It's not a bad idea to frequent garage sales, flea markets and especially conventions, if you know what you are looking for. I have completed lots of my figures, by digging through bins for just the right accessories, and I find this fun. You also get your choice. If a white accessory is too yellow, you can skip it, for a whiter one. And, maybe each piece might cost you a dollar a pop, it might be worth it in the long run.
I've been collecting vintage figures about 5 years now and I've got really good at using eBay. One of my favorite Joe's to look for is Zartan. I've bought a few that had his knee pads and those sold for way more than the figure. One guy sent 2 sets of knee pads with one I bought. That was a nice score
I've gotten just about all the JOES that give me nostalgia feels. The ones I'm starting to get into are the Sears rare sets (Dreadnok Assaults, Cobra MMS, etc) and Toys R Us Night Force rarities. I have a feeling these type of sets will retain the most monetary value in the long run.
True the common stuff is getting cheaper and the rare is getting rarer and more expensive. Seems the common stuff is actually more satisfying to acquire at first for most because that is what we had back in the day
It’s a little tricky yet rewarding. Worst part is buying that part you need to finish the piece off and a tab snaps off and into low earth orbit while you are trying to put in in place! A lot of mine have such defects it doesn’t stop me from enjoying them.
Great advice, thank you. Just picked up a whole bucket full of Joe stuff for super cheap, mainly 12s from the 90's. Small pile of weapons from the 3 3/4 years and a little Defense Courier briefcase with Top Secret Files and Coder messages inside the case, way cool!!! Gonna sell them and will probably do a bulk lot for Buy it Now.
Very informative video. I had almost all of the figures from a round 83-85 and a ton of vehicles. I made a bad decision of selling the whole collection….thinking I might not get married and have kids of my own. As it worked out, I’m married with two boys that love them so much so we have been slowly accumulating figures…..some in real good shape that are kinda expensive like 1985 Snake Eyes(one of my favorites) and some that aren’t worth much but because they are actively playing with them, we try to find nice figures but don’t want to overpay, just in case they break or something. I’ve mainly ordered from EBay but not a fan of some of the shipping prices and you can’t really find any deals. Starting to check out yard/garage sales hoping to get lucky.
That’s exactly how I matched all the weapons and accessories to each figure. It was tough but I finally did it. Took over a week and about 6 to 8 hours a day and working a full time 12 hour shift job!!!! 😂exhausted!
At one time I thought about reclaiming all my lost Gijoe collection, but realized the figures were going for 3 to 5 hundred dollar lots. Then Classified released. I realized I could get updated, larger versions for the same price. So, it may take a while, but I will eventually get all the figs I used to have, but out of Classified.
Hello, as always Great video and Great Content! As you said it- patience is the keyword regarding collecting Joe's. It's easier when you collect different toylines as your attention is divided and there is always something to chase, especially these days when there is an abundance of different properties are available on the market.
Yes it is easy to get caught up in the excitement and overspend but in the long run better deals show up days, weeks months down the road. Good point about focusing on other lines for a while
If you see someone has a figure priced really cheap go look and see what else they have. I sometimes save the seller's search so i know when they list something
Cool reference sites for the figures and cards/box art, yes. I hope there is a book produced to purchase at stores that includes all packaging, and figures/vehicles in one book.
I play with my gi joes. My daughter started playing with Barbie dolls and she wants me to play with her so I was like what the heck I'm gonna get myself a gi joe. Ken can suck it. Gi Joe is a real man.
Yeah whoops. I went overboard. I dropped about 1300 on GI Joe stuff from various online shops and have built a nice little stack of parts and almost have a complete near mint with cards 82 set of figures. A little bit too addicting
Hello, I have several 8" GI Joe fighting action figures with LOTS of accessories - how do I find a list of all the ones made between 1990s-early 2000s? It's impossible to find the ones I have, including one with a Silver Skull, red eyes, dark blue pants - any idea?
I'll message someone and ask them if they'll take an offer even if they have a bin price and no offers. More often than not they will take an offer. I usually look to see if they have a lot of listings. The more they have the more likely they'll take less
Cheers mate great content as always. Try collecting these from NZ, ebay shipping is horrendous. I was liking the anniversary figures, but I found the joints get to lose to quickly. Nothing beats the sturdiness of the O-Ring figure. Hey Hanger, do you think that O-Ring figures will ever become freely re-released again?
My guess is no because they made them Pulse exclusives and charge $22per figure in a 2 pack. They will not sell well through that process and will deter them from a widespread release. Just bad decisions all around
Very true that is becoming more of an issue. Looking back a decade ago I picked up a few collections and almost no broken figures back then but today I even broke a figure with little effort
Collecting vintage joes is so aggravating if you're trying to find ones in good condition. Ebay people will be shady as hell hiding defects like cracked elbows, paint issues, rusty screws, etc.
I only collect mint carded figures and boxed vehicles and the mint loose stuff. I’ve passed on so many opportunities just because of slight damage or veining over 30 years that i’ll never see again, and i regret it today! If you find it and it’s rare, the price is right then do it!
you wouldn't believe how many times I've told myself "nah, I'll collect the Super 7 Ultimates instead." You WOULD believe how unrealistic that goal is starting to seem though, I bet. Also these things aren't THAT expensive. Get the hard part out of the way first, ie get the Flagg, Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes first, and everything else will seem effortless.
That is by far my favorite vehicle and I actually got one in bad shape from a friend but he had the box so have to restore that bad boy. I occasionally find a part here and there for cheap to add to it
Just looking on Ebay there are a lot of deals my advice is to buy one that is about 80% there with fans and shrouds. After that there are tons of parts lots to fill out the rest over time
Here is a good one www.ebay.com/itm/134322577261?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180105095853%26meid%3D87dc37ec52fd47fcaed3097ef6bab33d%26pid%3D100903%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D20%26sd%3D403296081560%26itm%3D134322577261%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2510209%26brand%3DHasbro&_trksid=p2510209.c100903.m5276

I am really liking your videos about vintage. Thank you!
Watching your intro I thought how sweet a stars cream or Megatron lamda crossover figure would be

Ikr, I just had to strap Blowtorch’s mask on to break the strap. 🤦♂️😂

Great video mate awesome tips too
Pretty spot on!
I buy junk lots and work my way to completing the line, several vehicles need to be purchased straight up, but the chase is part of the fun.
That’s exactly how I matched all the weapons and accessories to each figure. It was tough but I finally did it. Took over a week and about 6 to 8 hours a day and working a full time 12 hour shift job!!!! 😂exhausted!

What is “classified”
I have the 1982 Scarlett it's just missing the crossbow and the figure card.

Yep a reference book would be great for those who may not want to buy all the package but want to remember how it looked back in the day
Sometimes lucky Sometimes it helps keep a store in business,
I play with my gi joes. My daughter started playing with Barbie dolls and she wants me to play with her so I was like what the heck I'm gonna get myself a gi joe. Ken can suck it. Gi Joe is a real man.
Got em ALL but a handful
Yeah whoops. I went overboard. I dropped about 1300 on GI Joe stuff from various online shops and have built a nice little stack of parts and almost have a complete near mint with cards 82 set of figures. A little bit too addicting
Transformers can run way higher. However. Their are some Joe items that are a tough catch.

I spy Miles Mayhem's helmet!

Did you sell off your collection or do you have another one?
I'm just wondering how many people were able to complete the G.I. Joe line since the '80s
Good morning everyone
Happy Retro Wednesday
Another tip is to look for cracked elbows and broken crotch pieces which are very common.
Very true that is becoming more of an issue. Looking back a decade ago I picked up a few collections and almost no broken figures back then but today I even broke a figure with little effort
The Cobra Dome what?!!
The originals were from the sixties and seventies we're a lot bigger had removable clothes scars and Kung Fu grip😂

I would recommend to view the photos very closely before you decide.

The appeal for modern is lower price, better sculpts and easier to acquire. Seems many times that script has flipped and Vintage can be easier to get
I hate auctions. Especially when they come with a buy now price that is just ridiculous
Tip on those type of auctions just place a starting bid at the starting bid to erase that buy it now option
How do you afford the carbon tax for all this plastic?
Always make an offer. You're foolish if you don't.
If you have a extra Whale Hovercraft I’ll buy it off you. Too much on eBay complete
That is by far my favorite vehicle and I actually got one in bad shape from a friend but he had the box so have to restore that bad boy. I occasionally find a part here and there for cheap to add to it
