over there and it was a big deal to them, a cool deal for them to be able to buy those old bikes economically and have them maintained by local German guys who were into old BMW motorrads. Of course, those bikes would be called classic or vintage today, and rightfully so, but back then, they were just cool old motorcycles. And for me, all these years later, it is a little surreal to see a new BMW look pretty much like an old BMW. Beautiful.
Thank you Robb! Great to hear that. 😊 We attach great importance to authenticity, pure emotion and typical BMW Motorrad DNA from our long history as we enter the cruiser segment.

I think the video was beautifully done. Well produced and some fantastic shots of the bike. Most reviews are/will be the same ol' helmet mounted GoPro shots with the rider rattling off brochure specs. You all did a fantastic job imo, and the individuals made it more "fun". 👍👍

Congratulations, BMW. You have created something really special. I am anxious to see more! @@bmwmotorrad Excellent to hear of the options. I currently ride a '14 Victory Vision. This bike is the comfort King, and it's been a dream to ride, but she's getting older. The R18 in touring trim could be what's next!

The obvious elefant in the room is how to get a relaxed seating position for a long highway ride. Where can a set of highway pegs go, because it's too upright for any length of time.
Phillip Smith I would argue cause I’ve never been a cruiser guy, an upright seating position is more comfortable over a long ride. The leaned back posture kills my low back and tailbone

Here is a bike reveal video where the bike is shown less than 5% of the video time. Sorry to say but advertisement tailored to the US market, which is probably the main target (harleys). No way this a German way of presenting a piece of engineering. Shame. Anyway, hope the bike is good.
You are right. I was curious, and for example BMW Germany (car division) or Mercedes Benz have a way nicer approach showing off their vehicles... Sure there are other things going on in their videos than just showing the car, but the percentage is probably inverted. 90% car, 10% other stuff.
I would get the base model and convert it as close as I could to the original concept bike (I understand that they had to loose the carb for emissions reasons and the bar end hinged levers etc) I'm amazed that they have been able to retain the exposed drive shaft. Loose the Muppets, lets see the bikes in detail, 30 secs on each bike would have good.
Now from what I understand, this is all just 1 model... there is also a more American style cruiser and a tourer to be revealed? very exciting! I certainly hope that the passenger seats aren't an optional extra...
I looked forward to the reveal, but sadly the first 8 minutes of this video is a complete waste of time. You finally get to see more of the bike starting at the 8 minute mark, but the entire video still looks too much like the majority of Harley commercials...more about the people and their biker costumes than about the bike. I will now go back and binge watch the COVID-19 music video parodies. At least they brighten up my day during Shelter-at-Home.
Nice looking ride, great to see that they put past tid bits in but in my opinion put out a new R 5 and I would go for it over the R18. Just my two cents worth
never mind the video, as a non-German dude living in Germany not too far from Berlin boys, I was thinking about a street bob but... Berlin Built and beautiful, you might got me :). the bobber version is dope!!! However... the sitting position got me worried...is it just a visual decoy ?
They lost my interest when I saw the red bike earlier in the video series, but wow, I’m back on board! Love the look! Thanks for doing it right. I wish the reverse levers were available though.
I think it is a cool looking bike. I have a GS that I have had for 6 years (last of the air cooled Rallye models) and I love the character of the boxer engine. I’m 6’3” and I do wonder what the riding position will be like. The R9T is tiny and just doesn’t work for me. I do wonder about the front of my legs brushing against the engine. Only one way to find out. I really want a ride! I have enjoyed this series. Are they a bunch of posers? Yes. Am I jealous that I didn’t get to travel the world with them? Yes. Keep doing your thing BMW Motorrad!
After the Harley reveal ads giving bikes to celebrities it was easier, more sophisticated. Makes me ponder widening my garage door to get those jugs through.
You can't blame BMW for trying to create more buzz and expand their market segment. BMW was traditionally a bike that appealed to older touring bike riders,....then they created the dual sport categort with the original R80GS,.....and in 2009 they rolled out the S1000RR. Both intended to expand market share. In recent years, virtually all brands have declining sales,......EXCEPT for BMW whose sales have been up year on year. Yes, this is a beautiful take on BMW's roots with modern engineering,......that said,......it is another effort to expand the appeal and saleability of there ever expanding product line up; I personally feel they will finally have a successful offering that will compete with other dominant big cruiser bike manufacturers. BTW, Allen/Alan who showed up a bit later with the door knock is the owner of "Revival" Cycles in Austin, TX who built the second show bike called the "Birdcage" to showcase the new BMW R18 engine. Video showing the build of that bike is here: ua-cam.com/video/zOb-FW-6V0U/v-deo.html&goal=0_47bab08116-0aaa63be9c-138473865&mc_cid=0aaa63be9c&mc_eid=5ce0245dc3&fbclid=IwAR2wiZ_oQJW3ZDM2i3gN8VJ0XY4X_Rhvhao754WtMDWy-6m7XWvHwEtN3Lk
Beautiful Motorcycle! I can not tell if someone who is tall, say 6'2" will be able to sit comfortably on this bike? Foot pads are right in front of the cylinder head, so not much room for adjustment, anybody know?
Happy to hear that you like it! The range of BMW Motorrad Original Accessories includes footboards and additional footrests, while the BMW Motorrad equipment programme has numerous options for adapting the R 18 to individual ergonomic requirements by means of various handlebars and seats.
Hi 😉 With both concepts - the Concept R 18 and the Concept R 18 /2 - we wanted to show the range of characters we are able to cover with the same engine and frame. We ask you to appreciate that we are unable to comment on potential additional R 18 variants at this time.
The Bike is cool. I still want to see a substantial front and rear fender kind of like my '53 R/51/3 had. The fenders that are on it dont look functional. It looks like it's there only for looks. Otherwise the Bike is a jewel in every way. Call me old school, but my 1953 had s special kind of Class about it that not only looked good but was functional also. I never was into apes on any bike, I like a bike that will do what it was designed to do and that's provide the rider with many pleasurable miles, regardless if it's a short trip or a long one. Rain or shine. A trip to the local grocery store or across the state to get into a change of weather. That's my idea of riding a motorcycle. Simplicity and fun. BMW knows how to do that. That is a monster engine on this bike. I doubt if my R/51 had 40 hp, but it was fun to ride every time I got on it! This one has way more than mine, but it should still be fun to ride. I would definitely like to take it for a spin and see what it's made of and maybe even take one home, but mine will have functional, stylish fenders on it. Not any wannabes.

Now from what I understand, this is all just 1 model... there is also a more American style cruiser and a tourer to be revealed? very exciting! I certainly hope that the passenger seats aren't an optional extra...
The seating position on these bikes looks like you're on the toilet
Vintage + Modern, Love it...waiting begins :-)
You don't have to wait! You can start configurating your own 😉:

@@bmwmotorrad I've already done that & submitted my pre-order. Waiting for delivery 😀
Beautifully executed. Nice sound. I likey. Priced right should do well.
Just like a press launch, only missing the powerpoint presentation.. Great looking books!! :)
The best bike of the century!!
Thank you for your feedback! Happy that you like it! 😀

Thank you for creating this absolute work of art, I have been expecting it for a lifetime !!😊👏👏👏👏🍾
Just my two cents worth
schaut geil aus aber die Sitzposition und der Preis der upgrades gehen ja gar nicht!
I like that floating seated R18
Best Motorrad in the World. BMW Korea, did you see the bike? Bring it to Korea.
never mind the video, as a non-German dude living in Germany not too far from Berlin boys, I was thinking about a street bob but...
I think operating the reverse levers would be awkward, not normal.
I'm so glad that the one with the Ape Hangers has Mag Wheels
still not sure about the exhausts .... but loving the general apperance of the bike. Already pondering how to set it up for long distance trips >
and wondering what SW is going to get setup for that
All about image, manufactured cool.
Thanks Derek for your feedback! You are welcome to take a test ride as soon as the bikes are at the dealers. 👍😉
What kamera do you use? Full professional direction or some portable? Please Tell me🙏🙏
Damn.. they really good actors
Wow, this entire piece completely missed the mark. Awkward to watch.
After the Harley reveal ads giving bikes to celebrities it was easier, more sophisticated. Makes me ponder widening my garage door to get those jugs through.
Was this filmed during the lockdown as the streets are all empty. Thanks for sharing much needed during the quarantine
No. Shot some time ago in Cape Town. Early Sunday mornings.
Great work BMW!!!
Need this in a full touring model with fixed faring and trunk. Looks great.
There was a leak in the German motorcycle newspaper "Motorrad" of exactly that ;)
Great to hear that you like it! 🙌😊
2020 - BMW is Harley, Harley is Tesla, and internet full of smartasses and haters.. I like the story - great video, great bike!
Cheesy film but great looking bike.
The ape hanger one gets me everytime
Impeccable Job BMW !!! ... and brilliant video as well I must say
Nice bike, but the last section of the exhaust is ridiculous. The only negative issue of the project. Congrats!!!
Thank you for your honest feedback!
Wow those bikes were gawjus really like them 😃🏍️💜 top 1 😀 north of England Uk
Was hoping that final production bike would have been more like the concept....Is that the final bike?
Beautiful Motorcycle! I can not tell if someone who is tall, say 6'2" will be able to sit comfortably on this bike? Foot pads are right in front of the cylinder head, so not much room for adjustment, anybody know?
Doubt it. It made for stubby legged cruiser riders that want to bar hop.
Happy to hear that you like it! The range of BMW Motorrad Original Accessories includes footboards and additional footrests, while the BMW Motorrad equipment programme has numerous options for adapting the R 18 to individual ergonomic requirements by means of various handlebars and seats.
Is the red one coming out too that was in teasers before? that one looked way better IMO
Hi 😉
With both concepts - the Concept R 18 and the Concept R 18 /2 - we wanted to show the range of characters we are able to cover with the same engine and frame. We ask you to appreciate that we are unable to comment on potential additional R 18 variants at this time.
I can't wait to see the first ever BMW cruiser 😍
Better travel back in time then, because this aint the first.
Never seen a R1200C?
M Akhtar Rizki R The very first BMW motorcycle in 1923 was a cruiser! Ha Ha!
No feet forward = no cruiser 😤
@@didierlevy4268 just put your feet on the cylinder heads lol
I'd heard that the HD image and ad consultants had jumped ship. Reckon so.
Hello David, thank you for your feedback and input. 👍
