He really did sound a lot like Donny Osmond.
Original SINGING voice...Donny Osmond only did Shang's singing voice, while B.D. Wong was Shang's speaking voice. Just like how Ming-Na Wen voiced Mulan but another woman (Lea Salonga?) was Mulan's singing voice.

I'm honestly happy that Mushu and the Bug aren't in the live action movie and that its supposed to be more in line with the original book and with the animated story being mixed in.
Archangel, I would, without a doubt 113% agree with this, IF. What we were shown in the trailers actually matched the said source material then. And I feel the character of Mulan has been butchered. The once Charismatic, fun yet understandabley learns through out the movie how to fight like a soldier. Not crazy flips that knock out Spears and snake sorcerers. (Idk of those are in the original source material).

I was successful in introducing the animated version to my little niece before the "live action" monstrosity comes out. She has good taste. While her mother offers her the "live action" Beauty and the Beast, she asks for the Disney Reneissance one.

Except I've read actual Mulan and a hawk witch is nowhere to be seen in the poem 😑 If there is a hawk that turns into a hot chick, they could actually add a proud Chinese symbol - the red dragon - as a spirit Guardian. It is the symbol of strength, success, glory in China, and Mulan who seeks to bring honour to her family, would surely benefit from such a spirit by her side. Symbolically, it would portray that she truly is honourable enough to have such a royal guardian beside, while a hawk witch is an unnecessary add-on. @@kingkylie9655 True. I would've loved to see Mushu in an epic dragon style in the movie, tbh. Like, they did make certain comic characters serious in Live Actions (Belle's and Jasmine's fathers, for example), so they could've done the same with Mushu. Even change his name if they wanted, like they did Li Shang, Shang Yu, Huns, and basically everyone. But seeing that red dragon and some of his quotes with the same meaning yet serious flavour, we'd know it was Mushu of old days, more badass ^^

@@TamunaTsertsvadze it would have been beyond awesome, a jaw dropping scene, if in near the end fight mulan were fighting a supernatural group of beings beside shang yu, and little mushu goes out of her clothes and goes full mighty dragon like this, with something like " this time for sure, mulan, i wont let you down" (referring to fa-den disaster ), and leaves mulan to fight shang yu uninterrupted
