    2:01:43 that's The Mill.
I'm not entirely on board with Matt's point here. It's less about trusting compilers, and more about putting the power in the hand of the developer - whether that's someone writing a compiler, a language runtime, or hand cobbling assembler. It sure would be nice to have better tools for indirect branches in ia64, but it's hard to argue with advance and speculative loads, and being able to branch on whether they are successful. No spectres here.

Matt talking about typing in code from magazines... I used to avidly read those magazines in the school library.... I couldn't afford to have a computer, so I would read the code an "run it in my head" which taught me so much.... all the machines had huge differences and when I finally got my hands on those machines, I was already half way to being able to program them.... started me off on my road to wanting to "know everything"... 20 high level languages and 7 assembly languages later... I'm still learning now.

When the wizard of oz says to you "do not look behind the curtain" how do you not IMMEDIATELY look behind the curtain.

When we arguing which was best... the ST or the Amiga.... who would have thought that it was the Archimedes that was really, actually defining the future?
