use a smaller hook or 1/2 the size of the yarn she uses and a size smaller hook till you have the right size I used a 2 wt yarn and a F hook for appliques on my mittens turned out awesome!
If you skip to 8:18 of this video ua-cam.com/video/MzRad3fFBIs/v-deo.html I explain it then! All it is, is pinning the pieces and gluing the back to help stiffen them up and stop them curling! It helps them hold their shape! Hope that helps!
