I have a problem - I prefer building model railways to playing trains

- I'm one of those people who has usually got a few things on the go at once, whether that's because various things need doing, to stop myself losing motivation on a repetitive task, spotting things that 'need' doing straight away or just because I fancy it.
I've done a fair bit since my last video (in which we looked at my layout), almost none of it for the layout. Why is that, and why am I always sat at the workbench rather than playing trains?
I try to explain in this video. Try being the operative word. - Навчання та стиль
Variety is the spice of life mate. a bit of this, a bit of that, and great fun. Great interesting Vid.
Thanks Andy, I know you are afflicted with the same condition; serial layout building 😀
@@flawedfinescale8454 I am trying to control myself now, currently building something similar to Seven Mills Sidings but in OO. BUT just ordered a book on the Somerset and Dorset. WATCH THIS SPACE. Hahaha. All the best mate.
Sometimes its the journey not the destination is the part you like most.
Absolutely that. To me, I wouldn’t get any enjoyment from buying everything completed, I get much more pleasure doing stuff myself. I do buy RTR locos (although not many) but enjoy ‘improving’ them; the new Hornby Black Five may be fantastic but I am much happier with my older ones that I have hacked around than I would be with the new one (plus, the gap between loco and tender on them is ridiculous and probably a lot more complex to narrow than it was on my older ones).
@flawedfinescale8454 iv scratch built a shed and signal box both here in dublin and have irish locomotives and rolling stock none of it cheap and iv only an oval of track on the dinner table.iv spent over a grand in tools and crafting materials and still no idea what layout I want.perfectly happy not running trains but making stuff.
@flawedfinescale8454 your doing a fantastic job .keep it up
Thanks mate
Sounds exactly like I am, I've always enjoyed ether working on the real thing ( worked for BR back in the 1980s and also been involved with heritage railways ) and have built small layouts the loop and end to end ones but then got bored, think I enjoy more the weathering and detailing then building full layouts , am actually doing a small test track shelf style one and based on a station on the old Brighton Kemp town branch line, as I belong to a club ,I take any locos or stock and run it on one of the club layouts.
One of the ways I keep myself busy and interested is building wagon kits; I have far more than I ever need and each one takes many hours to finish, some are available RTR but I invariably plump for the kit version.
Perfect example of far too many is 12t vans; I have (currently) about 30; The Mill needs about four, Sandside the same, but I built a couple more recently (a Parkside and a Red Panda Shocvan - former is available from Bachmann and neither are suitable for either layout).
You’re lucky that you can run your stock on a club layout. Of the two groups I am involved with, one is P4 specific and the other OO so my EM stock is as practical as a raincoat made of toilet paper 😀
@flawedfinescale8454 I should get in to some kit making again ,a guy at my club is building 2 nice 0 gadge 4 wheel coaches .
I can remember you getting that black 5. It was at expo when Derick and Allen was running it. We was doing the demo me weathering and you with the wagons. It was years ago lol
I’m going to York with my layout. Hope to see you there buddy
You may be right, but it was definitely OO when I got it, and bog standard too. Maybe the wheels were swapped over with Timara when she sold off a load of her locos; she knew they would sell better as OO.
Fingers crossed I’ll make York and finally catch up with you 👍
Two videos within a month - you're setting a dangerous precident!
I know. I’ve let you all down, let myself down, let everyone down 😀
Wouldn't call that a problem Jason, more the norm! Besides if you want to run something interesting you have to build it first!
Yeah, definitely not a problem mate, I was kind of hamming it up a bit 😀
I emphatically disagree.
Making 25s rap is THE superior form of railway modelling
If I had other sound locos, I would recreate Wu Tang Clan; Ol’ Dirty Ba***rd would be a Deltic
